    it's normal for asian kids to get hit by their parents frequently but somehow it's not abusive or something sure we feel a bit bad but we forget about it after sometime because we know that we got hit because of our own fault. One time, I was listening to music using the computer while he was watching the tv. He told me to lower the volume of the speaker but I did not listen. After a minute, a pillow flew and it hit me in the head. Wow, it hurt so much. My father could've been a baseball player with that strength. 😂😂😂 Now, I miss him.

    in America a mother spanks her child when they misbehave the child threatens to call 911 so the mother doesn't do it anymore and they grow up a mess. while in Korea they tell each other the stories and laugh since they have stories similar to the situation but they grow up thanking their parents.

    westerners are really fragile, this is not abuse it's a way of disciplining. yeah it may sound harsh and too much for you guys but at the end of the day it'll make you realize that what you did was wrong and you will tell these stories to your children and laugh together. just take now for example, we talked about it at school and laughed like fools together.
    edit: i commented this 3 years ago, but people are still watching this video and came across my comment so i wanna voice my current opinion, i still think that a certain amount of disciplining is crucial however there’s a really bold line between abuse and discipline. i grew up fine with brutal and strict parents but somewhere out there people ended up hating their parents for hitting them and that’s valid, understandable. my opinion changed throughout the years so sorry if this comment offended anyone back then. and by the way if your significant other hits you and locks you in the closet (doesn’t matter what’s the reason) it’s domestic abuse, turn them in.

    • @Blue11Girl
      @Blue11Girl 7 років тому +49

      makkachin It doesn't work for everyone. There are children, who would really hate their parents if they get hit by them and then don't try to make them proud of them and don't try to get a good career etc., because they couldn't care less and then they won't stay in contact with the parents. If children at a certain age can't understand that they shouldn't do some things and have to get hit, than I think they are really careless and somehow stupid. Screaming can also discipline a child and you won't have to hurt it. Punishments, for example for a lot of people I know, won't work and they laugh about it or even hit back. Some of the stories here were too extreme and actually I think it will make the child be really emotional or a bully, if they get hit a lot. I am a westerner and these kind of things are not seen in a good light here, but the parents can discipline a child if they scream and really show that they are disappointed in their child. Most children here are spoilt, because their parents don't do either and just think the school is going to fix them, which obviously doesn't really work.

      @5555-f8l 7 років тому +32

      ***** "kids need to have some hard discipline nowadays" hmm if we're talking about terrible behavior most of the most fucked up things done in the world are committed by adults (like cheating on their wives, human trafficking, commiting murder etc.) So following your logic if I should slap a kid for who knows maybe being noisy then I should also beat up adults who are irresponsible and who cannot take care of their own family, besides of your going to say "kids these days are so annoying" well the question is are they naturally bad people? Because if I remember correctly the ones who influences a child are actually media (tv, internet, radio) teachers, parents in mother words adults so basically maybe the reason why kids are fucked up these days is that even adults who should be more mature can't clean up the shit that they've created and in fact are even piling more shit.

    Idk but now that I've grown older I kind of thank my parents for those punishments? They really helped me behave... Nowadays at restaurants the parents always try to calm the child down but kids these days are more spoiled... and I've heard some talk back to their own parents... Nowadays we talk about those times being hit as funny times lol

    When I see "it's their culture", "it's common to do that in Asia". I didn't know it was specific to Asia haha I'm french and when I was a child my parents would use whatever was around, never a fry pan though that must hurt so bad xD And I noticed that a lot (not all of them) of young adults who didn't get even a little slap growing up are rude as hell now.

    I come from a Southeast Asian family also grew up there, I don’t agree with educating by hitting, threatening or other things that hurt physically and mentally even though the goal is to discipline children, this is toxic and many normalize, it will have a bad impact when the children grows up without them knowing it or not. I hope more people can applied gentle parenting in the right way.

She said she didn't want to make the same mistake and ask me to be even better mother in the future

  • @vhinehudas

    I was hit many times but I never got a scar from my father's beating but my sister did. It was when my sister came home from school. She was 10 years old. She change to normal clothes but she only cluttered her uniform on the floor. My father told her to put it in the laundry basket. She wouldn't listen. My father repeated it for five times but still she didn't listen. My father snapped and hit her on the legs with a belt. She was wearing shorts. Her tears fell but she was trying to act cool. She was standing quietly while clenching her fists. Imagine a ten year old with that kind of rebelliousness? My father lost composure and hit her three times. She got cut. Seeing this, my mother immediately stopped my father. After his composure came back, he realized his mistake and when he saw my sister's cut, my father cried. He was the one who bought ointment and put band aid on my sister's cut. For the next five days, he was the one putting ointment every night on my sister's cut .
    Yes, my father was wrong but try to see things in his perspective. You see your ten years old daughter in front of you. She's still young but she's already disrespectful and rebellious. You will worry about the future, you will think of the things you need to do to fix it. So much worry that makes your head dizzy.
    You see? We sometimes drive our parents to the edge. We test their limits but they are after all humans.
    As asians, they believe that discipline by hitting is a very effective way of teaching good manners. Although I don't want to promote hitting, I still believe that sometimes it is needed.

    when i was in elementary school, (i am now 15 lmao) i rebelled pretty bad to my mom and dad. like, i lie constantly and be rude and spout things before I think. And because I mature so fast and I am pretty much an emotional thinker, I always think WHY I behave like that. Being rebellious will only make you hurt. I got slapped by both of my parents for throwing tantrums and as a human being, I HATE being afraid to someone you love and getting painful. So I appreciate both of my parents so much I do everything they wanted to. After all, you only live once and who will be proud of yourself if it wasn't the one who takes care for you? That's why I never understand parents who didnt show love to their children. I really don't know why. Lots of my friends has issue with theirs and it makes me think A LOT about people's personality and what makes they act like that.

    And this is why kids nowadays are SO OUT OF CONTROL. People nowadays are scared to spank their children when they do wrong. " talking resolve everything " but if that don't work use the spanking! They need to know they did wrong. Nowadays kids all yells at their parent. Disrespect them and that's why. Spanking/ hitting is right but don't ever hit their head and that would be okay.

    I spent most of my teen years at boarding school so I didn't really get to spend much time with my family, till now. But there is one time that I lost my attitude while fighting with with my baby bro. I was 16 and he was 12 back then. Things got really bad to the point that my mom interfered. But being hot-tempered child, I lashed out to my mom and then for the first time ever(hopefully last time as well) SLAPPED me so hard that I swear I see stars after that. I was quite shocked and started to pour my heart out, how she always let my siblings win and get whatever they want but not me, since I am the eldest. My mom also was dumbfounded when she slapped me that hard and could not talk at all. That was the turning point when she started to be more attentive, little by little. Even now, after 10 years, though my mom and I do fight sometimes but at least she make efforts to be more attentive to me and I really try my hardest to tame my hot temper and be a good daughter to my mom.

    Somi's shy laugh near the end reminds me of Jackson's when he is embarrassed.

    Many asians here mention being rebelious, what is exactly considered rebelious for asians?

      Basically talking back to your parents and disrespecting them in any way.
      However, drinking and smoking is definitely considered rebellious too. It's just that in East-Asian countries, celebrities are judged very harshly if it's revealed that they drank and smoked underage and can even lose their careers over it so they tend to keep mum about it. In America, you have Gwenyth Paltrow admitting she drank and smoked at the age of 11 and Olivia Hussey smoking in an interview when she was 15 and no one gives a shit.

      thats interesting. I live in Europe. I personally dont smoke im not a fan of it but all of my friends do and they all started when they were 15-16, we all did drinking before 18 and no one says anything to you. I know that some cultures in Asia are a bit strict when it comes to dating but i think me and all of my friends here in Europe had the same experience and thats parents telling you that they dont care if you have sex they just dont want you pregnant before you finish school.

      MushroomFany Taengoo I am not really sure but isn't there a law about minors being able to drink but only with the parent's consent? I don't think there's such a law in Korea tho

    Fear isn't respect tho. Learn the difference. You're obedient only because you fear your parent. That's not adolescents, it's child abuse. Enjoy the traumas, and issues you gonna have as an adult which is gonna ruin your relationships.
