THESE GRADES MADE NO SENSE.. So I tried again! 20 Card PSA Return

  • A few months ago I received my worst PSA order to date. Nearly every card was 1-2 lower than what I predicted. Like a completely crazy person, I decided to hand over my money to try again, because I was CONFIDENT I had gotten screwed on this particular submission. The return in today's video includes two cards from that original order, and also 18 others (including a few snapouts from other grading companies). I will likely re-try on some of the others from the original order after seeing these results.
    I learned a lot by trying this out, and I hope you do as well. Learn from my experience before attempting it yourself :)!

    I used to only use PSA and wouldn't use anyone else. They have gotten so bad with grading I used SGC and I loved it and now will not use anyone else. Better grading, better pricing, better customer service, amazing turn around time, and the slabs look great being black. Really makes the cards look nice! I would recommend SGC to everyone!

      Same. PSA has been so hit or miss for me right now, and when they miss it's bad. Honestly I am not resubmitting back to PSA because I don't trust them. I been using SGC and have had great experiences so far, and will continue to use them. Just great all around and no stupid up charges and auto charges, what's not to like. Also I think for harder to find (numbered/colored) prices are on par with PSA, everything else is not. I'm not complaining I would buy a SGC 10 over a PSA 10 if someone were charging more than double for it.

    What other company could
    provide purposeful inaccuracy and terrible customer service and somehow get direct repeat business? Amazing the hobby not only supports these crooks but places a premium on their ugly labels and meaningless grades. At least GMA gives 10s when they misgrade a card.

    No one holds PSA accountable for their inconsistent grades, so this is why we have to suffer on paying for these to be graded correctly several times. I think until people start speaking out, this will continue to happen. If you want your cards to be graded correctly the first time and consistent, SGC is the way to go(and no I m not a SGC fanboy). Its just the truth.

  • @ricecakejohnson

    Been saying this for awhile, there is a dart board they use at PSA, and which ever number the dart lands, its the grade you get for your card(s). Problem is PSA knows they are the top dog in the industry, and they dont really give a F on what everyone thinks because people will continue to come back to PSA to pay double or triple to get the correct grade. 🤦‍♂🤦‍♂😢😢

    I think the PSA lunacy comes down to ineffective quality control. I’m pretty firm on the belief that most if not all of their “QC” related steps are completely made up and something to hide behind for their piss turnaround time. Thank you for shedding light on how bad they are at grading on any given day.

    Grading is a scam, IMO. Videos like this prove the point. Also why do they upcharge for cards that grade high? Value is for insurance purposes only, it is cardboard not gold bars. True value of any card is only what someone is willing to pay you for it, you cannot eat cards or defend your family with them. Junk slab era folks. Take a moment and ask....why are we paying and waiting to get a plastic case with nomenclature that WE had to enter on it. Seriously it is a total joke. Great video!!

    • @paulwalker4772
      @paulwalker4772 7 місяців тому

      @@soxlife6782 I understand that now, but I still wonder if they make any coin on that since they decide what the card is now worth with its unexpectedly high grade. Seems like too much discretion and power with no rebuttal ability. What if you didn't care to increase the insurance, too bad they don't give you an option, even though it is your property? Non transparent operating practices that are applied without oversight or agreement breeds dishonesty IMO. We dealers/collectors deserve better transparency. Thanks for squaring me away. Would love to see the data on what percentage of cards are lost during return shipping, my guess is way way under 1%.... And if card grades lower than expected do they chime you and say hey good news less return shipping? Do they?

      @@paulwalker4772 i think your tinfoil hat is on or something. With the amount of cards they see and process mistakes are bound to happen. A few youtube videos is a miniscule fraction. I dont like PSA anymore then other people do but I dont think they are out to screw anyone. The card he got upcharged on makes sense, he said he removed the film they were grading the card as aw hole based on the film being on it so it got the low grade. The film was removed and he was given a 10. If i had to guess he valued the card based on it getting the low grade from his first submission. He essentially resubmitted a different card. What service level did he chose? What turn around time did he pay for? These are all things that factor into pricing, and my guess for the brady he thought it wouldnt grade a 10 so he paid for the 75 dollar level but then it did get a 10 and the cards value went over the 1500 dollar limit for the 75 buck level.

    Got into the hobby not to long ago but really scared to grade anything. I see so many videos on the inconsistency of most of these grading companies and $20 minimum a card just seems nuts to me. Idk how it fully works but it would seems nuts to me to not have any internal review at companies like PSA for someone else to say, "Wait hold up that's not a 5, thats an 8." If you're paying that much per card, it should be included.

    • @carlsoncards
      @carlsoncards  7 місяців тому

      One option is to collect raw! Nothing wrong with it at all. Much more budget friendly. If you start stepping up to some larger $ amount cards, you could start considering grading to protect them for the long haul. I have many friends who don’t grade anything and obviously love their collections.
      Part of the reason I like mine slabbed is for authenticity because some of the niche sets I collect (like 1999 finest shown in this video) can have faked/backdoor copies, but you don’t have to worry about that for most sets. - Thanks for checking out the video, and hope you find a fun niche you enjoy in the hobby!

I've used BGS exclusively from 2012-2021- and find them way more consistent and accurate , down to the sub grade level even. Now, i've given in; and started crossing with PSA, with several upgrades. It's crazy how much less they sell now, and how irrelevant in ultra modern they are.

    can you go over your process when it comes to peeling? peeling cards that are ~25+ years old can be quite risky. As for the PSA 5's, the previous grader probably saw something they thought to be a wrinkle. Heck, the wrinkle may still be there, and the second grader missed it.
    i really dont like how wildly different Topps did the NFL Chrome numbering vs their MLB Chrome numbering. Black Refractors in NFL tend to be /299 where MLB is /100
    ive recently started collecting a NFL retired player, and learning the different numbering is annoying haha

    • @carlsoncards

      So 99 Finest is actually the only set I’ve ever done it with that I’m aware of. I haven’t had issues on it in terms of damaging the cards, but I’m sure other sets could be different. I actually thought the same thing about the wrinkle but looked EVERYWHERE and there just was nothing. That’s why it led to me thinking perhaps it was due to the edges for some reason. I think 7/8 was much more accurate.
      Completely agree on the black numbering! That is specifically why I don’t collect them, the inconsistencies drive me nuts. They do look great in a lot of sets though to be fair.

    Just a conspiracy theory at this point. But what if PSA gives out unworthy grades for excellent condition cards just so people will crack the cases and resubmit them . I think it's a marketing strategy for PSA to make more money with the already absurd Upgrade charges. Any thoughts???

    Do you submit with card savers? That's my biggest hangup with submitting to psa, I'm terrible at putting cards in card savers

      @@carlsoncardsI just recently submitted a card to psa, my first ever. I thought the card saver was pretty tight and might damage the card. I wrapped the card in wax paper prior to sliding it into the saver… could I have damaged the card?

    I don't know why you all pay premium and insist grading with PSA Knowing there trash. RE - Grading their own cards and not knowing and the inconsistencies is just terrible for all collectors, no wonder people are exiting the hobby

    Wish they would note on why they gave the grade they did. Getting back a card that looked good, maybe an 8 at worst and was graded a 5. Will consider a crack and resub
