I like the factory seams that look like they were put on , on Monday morning by someone with a hangover from drinking all weekend.

Myself, like the instructor, was amazed no seam sealer was under the tape. Glad it was pointed out, simply magical. Looks like half of what came out of the tube went in the trash. Keep that in mind when doing your estimate. Buy extra tape.

The swirl bead is nice and all until the owner or manager bitches about it being a waste of seam sealer and has to remind you how much each tube costs 😒

Well as a customer I can say it makes a difference, my Toyota uses that swirl bead on some seams and not on others, the wider swirl has held up much better, the skinny ones peel up very easily and don’t offer much protection.

What's the purpose of the OEM swirl beads on the car panels? I see them on my floor pans.

Seam sealer serves the same purpose as it always does. To seal the seams of vehicles from outside elements. Whether its oem style or w.e style, makes no difference.

@@xgnofearzthe10thgenlegend82 Yea, all these years and I am yet to get a car back due to a seam sealer not matching the OEM style from a customer. Insurance companies won't even care, so long as its done cheap and fast.

Except the textured just mimics the OEM. That OEM is high pressure sprayed seam using a gun, which will fll all the gaps for overlapping metal sheets. This is very hard or not possible to achieve just by applying a low pressure seam with your hand..so texture is for faking something which is a replica --wrong applied

Thank you!! I was about to write a comment question the basic/logical reason *WHY* this is even a thing, but figured nobody would reply with an understanding of what/why I am asking. This is exactly what I thought a proper answer would be: the air gun texturing is only to mimic OEM applications which leave certain surface textures due to application methods and other specifications. I wondered if mimicking these appearance textures was a way to fool visual surveyors into thinking there was no repair done at all?? If so, that is a sort of fraud. Reserved only for competitive restorations perhaps, but all others should probably not ought to try to make it seem as though the repair sealant was in fact OEM. This comes down to ethics if you consider the many various frauds unknowing public would face regarding buying "never wrecked" cars, yet are tricked by clever/skilled repair.

@@jgizzy I've charged insurance companies, and have gotten paid, to duplicate OEM seam sealer appearance. What I see it as is trying to bring the vehicle to pre-accident as much as possible. If there were no taped edges on a quarter panel, I'm going to bill to cut at the pinch welds underneath the weather stripping. Same with this.

This video skips over the first step of replacing oem seam sealing, which is first applying a thin bead along the seam and pushing or “tooling” it into the seam using a putty knife
