- In this video you'll see a common style of impeller pump stripped down and rebuilt with a new kit. These style of pumps can vary but this should give a basic example. This pump is directly driven from the engine.

Thanks for the video. How did you determine the correct distance to press the parts on the shaft?
The shaft has a ledge that dictates positioning. Once the bearings are against this ledge / shoulder the rest makes sense.

Thats an interesting video and a good explanation of how a lip seal works. Did you pre lube that lip seal as well or doesn’t it need it? Also on the pre lube is there no advantage to putting some around the inside of the pump housing before fitting the impeller? Does the pre lube help prime the pump as well as initially lubricating it, and if you don’t have the silicone pre lube what else can you use?
Silicone grease is great for pre lubing the impeller and seals in this application.
Hi just to clear something up are you saying that the seals should have the grove facing the water and the other side again facing the oil side? so looking from the top of the pump the seals are back to back with the flats of the seal
There are two seals. the lip should face each respected fluid. Lip seals usually have a spring inside to assist the lip, think of this as the side to face the fluid you wish to manage. I hope that makes sense. You end up with each seal facing each other. Just be sure the shaft isn't worn such as a groove has developed as this will reduce the seals efficacy and potentially stop the impeller generating vacuum and hence water flow.

What do you call that black vertical press thing? Is it required in order to remove and reinstall the shaft?
That is a hydraulic puller, the bearing is pressed into the brass cast body. To remove it you need to press it in order to not damage the bearing.
Taking a press into the field is unrealistic so I have the hydraulic puller and I make that into a mini press.

Thank you for taking the TIME to explain the hydrodynamics of the lip seal and how that comes into play with how the lip seal actually seals against water intrusion. You taught me something valuable today that I will not forget. In the process you took me beyond just "remembering" how it went together and trying to put it back in the same way, to a much better place where now I UNDERSTAND how the seal works and it makes PERFECT sense. Such things are obvious to you, but were not to me. Thank you for that valuable piece of education. If I may make a respectful suggestion; please turn down (or eliminate) the music playing in the background of your video. The music gets in the way of hearing your running commentary which is VALUABLE. Honestly, the repetitive and monotonous background music (only my opinion) takes away from the quality of your excellent video.

Also it's worth checking Xylem's website as they are the manufacturer of Jabscos pumps.
But do bare in mind the work to make a shaft like that. The cost is a reflection of that

No but was noted. The engine hadn't had a service at this stage to a known date as no service history was offered.
