I`ve had my Ryobi 10 years and it`s used almost daily for plying floors for LVT flooring and beading laminates/wood flooring, I can use it all day. Never let me down and never overheats.

Great review. I bought the stapler for stringing floor insulation and I was so impressed I bought the brad nailer too. One battery did the whole floor string job and I didn't have to tangle with air hoses and compressors and saved about 3 hours labor time from not having to deal with setting up a compressor for the 2 day job.

It's not about being a fan boy, it is what it is, real tool reviews is hands down the best tool reviewer on UA-cam hands down. This has discourage me a lot, but not completely I got a deal from my nearest liquidation seller and got this nailer and the 15 gauge for 500 bare tool. I couldn't pass that deal, I have 9 plus Milwaukee tools and 11 batteries, so I couldn't invest in another platform. So I won't be racing with this tool with any coworker, for who can sink more brads until the battery dies.
But I will be buying the airs trike for my mom and brother.

    • @joycemorgan2257
      @joycemorgan2257 6 років тому +4

Don't be discouraged. In real use, the tool will fire all the brads you need it to. This test, while interesting, is completely unrealistic compared with real life use. I cannot think of a single real life brad nailing application where this test means anything.

A real good friend of mine swears by Milwaukee while I've been using Ryobi for years. I've only had 1 dud in my years of using Ryobi and my buddy has had a couple of returns. For the price I'll keep using Ryobi and he can keep paying the extra cost for the name.

I recently moved and am stocking up on tools for some woodwork. A couple contractors at my last house that helped get it ready for sale used Ryobi's and I was surprised. They said the trick is if you use the Lithium+ batteries at 3AH+ the Ryobi tools are really good, they had the 9 AH and 6 AH Lithium+. Their stock 1.5-2AH Lithium batteries that come with a lot of the tools just don't provide enough juice and your tool underperforms. I noticed that myself, used a fresh 1.5 Lithium battery that had a hard time with some screws on my impact driver, my 4AH Lithium+ gave it a lot more power with much less charge.

Thanks so much for this great review. I was specifically looking for this comparison. I own 3 Milwaukee M18 tools and have 2 batteries and was debating whether to go with Milwaukee or Ryobi. I just loved how the Ryobi worked and did not have nails damaged the wood as Milwaukee did. I guess I'll have to break down and buy a Ryobi nail gun. I will get the charger and battery definitely come amazon as they have a Ryobi charger and non-Ryobi battery for far less $ than the Ryobi batteries/charger combo.

@@RealToolReviews Also subscribed... I've been updating my tools and small shop (all sideline / DIY type -- my profession is elsewhere, but I really care about this stuff), and looking for really good tools and equipment these days, while "retiring" some of my earlier "budget" purchases. Looking forward to browsing your reviews, as this is a constant work in progress for me, and in depth tests and reviews are really helpful. Lately, in addition to my Ryobi One+ tools, I've been replacing my old socket set (excellent new Dewalt set), getting some sweet Knipex (pliers wrench is excellent, side cutters, etc.) and Klein tools, replacing old hammers (Milwaukee 19oz nailing and some Estwing ball peens and a tack hammer), etc. Favorite tool purchase over the past year was the Makita 36v (dual 18v LXT) double bevel sliding compound miter saw -- spectacular (and I snagged it at half price when a local HD was clearing out their in-store stock) -- didn't want to break into a new battery system, but this more than justified doing that, even if for the one tool. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos.

Not sure how you decided to do this video, but it the EXACT, PERFECT COMPARISON that I've been searching for. Not sure why UA-cam took 2days to prompt your video, but at least I found it. A 6yr old tool comparison is truly what I was looking for, as most of cordless tools (all Ryobi, by the way.) are older Ryobi models, even the ones I purchased just last year. Since I have so many Ryobi tools, it makes sense if the particular Ryobi tool is comparable to the big3 available at any box store, unless the utmost is required and a competing brand is a lot better.

All my Nailers are pneumatic and I just did my Workshop/Garage over with a French Cleat Wall... Hooking up the tank, pressurizing and spending time tripping over the hose... for a small job. Great Video, I watch each morning several woodworking videos with my morning coffee after watching this I immediately subscribed... great comparison well done!!!

I have so many m18 fuel tools and most are AWESOME! I just told a buddy yesterday that in another 2-3 years I probably wouldn't even carry a cord on the truck but as far as their cordless nailers..garbage! And trust me with the amount of Milwaukee batteries I own I would love to be able to stick with them for everything..I just can't. I still pull out the compressor and airlines. But I do have the Ryobi 23ga pin gun..I bought so a guy could go ahead and glue and nail miters together and tac to the jambs till glue set up and we would then come back around and nail everything off later in the day. But I been so impressed with that gun. I know its only shooting a headless nail but still has never let us down. So with 2 of their batteries already and a reliable gun I think I'm gonna pick up the 18ga and 2 more batteries. As far as the 15ga for the doors I'm gonna see how the 18ga works out for us and then make that decision. Nice video though..some guys are so set with every tool in their truck matching colors they miss out on some really good ones! Like I said with the amount of m18 batteries I have I would like to stick to the line but km not going to buy a tool only for that reason.

Whilst not a fan of either Ryobi or Milwaukee, but, having quite a few Ryobi One+ tools, I'd go for the Ryobi first anyway, but it was interesting to see the Ryobi out nail the Milwaukee quite convincingly. My purchase of Ryobi tools came down to the cost factor at the time...not ashamed to admit that. I've had no problems with the tools I do have, and they've outdone some more notable brands as well....I also have some Bosch and Festool tools as well....in some area's Ryobi stands out glaringly to me, and in other area's I'll weigh up the cost vs amount of use vs overall efficiency.
Great review, subscribed and will have a look at more of your previous stuff. Keep up the good work.Cheers from Aus!!!!

It bumps until you kill the battery e very time! Put a new batt on and keep going! Sorry boys the big R is a superior tool for heavy non stop, get the job done work! Love the M tools who doesnt? But this "new" model will get its ass kicked by my "old" ryobi. Thanks for a great demo!

I have a few Milwaukee tools. They are all over 20 years old.. very well built. They have lot and lot of hours on them. The newer stuff is not built as it was back in the day. I’m sure this is no surprise to anyone.. as the company was bought out and manufacturing changed.
In the past few years I have purchased many of these green tools.. they have held up very well. No big issues. For the price... they can’t be beat 99% of the time.
Built a huge deck last year.. had the help of a neighbor.
Neighbor brought over his Ridgid impact driver..
we both placed deck screws of well over an hour.
Needless to say both worked well. He was sure my Ryobi was going to over heat etc. (it was about 90 that day)
Never had an issue. Battery life was better than the Ridgid. (I’m guessing the Ridgid battery was a few years older)
Still hands down for the money. I will keep buying Ryobi.

By chance my local hardware store is moving to temporary premises so they were clearing out anything that was on display. I scored the Ryobi for 33% off so was very pleased anyway but your comparison has only added to my bargain happiness! I haven't used the tool much yet but it is a pleasure; especially the ease of control in placing the nail and the impact / depth control. The fact that the Mil won't fire on a vertical angle would be a deal breaker for me alone. By the way the warranty in Australia is 6 YEARS commercial use!!! I doubt they would offer that if they weren't confident that the tool will last the distance so it must be built like a tank inside. As an old fart, I may not even be around by then- These battery powered tools are a god sent for anyone getting past their prime and wanting to ease up on the physical effort of swinging a hammer or leaning on a screwdriver. God bless impact drivers and the guy who invented vice grips! He should be canonised and made a saint!!!!!!!!! Amen to that-

Yes i'm aware that Ryobi gear is the trial out stuff before it gets into the Milwaukee line, but i'm yet to find a m18v c18 nailer in the Milwaukee range that's good for moulding / Quad / Scotia. Only gun comes close is the Makita pin nailer. I'm in the market for a C16 Nailer and this has confirmed Ryobi is better then Paslode gas cartridge guns for the price.

The Ryobi nailer is 130 at home depot right now with a 3 year warranty. You theoretically could buy almost 3 of them for the same price as the Milwaukee and get 9 years of warranty (if you keep buying them every 3 years). Granted I buy all of my Ryobi tools at Factory Direct Tools (usually refurb or factory blemished). The refurbs only have 1 year warranty but I also only paid 75 for the nail gun there.

I'm buying the Ryobi. I'm a home owner DIY guy and already have a couple 1+ Ryobi drills and batteries and it just makes more sense for me. Also I was impressed with its ability through the hardwood and only need an 18G nailer for trim work

I've been using a Ryobi for 5 years attaching quater rounds. Love the tool, I'll buy the same one when mine dies. Please also note that Milwaukee tool and battery prices are virtually double those of Ryobi.

I love Milwaukee tools and am fully in on their battery platform. I was looking to buy the brad nailer because I'm sick of hauling my compressor, gun and hose to put in 5 nails. The Milwaukee is $399 but I found a sweet deal for the Ryobi 18g Airstrike with charger and battery for $178. So happy I own the Ryobi! For my regular use I doubt I'd over heat the Milwaukee but it would be that job when I needed the extra run time that would drive me up the wall.

Interesting. Been looking at 18V cordless nailers recently to replace my Paslode gas nailers. Was leaning toward the new Hikoki (Hitachi) ones but keep seeing the Ryobi getting good reviews. Seems they've created a sweet piece of kit. Here in the UK the Ryobi kit is near as damn it half the price of the Milwaukee. I'm gonna see if I can get to test one somewhere. It'll be interesting to see how long lived the Ryobi is without the thermal protection. Mind you, they come with the same 3 year warranty as all the others here. Good review.

I personally have a combination of both brands. I use Milwaukee exclusively for the mechanic work I do for a living and swear by their impact guns. The 18v 1/2" has just as much grunt as my buddies air operated snap-on.
My older (brushed) Ryobi stuff is used for my personal wood working projects and they work just fine for me. I just can't justify spending that kind of money for Milwaukee that will only be used occasionally.
Can't wait to add this nailer to the mix.
I wish there was more reviews of the 18v planer.

Can't always believe the hype. I have a Ridgid hyper drive and im happy with it. Milwaukee gun definitely not worth the price. Keep up the good work!

I'm on Dewalt battery platform. I only ever used bump mode when I 1st got my nailer, firing 50+ nails into some scrap wood. Now, it's all about accuracy, damage control and getting a good finish. The Ryobi is 1/2 the price of the Dewalt here in the UK. It may well be the better machine. The Dewalt hasn't let me down.

cold temp operation of my Ryobi is the only problem I have had with it. Below about 55f it tends to not fire. I mostly work indoors so not a major issue once I figured out root cause. Otherwise is working great.

I just bought a Ryobi today. I really like. I do notice that on occasion it makes a light whizzing sound when I stop using it. no real rhyme or rhythm as to when it does it. Im just wondering if it is suppose to do that or should I try and exchanging it. Maybe its cycling in more air?

  • @jimking2299

The Airstrike is very, very tough competition. I bought mine five years ago when we bought our fixer-upper house. Used it and a Campbell Hausfeld pneumatic nailer to install tongue-and-groove ceilings and replace every inch of baseboard, casing, corner trim and crown molding in a five-bedroom house. I eventually quit using the pneumatic nailer because dealing with cord, compressor and air hose was just too cumbersome, and it misfired or jammed every 20 or so shots. The Ryobi sank thousands of trim nails without a misfire or jam.

Excellent review with tests that really mean something. Everything you claim from your testing is based on "Objective" observation and very little to do with subjective responses to ergonomics, feel, balance, etc. that may very well change from user to user. I realize that this test may not be representative of today's models, but your methodology is sound and makes for a wonderful review video. Good work ...
