Hey VW fanbois. Look at the pricing of these 3 cars and then talk again about how pointless the race is. That is why the Fezz ST is such a popular car - it's not only more dynamic and interesting than your Polo gti but also a lot cheaper. The real star here is that Swift. You'll notice that it demolished your beloved VW. Sorry!

Leaving aside the issue about the Up GTI mismatch, surely the story here is how Suzuki has successfully optimised its overall package? With an almost 60 bhp advantage over the Swift's 138 bhp, this should have been a slam dunk for Ford. But instead, it looks like their ST needs to spend some time in the gym losing some lbs.

Even Suzuki pretends 8,1 sec... its like the power, 140 announced by Suzuki, and around 153 on dyno... so 6.5 for the Ford, and in reality 7,1 for the Swift, so its far less than 2 seconds like you sayed...

The Swift Sport was closer to the Fiesta than I imagined, considering it was 60bhp down.

It is not about power.
It is about power per mass and how much of it you can get on the street.
The Swift Sport did well off the line. For a time it was staying with the ST. Light weight advantage I guess. But the extra power in the ST eventually got it in front. I'd be interested to know what a comparison of in-gear times would be like. Especially something like 3rd gear from 30 MPH for all 3 cars?

@@ParkersTV The old 1.6 Swift Sport runs the old Fiesta ST pretty close on the 1/4 too. It may be n/a, but has an extended rev range meaning gears are held longer along with the benefit of greater torque multiplication.

Swift kept up pretty well in my opinion, it's just so damn expensive compared to the previous generations
its even more expensive than the fiesta st in insurance. Almost twice as much insurance taxes.

I couldn’t really give a f about insurance tbh it’s just that cheap Interior and poor build quality that puts me off the swift full of hard tacky plastic and looks childish. For 20K + that’s not acceptable I’d rather get an st that’s not much more at all. There’s a reason why you don’t see swift’s sports on the road and st’s everywhere.
Dont people realise that the name SPORT as no bearing on power of the engine. Sports cars are mainly built for agility and fun. Take ford focus sport 1.6 115bhp, someone can still have a little fun with those cars despite being pulled by only 115 horses. The ST models are designed for power were the swifts boosterjet engine is just a conventional engine which still perform reasonably well and is tunable. I like both fiesta and swift but for me i would take swift.
The Swift did very well against the far more powerful ST, but then again, 4 cylinders against 3 will always make a difference even with less power. Suzuki will be more reliable long term as well :)

JDM Guy not really. If you walked in to a deal and asked for a fiesta at the same spec level as the swift the fiesta is more than 5k more expensive. Out that 5k into the swifts performance you get hands down much faster car. I do agree the Up is not of this class and the polo would have been the correct choice. The SSS is down on power and leaves it in a no mans land, I’d happily pay over 20k for mine if it had 200bhp like the fiesta. Suzuki I think cocked up there.
The Swift Sport vs. the Fiesta with 140hp would be interesting.
It wouldn't..... the older swift sport hammered it in terms of acceleration.....the new one is even faster.

For the commenters questioning why the drag race includes an Up GTI and not a Polo GTI...
This drag race is part of a larger series of videos where we find our best Cheap Fast Car of the Year. In the small fast hatchback class we have the Fiesta ST, Up GTI and Swift Sport. Yes, the Polo GTI would be better suited in a drag race, but we believe that - for the money - the Up GTI is more fun and a better proposition, hence why we had it with us (and included it in the drag race) on the day.
Yes, the race is a bit of a mismatch, but we felt that viewers would rather see it than not - even if it was a little unfair on the Up GTI!
That is so stupid! I completely disagree, the ford fiesta is closely matched to the polo talking about performances as well as talking about the prices.... views are not a good reason to record a viedeo which is tought and prepared with quality. Sorry but this is a mess.

They should of tested the Swift Sport Auto version against the ST. In practice, the Swift Sport Auto is faster than the Manual gearbox one. Performance Auto measured the Auto Swift Sport as having 0-62mph at 7 seconds or 0-60mph at 6.7 seconds. That would have been a more realistic test. Still we are talking one car (Swift Sport) with 155hp V a ST at around 200hp. Imagine a Swift Sport at 200hp, that would be a more like for like test.
for future drag races use more in car footage showing the other car pulling away to show a better representation if the speed difference.
but why have you tried vehicles of any kind and on all youtube never appears in the ibiza cupra 1.4tsi or 1.8tsi tests?

The Swift is closer to the Ford than to the Volkswagen. Well done Suzuki. Swift will accelerate even better when starting in second gear btw. :-)
Fiesta doesn't make sense in this comparison. It compares with Polo GTI, which is better than the Fiesta ST.
A better suited car would be a Ford Ka ST, if it would exist.
And yet, no one is talking about the polo gti, just like the previous Gen, the fiesta ST will remain king of its game

The polo gti May only be better in terms of build , it has a 2.0. Turbo
The fiesta has a 1.5 Turbo with 3 cylinders and they are very close in performance straight runs,
Throw a few corners into the mix and the polo doesn’t have a chance .
You my friend are comparing old stuff. Have you driven the new polo and the new fiesta to say those things? With a small tune, that 2.0T in the polo goes to 250-300HP. Fiesta's engine is already pushed hard. Fiesta might feel and handle a bit better than the polo, but that doesn't make it night and day difference as you like to make it.
To be fair, I would choose the polo, give it a small tune and enjoy performance comparable to Focus ST, rather than having to work with a 3 cylinder 1.5 turbo engine.

It's worth putting that Swift on a dyno; I'm sceptical that it has _only_ 140bhp.
It's under 1000kg and has near 170 ftlbs of torque.

I've owned all 3 of these cars and i must say the Up had a poor start, it can easily bog down when changing from 1st to 2nd however when you hook it up right I've no doubt it would have kept up with the Suzuki.
