I bought a 9 inch bench top bandsaw from Grizzly tools, for carving . It's small plus goes on sale a few times a year for under 200.00 . I believe it is one of the best investments I got for carving . I'm able to buy different sizes of wood and cut it to what I want. Great small bandsaw. Thanks for showing how you block out your pieces.

Yeah perhaps some tips or ideas on using natural stains, dyes? I am experimenting with the use of tea and metal sponges in vinegar with mixed results

Hate seeing people claim God Given Gifts. My son received the best scholarship in the State Ohio for Art and I'm a witness of lots of time and work efforts was involved in his "earing " the scholarship.

Great idea, thank you! But the hind legs & tail part was somewhat raced through, difficult to catch the details... Also, would be very interesting to se how you paint them, resulting in a color gradient and light spots...

I am still looking to know the way you paint those walruses to get the color gradient - do you use differently diluted paint to obtain lighter/darker areas or do you paint them all the same and use some fine sandpaper to lighten some parts afterwards?
