Her record label and the people around her didn't want her to sing this song because they though her singing about prostitution would hurt her career. It became one of her most popular songs and one of the best country songs of all time. She trusted her own instincts and has been rocking it ever since.
I saw Reba 2 yrs ago. She did this song. Came out in a black dress part way through the song. she pulled on the strap & the dress turned into a red evening grown. It was amazing she is an entertainer. 🔥
You really want to watch the video with this song. Not only is Reba known for her videos be almost mini movies but the video of this one end with an uplifting seen
I sing this song religiously!!! I loved it as a kid! I say it to someone at least once every 2 days. "HERE'S YOUR ONE CHANCE FANCY DON'T LET ME DOWN!!!" It my peep talk at this point...
Everytime I hear Reba on the radio it takes me back to 1983 listening to my mom sing along as I laid down in the front seat going home after daycare. I hope you also find some Alabama. They are great
Singer, actress (was in tremors 1). I absolutely love this woman. She is just like Dolly, the way they sound is so authentic, so humble down to earth people. Love her.
Bobbie Gentry wrote this and is freaking genius of a song writer and entertainer. You need to also check Bobbie live version as well as her Ode To Billy Joe. Reba us a huge fan of Bobbie's and always loved Fancy so recorded and always closes her concerts with it.
In HS this was one of the songs us girls would cruise the backroads singing as loud and dramatic as possible 😂 Oh Lordy Day we had fun. Also being an Okie girl along with Reba we are definitely proud that sweet southern twang represents Oklahoma. She never lost that accent even while in Hollyweird 😉
Great song reaction, but you really did yourself a disservice not watching the official video for Fancy. Reba is known for her mini movie videos. Ill link the official Fancy vido to this thread. If you liked this one, you would really enjoy her video for The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia....once again, for this one you have to watch the official music video. Enjoy...thanks again for reacting to Reba. ua-cam.com/video/zplc4Ienkws/v-deo.html
Honestly, I think Reba's music videos are the one videos you could skip. While she put a lot of money into them, she always screwed them up by ruining the pacing of the music/song, having narration speaking too loudly over the music, and so on.
@@unclebounce1495 While you are right that there's a certain element of that, the plain fact is that the emotions come far more into play when you see the Fancy music video. You can see the guilt, pain, and sadness in the mother's gaze as she turned her own daughter out to be the sex toy of a rich man in town. And when the video ends and you see that the childhood home shack is being turned into a shelter for runaways fits the theme of how even the simplest and seemingly harshest of circumstances can result in hope for the future.
Full agreement. She absolutely lowered the full reaction because of not seeing the video on this one. Fancy was one of Reba's best videos - fitting for one of her best songs. you can feel the guilt, pain, regret, and shame in the mother. You can see the girl's fear and horror about what she is being sent to as she struggles not to go; and then her anger at her mother for doing this to her when she tears off the locket. Then the tearful goodbye hug that is the last time she sees her mother... I really hope the TNT hosts go back and watches the official video in a second reaction - preferably with her husband along with Tasha so that at least one person will get the full impact. I also think it was quite tragic that she never picked this song for her "Top 10 Scandalous Country Music Videos". Very few things are quite as scandalous as a below poverty level poor single mother turning her own daughter into a sex worker just to survive, and then that person listing her conquests and the money, fame, and properties it gave her.
You need to watch Reba's videos, she was one of the first to make videos like little mini movies. Others do it now but I think she started it. I've seen her in concert and she was great.
The Statler Brothers did a song "Bed of Roses" that is also about seeing the good in someone others are quick to judge. Style is different, but the story makes me think of their song as well.
If you want to know the true soul and character of the South you can read any one of the useless books written about us or you can listen to this ONE song by Reba. That is all you need, period!
You should definitely check out the video to this song or one of Reba's great live performances of it where she has a costume reveal. This was never a number one song but it is a fan favorite that she closes almost every concert with. I would definitely recommend watching the video at least 🙂
I see Reba has pulled you in also. I have been listening & enjoying her music since I was 16 & I am 51 now. Ever since her first song on CMT. My granny got me hooked on her. lol
My all time favorite country song performed by my favorite country artist I love all music, little country, but THIS ONE ❤❤❤ Thank you for your reaction
I agree with some of the others. This is a great version of the song snd I love Reba but please check out the original by Bobby Gentry and also her masterpiece Ode to Billy Joe. You will not be disappointed.
You really need to see the video to that song. I loved your reference to One life to live. That was my favorite soap. Ok. Keep up the good work. Have a nice day.
This is a Bobbie Gentry song, I like the way she dose the song too. You have to review some of her songs she a great story teller. Ole to billy joe is in the top 100 songs of all times.
Reba is new queen of country and it used to be Dolly P I’m just waiting to see who Reva is going to past the crown to I think it should be Jennifer N from Sugarland because of her voice is so powerful and she don’t even have to try hard,it just comes natural to her But that is just my opinion
This song can be viewed in so many different levels, and it's really pointing the finger at all of us. We are quick to judge the mom who turned her daughter out and the woman who lives off selling her body. But we need to think about the society we live in that lead to it. From the father who ran off to the community that will let a sick woman's baby starve. This song was actually written in the 60s and was referring to an earlier era before a young woman had any options that didn't involve her tying herself to a man in one way or another. This was also an era when single mothers and "white trash" (their term, not mine) were relegated to living outside of society, so she never would have found a decent job or husband.

Hey, Tasha, Reba gives more hope to Fancy's story in her video for this: ua-cam.com/video/zplc4Ienkws/v-deo.html ... At the very end, there's a sign that declares her mama's land as the future site for Fancy Rae Baker Home for Runaways.

Reba is a very strong woman. It had to be so hard to come back after she lost her entire band in a plane crash...

Country is the best genre of music there is
The Statler Brothers did a song "Bed of Roses" that is also about seeing the good in someone others are quick to judge. Style is different, but the story makes me think of their song as well.
also Reba and Linda Harris do a duet that is really good. "Does he love you" on the official version. really good.
Learn to two step it is a wonderful experience.
She is a amazing story teller
She didn't write this song
