@@elizabethwilby9540 Yes Meme, is a joy powerful machine just kind like a Mustang GT with gas tank in the reserve, I have the MSA300 for about 1 year I also have the GTA26, MSA220C, 161T and the Trimmer 135, I have the chargers AL 101 and AL 500, batteries I have 1 AP200, 1 AP300, 3 AP300S and 4 AP500S, the GTA26 used different batteries.
I have submited all my machines probably to a tests beyond manufacturers recommendation so far no one have failed. Now in regard to the MSA300 and the Trimmer 135 to cut contínuos I must have 4 AP500S batteries and the AP 500 charger connected to a power outlet from the beginning or I run out of batteries. Cutting oak logs using the 18" bar and about 80% of the bar in about 15 minutes the AP500S battery is out of charge then it needs about 15 minutes just to cool off and about 45 minutes to charge back again, I am in Portugal and have written to Stihl manufacturing in Germany while providing all my information and the machines serial number so they can verify, sure as a customer I let themes know my personal observation in regard to all machines, exactly mention the short battery time on the MSA300 and on the Trimmer 135, they were very polite thank me for my observation and said they continuing working attempting to improve battery technology. Now you may tell your husband to got the 161T I am sure he be surprise with this little saw I have used and abused it for almost 3 years this little machine never fail I have it with a 30cm bar and very much only use the AP200 because is light, careful if he use the AP500S battery he run out of bar oil way before he run out of battery also is heavier only if I not have other battery I use the AP500S on this saw. On the MSA300 be gentle on the screws that holding the plastic top cover of the air filter a friend mine over tight mine and I end up going to the Stihl dealer to replace one screw.
The MSA300 I even have used it under moderate rain again so far never have a problem. I not know if your husband have the sensor on his saw I have in all my machines and sometimes sense I kind friend with a Stihl dealer in Spain witch is the Stihl dealer close to me in europ I go by their and he verfie and download all maintenance and do it acording to Stihl and the machine sensor information, is a kind a interesting litle thing and is not so expenssive for the MSA300 and the Trimer I pay 40 Euros each for the other machines they use difrent sensor and is about 20 Euros each.
In resume I think your husband be well served with this saw. I have the MSA220C for about 3.5 years the 161T about 3 years and so on never have problems.
Do not forgot clean the air filter on the MSA300, I have not figured out how come so much dust can got their.
      Regards, now from Portugal
God Bless America and all Our people.

Thank you for all the information you gave us. We also have the MSA 160 with a 12" bar and MSA 220 with a 16" bar as well as the MSA 300. He has cut about 20 cords of alder with the MSA 220 and was very happy with its performance. He said he will be careful to check the oil if he uses the AP500S battery in that saw.

@@elizabethwilby9540 Yestarday I went help a friend cutting fier wood from a pile of logs, even with 4 AP500S, 3 AP300S, 1 AP300 and 1 AP200 batteries and the charger AL500 on from the beginning I end up running out of batteries and have to start my old husky 162 gas power while waiting for batteries recharging. Surely this was continuos cutting witch demands much from the batteries, the saws as always preforming well but either I with have to got another batterie or another charger Al500 to be able of keeping up next time. We start a 8.00 am to 6.00 pm with only about 20 minutes lunch.

That's a long day to be cutting firewood. Our truck only holds 1/2 cord of wood and that is all my husband cuts in one session. Check out our thread on Firewood Hoarders Club.firewoodhoardersclub.com/forums/threads/battery-sunday.46851/

This for real ? No protective gear. No chain brake on in rough ground. Nada. What does an ER visit cost you ? This ain't a toy.
    Even battery saws bite flesh.

Do your research before you comment! He is wearing safety glasses, the pants he is wearing are Kevlar lined fallers pants and he has steel toed work boots on.

My apologies for sounding so rude. I really do appreciate your concern for my husband. I realized that not everyone knows what Kevlar lined fallers pants are so I have included this link for more information. www.bigkclothing.ca/bk80136fri-nv
