One question. Are you able to choose playing either Kingdomino or Queendomino with 6 players if you combine the two games' tiles, or can you only play Queendomino if you're using more tiles than those that come with one of them (more than 48 tiles)? I guess the 8 player team game, as well as 4 player 7x7 is always going to be Queendomino. I'm not sure how 3 player 7x7 would be in terms of those choices.
Probably the cities terrain is only present on the Queendomino tiles from #25 to #48, so you can use the #1 to #24 tiles to play either 5x5 game with 6 and either 7x7 game with 3 players only. It would be nice to be able to choose which game you play with more tiles, instead of being restricted to playing Queendomino with more than 48 tiles.
What I've seen of the insert doesn't make me being certain that you can store both entire games in the Queendomino box with that insert inside. Without it it's a piece of cake, allthough it'll become a mess. If you have to take the insert out to do this, then I guess The Broken Token has a new project to work on.

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking.
I think you're saying, can you play Kingdomino rules with 5p or 6p now? Not with Queendomino tiles, because of the many red spaces. You could easily do that with two sets of Kingdomino, however.
Well, something like that, Derek. There basically are more tiles if you combine both games. The preview videos all make clear that you can play a 5x5 game with up to 6 players. But can you play basic 5x5 Kingdomin with up to 6 players, or is 5x5 Queendomino with up to 6 players the only option?

Kind of a bummer that there wasn't the foresight to create an insert for the new game that accommodates the old one. Our family loves the simplicity of kingdomino, but it would be cool for them to create a mini-expansion so that all 4 players could do the 7x7 grid without needing to buy Queendomino. Do you think we'll see something like that?
I think most people keep the boxes so I'd say them making a new insert to fit both isn't likely. Not sure if they'd create an expansion for Kingdomino itself to play 7x7 with 3-4 people. Maybe ask them on the Blue Orange website?

Earlier this week, a Blue Orange representative joined a FLGS Tabletop night which allowed us to demo Queendomino (as well as Photosynthesis, et al). We played the game with 6 players combining QueenD with KingD, and I literally had goosebumps almost the entire game. I had immense hype going in and I pre-ordered the game going out.
I would also add to your analysis is that if you enjoyed the artwork of Kingdomino, then you'll definitely enjoy Queendomino's. As I found out that night, the box art actually connects if you place KingD (left) and QueenD (right) side by side. If QueenD becomes as successful as KingD, then here's hoping that a giant version of QueenD will be released. :)

This is a must buy or me because Kingdomino is a great little warmup game for non gamers. I've found they catch onto it really quickly given the domino mechanic. The new mechanics takes it to the next level for those gamers. Thanks Dan.

Dan, great video. When you combine the two games for larger player counts, is it easy to separate your tiles back into the specific boxes so you'll have the proper mix of tiles in each? Is there maybe a marking to help differentiate the tiles? Thanks!
Thanks! Yes the back of the tiles look completely different so they are easy to separate!
OK, this kind of answered my question - should I get one or the other by "get both" :) But that's also an answer as well, I didn't know that they can be combined and that having one over another makes sense (thought queen was just sort-of 2nd edition to king). So I'll get both but probably would buy a few copies of King as gifts.
Now, did you play the expansion for Kingdomino and how doest it fit in both games combo?
I know that the boxes are designed to form a continuous image if put side by side (for all 3 including expansion)...
I ended up fitting everything including the expansion in just the queendomino box but it's tight!
@@TheGameBoyGeeks what I meant was more like how they fit in the sense of gameplay, specifically, what the expansion (for kingdomino) does, and how does it change the gameplay when combined with queendomino? I'm probably getting all just in case, so many good reviews and the fact that (depending on combo) it is both a gateway game but can be made more challenging, and also a great variation in number of players.

I've not played either game, but can I assume you could play King rules with the Queen set? Ie. Still have that super simple gateway game, but have the option to add that touch of complexity after a few plays.
Brad Round Hi Brad. I don't think that would work as it would make the red town Dominos useless without the buildings which are almost half of them.

What about combining 2 copies of Queendomino? Is it possible?
Barbara Van Overbeke I don't think this would be a good idea because you'd either have too many red town Dominos, or you'd need two building tracks. Either of which would throw off the balanced game play.
