We all have to find what is right for us. It's nice that high mileage runners, low mileage runners, and everything in between can all be part of a supportive online community.

Last year I ran 4180 miles. Agree with you 100%. The culmination of that effort was a 2:44 marathon aged 48. Anyone telling you running long every single day and throwing some harder efforts occasionally is not the proper way to achieve your goals has never put in the effort.

      Beast!

    • @Not_So_Common_Sense
      @Not_So_Common_Sense Місяць тому +11

@@khungreen9773 Nah-just an average Joe with the will to run 75-90 minutes every day. No need for fancy training programs or complicated workouts. Just showing up every day, doing 2-3 workouts per month and running 2+ hours every Sunday did the trick for me too. Could I improve even more by following a personalized structured plan? Probably, but that would take away the joy of running by feel.
      Happy new year everybody!

Speed is the key to injury, presuming you don't run 'badly'. People don't get injured walking, they get injured running faster than they are ready for.

Fellow hobby jogger checking in! Just finished my last run of the year. I totaled 960 miles this year, completed my first marathon in NYC in November, and finally joined a run club! Aiming to break 1,000 next year and do another marathon in the fall. Keep grinding, folks! Enjoy the process

Started running 4 months ago, ramped up way to fast and ended up in a boot. Ramped up again, and again was out for more than a week. Going slow and consistant now, pace has improved greatly since I started. Excited to train for my first Marathon next year. Not only that but building my foundation for my business and a successful life. Your positivity through the grind, and community helps alot. What’s become abundantly clear is that unlike most others in the space, you’re not just a shoetuber or a running influencer. You're right about priorities and, of course, there's an opportunity cost to everything. Your friends on Wall Street have decided to prioritize their career and making money at the expense of something else.
I made a career change and chose nursing partly because I didn't want nannies and grandparents raising my kids. The side effect is that I have been able to put more time into cycling, running, or other exercise on those four days a week that I don't work. This also recharges me, emotionally.
I try to think, at the end of my life, what am I going to regret not doing?

I mention multiple times throughout this video the importance of setting individual goals and not doing something just because others are doing it. I made sure to emphasize the importance of ramping up mileage slowly and the thumbnail literally has a graph that shows how I took 5 years of steadily increasing my my mileage to reach this level. I ended the video with a 5 minute section addressing the topic of high mileage and injuries. And to your point on my family life - do you want me to film every morning breakfast I have with my kids? The hundreds of bedtime stories I read this year? Every poopy diaper I changed? All of the groceries and clothes I provided with the income I made? Every lesson I taught them? Subbed. Thx for the motivational video & shoe reviews. I'll buy at least 1 pair today, based on your suggestions. I'll be 68 in April, have run 36 years & have completed races from beer mile to full Ironman. Vegetarian 30 years & vegan 5. Right knee is shot, but I'm still running. Doc has 4 contingency plans to fix it & I'm on plan 1, cortisone shots. I'll get my 2nd one Friday. Minimal relief, but I don't want to get to plan 4, which is a partial knee replacement, so I'm taking my time letting the others work. I don't have notifications turned on, but I'll check back for a reply, if any.

Thanks! And sorry to hear about the injury but inspiring that you're still getting after it 🙌🏽 for ultimate cushioning and comfort, I would recommend the hoka bondi 9 or Asics gel nimbus 27. The bondi is firmer and more structured while the nimbus has more of a soft feel to it. Both will feel comfortable and supportive

Ran just under 1k this year, wasn't milage that caused an injury that's lasted nine months, was the speed sessions that caused it.
I'd imagine sprinters have a higher tendancy towards a severe injury than endurance runners, ans it's the severe injury you really want to avoid.
Need to start some squats stuff to even out your hamstring to quad ratio and take some pressure off that lower back.
    Have another great year.

Final episode of the year was not shoes but milage. It's bigger stories for him to be called as a shoe-tuber.
It's about message for better life from milage ambassador. I'm about to become a milage evangelist.

i agree with all you said.......
what i learned over the years
We need to treat ourselves with loving care, this includes our running, as we have only one body to destroy
Memories of races and pr times fade away like snowflakes in the sun, family runs on a Saturady stay in our hearts like diamonds in a treasure box.
The chariot is our body, the five horses our senses, the bridle is our mind, the passenger is our soul........but we are the charioteer, who guides the chariot by feel to care well for our soul. We never ever should reduce ourselves to servants of a gps watch, or even worse to a talking or writing gps watch

Mileage. Only number goal I set was run sub 3 hours. Crushed that back in March. The rest of the year was just be better consistently. Next year will be the same. Be better. Maybe sprinkle in the new Boston qualifier goal of sub 2:55 lol.
