I watch a lot of chateau vloggers, but as a single woman (5yrs now), you are living my dream. I so admire your bravery and decision to buy a property in France and bringing this beautiful property back to life. It's going to be amazing!! I have the financial means to do what you have done, but fear keeps me from taking the plunge. Omg, watching your videos I just want to pick up a broom, window cleaner, paint brush and a scraper and get to work, LOL
Maybe its time to put those fears aside… 😉
You could go help🤔🤣
Just remember u only live once , I too would just love to move to France but yes I have horses here so that's my tie but u should go for a holiday there and go and see I too follow a few Chateau channels and everyone looks so friendly and I say u have so much help over there . Go for it .
Your first intern!
Essie, we need to go together as volunteers next year!!
I am a woman in her 70’s who has just moved to France from California. I am trying to decide where to live and this cottage tour has been so inspiring!
For the first time, I have seen something I could actually imagine myself living in. I’m not a château type, but this size would be perfect. Along with a big garden and some animaux!!!
This is such a wonderful adventure and I love being able to travel with you! Thank you for your courage in just hopping into so many things, especially the sweet channel.
I think that there are lots of cute cottage type properties. I am sure you can find one! Thank you for watching! 😊
I hope you find the place of your dreams!
exactly!
As to your "emotional rollercoaster ", you will one day just feel right about your decision of leaving one home for the other. I struggled similarly even with two homes only 50 miles apart. After ten years of trying to maintain both and traveling between them every weekend, I finally retired and chose the home with the most surrounding nature and sold the other, carefully and slowly, to a buyer who loved it as much as I did. As to your "cave", my mother's home in Hungary had such a cave into a hill. Her family used it for storing barrels of wine from their vineyard and also as a root cellar. It also served to hide them from Russian invaders in WWII. I am so enjoying your videos! I also live on the west coast USA. Seattle is a great city but I hope you follow your romantic French adventure. It seems to suit you for now. You can always go back.
This cottage has completely captured my imagination. So glad you have a vision for this building. I know it's along way off but I can't wait to see it transform. Good luck to you.
It appears that the wire in those trees has "girdled" them. As the tree grows, the wire cuts into the bark and cuts off the flow of nutrients. If this is right above your home, I'd move that project up the list as the dead tree may no longer withstand a high wind, letting both trees come down. We just took down ten trees that were close to our house, and I sure miss them. I am enjoying your channel very much. Down here in Oregon.
Exactly!
They could be cut back although l didn't see the trees and where there girded off at!
I see the trees now and yep l would cut them down👍
This is the most interesting chateau project I've seen so far. The gardens and woodlands around your place are already lovely and I know they're going to be amazing as you transform them. You could also create a spa retreat where people could go to get some exercise just climbing those steps and strolling around. I'm out of breath just watching you do it! :D You could turn the (now) hazardous looking cave into a grotto or folly, more of a place to pear into rather than go inside of. So many options. I love the caretakers cottage too. It's all so dreamy! Thank you so very much for sharing your journey with us!
Thank you! 😊
The cottage is amazing - oodles of potential and can hardly wait to see it developed as part of the overall plan.
I sense that you are having a tough time in Episode 8. You are so appreciated by those of us who haven't had an opportunity to do what you are doing. I want to let you know that you are providing such joy but sometimes we need joy for ourselves. Be well ❤
Thank you! I’m hanging in there. 🥹
Hang in there dear Abby. Sending good thoughts your way.
What a wonderful place! So charming and full of character. I can see how it has taken hold of your heart.
The cottage will be adorable!
Also, you might want to consult with a tree surgeon for your wooded area to make it more safe.
Cleoie just loves these adventures, it all makes me so happy to watch ❤
Have you filmed the inside of the bakery? This was a great tour. So exciting!
I am totally enjoying your channel. Can hardly wait to see your next video.
I think you're homesick for your Chateau. Peace be with you 🙏
Love seeing Chloe enjoying these adventures around the property! Bosties are so full of happy energy! 🤗
I am so addicted to your videos! They are unfolding like a lovely mystery story! Thank you for sharing this journey with us! Every weekend, I'm waiting for the next one, lol!
Same for me. enjoying these videos immensely. have no idea why youtube brought this up for me but happily addicted to your chateau journey.
Oooo...and an idea. Create a brace for the trees. A wall? A deep concrete tie down? You can brace closer to the trees so your walkway isn't blocked and then remove the dead tree. Great firewood!
Things you do for all of us viewers, flip flops and all! Thank you. So exciting to see what you do with it all!
The cottage is adorable and with your good taste it will be exceptional! Please make sure to wash your hands after touching peeling paint - it may contain lead or expose asbestos which are both carcinogens.
Eeks. Good point! 😵💫
Love the potential of the cottage , the story e steps and the whole property. Exciting prospect.
😊
This is such a charming property.
What fun you’ll have, creating your dream over the years.
The outside wall covering is called Render. Made from limestone.
Also, I would like to say, I stumbled on your journey yesterday and I have been watching one video after the other from the beginning. You're doing an amazing job. You're very personable and real, something UA-cam tends to lack. So honestly, don't worry about "getting better" at these videos.
There is a tipping point on deterioration and your caretakers cottage could be reaching that point. I would suggest having at least minimal work done on the roof to make sure it's watertight - even if that means just a heavy duty tarp secured over the roof. Also, get the windows covered to stop rain from getting inside. That way things don't get any worse before you can start renovation or restoration. It will be a beautiful cottage once a sensitive renovation is complete.
Yes, roof is on the list for while I'm away. I will try and get the glass reinstalled as well. Or at least the shutters pulled closed. 😊
Loved the cottage tour. I imagine it's difficult slowing down after being focused on an exhilarating project for so many months. Take care. You'll be back in France before you know it. This adventure has just begun.
Hey 👋, how are you doing today; how’s everything going; hope it was a lovely day for you Wanda?
✨🌷Your amazing 🌷🍃✨🙏✨for sharing your journey ✨🙏✨🍃
Thank you! 😊
That was a very charming roam around the property and gave a great perspective. I can certainly relate to your wish to get back as soon as you can with so many fun projects on the agenda! Is it the visa process that's holding things up? Love your channel; don't worry so much about the perfection of the sound and video. I'm just happy you are sharing your experiences!
Yup. I'm working on the Visa. 😊
Yay, another video! Thank you. I’m sure its bittersweet to be back in the states. This château has such a peaceful air about it. You may want to do some energy clearing due to the divorce and the bad energy that was there before you purchased. No wonder the château loves you! And Chloe is precious!!
Yeah, I don't feel any bad energy at all. In fact, I don't think I've ever feel a happier house vibe! 😊
Wow! The tree situation is rather scary! That needs immediate attention for peace of mind.
So happy to have found your channel! What a dream it would be for me to do what you are doing! It’s a beautiful thing to be living your best life 😊❤️
The cottage is a really cute cozy spot,,what an adventure you are on! I say, get back to your château! Your heart is there already. You may have moved before but when we get older, we want to get on with it. ,,well, that's my little opinion. Your doing great,,enjoying your courage on this journey!
Thank you! 😊
I can relate. I tend to get hooked on the excitement of following through with a long awaited project, then the planned halt shakes me into an energy abyss. Dramatic I know, but I’m driven, addicted to the adrenaline of an exciting project. For me, I have to redirect that energy into smaller projects that lead me back to the ultimate destination. You know all of this💗💗💗💗. Your story touches me💗💗💗
That describes it perfectly! 😊
the pathway with coming down that was lined in dead boxwoods--just think that was a probably a beautiful path with a tall green hedge leading you down.. That property in it's hayday must have been something! How wonderful to see you bring it back to a new life
I know! It must have been amazing! I hope I can bring it back! 😊
I loved the ASMR aspect of hearing you walk through the woods. ❤️
Ooh! Maybe I have a whole new audience I can tap into! Haha! 😊
What a interesting place you have ,never dull moment or could ever be borning ,seems as you are learning every day about this chateau and grounds ,lucky lady ,😊
Very lucky! 🍀 😊
Thank you for a wonderful tour of the cottage and grounds. I wish you lots of luck in your new venture and well done with everything you have achieved so far. It’s just delightful to hear your plans and to see the progress you have made. Well done you 😊
I have to admit that I was relieved to see Chloe at the end. 👍
Wow I just love that cottage , I just love all the work that you are having done to restore your Chateau and bring it back to life a step at a time. Happy Sunday to you and Chloe. 💓
Loved it. I know how you feel about being in Limbo. My husband and I sold our home we raised our girls in and downsized to a rental for a short time only to have my mom who has Alzheimer’s love in with us. Now we are caught between where we want to be and where we are. Hard place to be! Prayers for a settling for all of us. 🥰🙏🏻😞
Exactly! 😊
to me your sound is fine… its your journey… your vidoes are my knotting companion… so its a treat
Such a fabulous property, the potential is boundless!!!
Oh wow! I can just imagine the stairs cleaned, the paths cleared and bushes and trees trimmed or cut! One thing at a time! If you get to patreon, maybe you’ll have more funds to move forward. First chateau, right? Then outbuildings! Wishing you all the best!
I do have a Patreon, but so far, it's rather slow... ;P Could be a while! Haha!
@@chateauchronicles no worries....one step at a time. I'll encourage you by subscribing and commenting andcwatching commercials. (Am retired now so can't be a on patreon. ) wishing you the best!! Hugs from Canada!
I would totally buy that caretakers cottage as a main home lol…it’s so cool.
Glad you are feeling tugged to be back in France - thinking that’s a very good thing 🤗❤️🌿and hope you can return there very soon! I am envisioning a fleur de lis pattern incorporated into the cottage 🤗⚜️🇫🇷
Wow u took the saying " thank u for taking us along on ur journey" literally, I felt just like I was there taking a walk with u. How exciting.
My pleasure 😊
I think I say this every video, but you have found the most amazing place.
So sorry to hear that you're struggling, Abby, since you're back in the states!! I hope in time you begin to feel okay with it!! The holidays coming up might help!! I certainly hope so!! Thanks so much for this 🎥!! 🇺🇲
The plateau area is great for hiking - could see it getting well cleared and with benches and retreat stops. Cave areas are quite interesting, and all the old vineyard trappings.
The cottage is amazingly rough but with a little work (a lot) and an imagination it could be really nice. Your idea of living there is something that I would consider. Really enjoy your videos.
Sad face for you and temporary return to beautiful Seattle, but you will be back at the chateau soon and we both will have happy face because I am hooked to see what you are doing next.
Interesting video of the cottage and it’s layout. Love the forest and how beautiful it is with so many explorations to be had. Caves are interesting too
Glad you enjoyed it!
Watching this video makes me jealous . You have this beautiful place and it seems not enough time to bring it back . I enjoy your videos and atleast to me the sound seems fine . Keep yourself safe and keep doing as much as you can . 😊
I can see this property hosting so many types of Ladies Retreats……so lovely…..I admire you so much for your courage…sounds like you’ve left a good part of your heart in France…..your feelings are very understandable…….❤❤❤
I think it was my whole heart! 😊
My grandparents owned Chateau de Cinq Mars before the war, and across the street in the town there were many white caves where people lived, They had a restaurant in one and in one or two they were growing mushrooms small scale. It was cool!
Forest management and structural surveys are probably on top of your list. Although making the cottage roof, walls and windows water tight is soooo tempting.
All of it at once! 😊
@The Chateau Chronicles That would be ideal! I was only careful with your money. 😉
The tree at 23 minutes looks like a southern magnolia, and those are seed pods. They're evergreen, and have lovely scented flowers - in the US South, they bloom between April and June.
Thank you Abby for showing the rest of your property. It’s so unique love it.
The gardener's cottage is a little gem! There's a guy named Nick who is magic with taking down trees. He's in France at La Lande (Normandy region I think) on Stephanie Jarvis' channel. I'm sure there's folk around you that do that but its just a thought. Enjoy Seattle and hope you can go back soon enough. Keep us posted anyway please.
Yes, not sure Nick would want to travel so far. ! will find someone though... 😊
Re the caretaker's cottage. I would put a small wood burning stove in it. Wood burning stoves are very safe! The door leaning against the wall should be put back into the kitchen. Think of cooking smells and heat escaping to other parts of the house. It would be sensible to do this. I admire you taking on this project. Your heart and mind are already in France!
Thanks for the tips! 😊
I absolutely love your videos of your beautiful chateau.. I've always loved Fashion, and France is the Fashion Capital!!
Loved the tour! I can see why you fell in love with the place. It really is unusual and has character. It will be a joy for all who stay there.
The sound is fine I reckon , u reckon too ? . I fault so sad her her she is clearly Chateau home sick but exciting times ahead .
You could frame a piece of the old wallpaper upstairs that would be neat a piece of old decor
Time to move for good ! embrace your new chateau and start your new adventure, how exciting ! Your wall paper looks like a flocked damask, a raised texture with a velvet/velour like knapp, first dating back to the late 1600. Your colour is more modern so id date it in the early/mid 1900's. Such a beautiful property, lots of potential but lots of $$$ as well, thanx for tour, well done !
Your living my dream.I have slways imagined refurbishing and living in a chateau or victorian home..I love the old world detail..Gorgeous home and land that you have purchased in France..Im in love💚💚💚
Hey 👋, how are you doing today; how’s everything going; hope it was a lovely day for you Renae?
Ur place is so beautiful ,so many beautiful trees around ur chateau ,once allll is cleaned up and trimmed down and cut down and pathways cleared ,this will look amazing I am sure ,waiting for those moments and videos ❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍👌👌👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
That cottage is gonna be so beautiful when you’re done with it! This is so interesting! Thank you for taking us in your journey!
Love your place. Chateau, cottage, caves, acreage for gardens. Well done.
Having fun going along with you on your journey. You certainly aren’t afraid of work. Also I’m enjoying watching Chloe and her adventures-adorable.
I'm so glad! ☺️
Wow , impressive! But man there is a lot of cleaning to do ! Your video sound to my doesn’t sound canny at all , I’ve been enjoying the videos a lot ! Keep them coming when you can!
Hey 👋, how are you doing today; how’s everything going; hope it was a lovely day for you Joyce?
I simply adore 🥰 the cottage
Yeah Chloe is back for the end! What a great dog you have!
That was fun. I’d like to see the caretakers cottage coming together. Even just removing debris spraying for mold. It’s nice. I have no clue about that cave room. But that could be neat too.
I just loved your tour, thank you for sharing with us! Everything takes time, I see your heart has already moved there. A few years from now you will be just fully enjoying the fruits of your labors. Also, check into having a small grape vinyard there to have your own wine to serve at your writers retreat. So many things you could do with that place, it is a fine place! Thanks for sharing your adventure!
You need an arborist for sure. Stephanie has a good guy! Someone who puts safety above all
Love the new intro graphic and music! The caretaker’s cottage has so much charming potential and practical application-hopefully one day you can hire either interns or an actual caretaker/gardener for the château. Love Chloe charging the way up the stairs, and her pause staring at the gate, (or was she waiting for her dog mom?) and eventual work around the gate. Adventurous, brave and smart just like her owner-that climb and destination is almost like a promenade. Those dead trees are an opportunity for seasoned firewood. 🤓 I love hearing all the birds singing away. You really have a bird sanctuary there. So exciting to watch this incredible adventure. Can’t wait for your spring return. Much continued success to you!
I’m sorry but as much as I love that music, I already identify it with Dan and Escape to Rural France, so maybe reconsider? I am sure it’s an accident and of course no one owns it, but still….♥️
The birds have been amazing. There are two owls who live near the secret garden cave. So dramatic when I disturb them! 😊
And he got it from Stephanie at LaLande... there is only so much royalty free French music out there! 😊
I can’t wait for you to find the tunnels! What a fantastic explore! Thank you!
Enjoyed your grounds tour, It's a beautiful and interesting estate. The cottage will be beautiful when the time is right. Blessings.
Such fun to go romping through those woods and see a secret cave WITH Windows! Amazing. Brings out my inner Nancy Drew.
Ooh. Maybe I should go looking for dead bodies! Haha!
Thank you for this video. Just plain fun keeping up with you.
that was fun. thank you. i cant believe u did that successfully in flipflops. lol.
Really enjoyable! What a great vision you have but can understand the frustration and anxiety of wanting to be there with so much to do. Hoping all will be well and you’ll soon be able to visit again. Praying that you will feel at peace and look forward to your thoughts and ideas.
Great content.I’m glad you’re videos came on my feed
Come Spring, you might think about getting a tree specialist in to decide what to remove and what to keep. You would still have a lovely natural path. Lovely!
Thank you for the garden tour, so interesting, I can see it cleared at some point for your guest to take walks, with nice gardens, paths and benches to enjoy… I love to garden, and I’m loving what your doing with the house…the cottage will be sweet someday…
Be kind to yourself…your videos are wonderful and so appreciated ❤
You are so kind, thank you. 😊
Hi Abby, Hope you can come back to France soon! 💕🤗💕
I love the cottage and can’t wait to see what you do with it❤
I love your adventure I work a lot in my yard and I keep thinking along with all the other projects you have what fun it would be to use a weed eater through your path around the château no wonder you embraced this challenge it is fabulous!🌞
I too would love to take a rake and hand clippers to that fantastic stone staircase, can't wait to see that whole area all cleared up!
I know! That is going to be super fun! 😊
c'est charmant ce petit cottage, et ce château pittoresque , je comprend pourquoi vous avez été séduite
I love your channel! I am in awe of what you have been able to do by making your dreams come true by purchasing your dream home and it’s in France 🇫🇷 TOTALLY jealous. You are doing a fabulous job keep up the very interesting and wildly anticipated by your new fans! Consider a Patreon to help with raising funds for your renovation or a go fund me! I would love to be a part of your journey and I’m certain I am not alone!
I do have a patreon page, though it's been rather slow. The funds so far might buy me a hammer! :0
I think you just contact the company and explain what you are doing and you have a UA-cam channel and would love to represent their products. During a video you thank your chosen sponsor and talk about the product they have sent to you. Patreon…I think you just go to the app for Patreon and search out joining them as a contributor.
I LOVE the grounds, how cool are those paths? I can see it all cleaned up waiting for people to walk and get fresh air. Thanks so much for sharing, beautiful chateau.
I hope you aren't alone while exploring the dilapidated cottage and stairs. Another vlog suggested sweeping up the rubble. If new rubble appears on the clean floor, then you know it's still crumbling. The magnolia seed is very common. People sometimes spray them gold and include them in wreaths or with Christmas greenery.
Yes, I can tell from the courtyard sweeping that there is constant crumbling. But it's been doing it since the 1700s and is all still there, so I think it's normal. 😊
Looking forward to seeing the reno and your life in France! Its a lovely property but wow, alot of work....Welcome back to the PNW, I'm up on Whidbey!
Also......our videos are getting better!!! 👌✌
Wonderful tour of the property! Adorable cottage.
I love all the video's you have done. Can't wait till you come back and more video's! Such a cool place! Awesome job you are doing!
Wow what a wonderful piece of land you have your own walking trail There are so many possibilities it's rough but beautiful
I agree! 😊
Wow love it! It truly is an enchanted garden!
What an amazing place. I can’t stop watching your videos. Very beautiful property, I can’t wait to see how you are going to clean it all up!
Loved the tour of your property. I can see why you miss it. Nice you are having lovely weather back in the states 😀.
Yes, unusually sunny for Seattle in November! 😊
That place was probably absolutely glorious in its heydey. It would be wonderful if you could find pictures of when it was a fully functioning vineyard.
I know! I have been trying. I have gotten some great stories though! More on that in upcoming videos! 😊
An arborist may have options for your dead tree situation. I wouldn’t tackle anything without professional guidance.
Morning, Oh I loved the tour around the property. Thank you and all the best with the transition.
