I have a fully loaded sx turbo awd with every option. I love it more than my previous BMW x5. The only drawback is fuel economy. Im getting 15-16 mpg in mixed driving, but I do have a heavy foot though.
The SX is a really a nice vehicle. In fact its on par with CX-5 in terms of handling but vastly more power, but if you are getting that kind of mileage ouch. Are you using premium fuel? Thats the catch with turbos. Yes you may be able to use regular unleaded with a turbo but it can hurt the efficiency of the engine and your mileage will take a hit.
I know the premium fuel might give you a slight kick in HP. I'm not sure if the sportage SX turbo requires premium or not. Some turbo's do. With that said, your mileage is much lower than what you should get even with regular unleaded. You might want to inquire with the dealer about your mileage and ask them.
This is a great review! You are soo thorough, well organized, and i enjoyed how you pointed out little details that I haven't seen in other reviews about this car. Subscribed for such a comprehensive review! Thank you!
KIA has been killing the game with value. They're the best overall brand period right now IMO. I'll be very curious to see how Genesis does as a brand. I hope it does well as they're providing just as many features as the Germans, but for 60% of the price. If you don't care about a goddamn badge, they're definitely the way to go.
Finally, thanks for the review Alex! I'm loving my EX especially for under $24,000 and find it better looking (inside & out) then the outdated competition like the Rav4, Rogue, etc.
Excellent video Alex, you answer every question asked by someone doing a comparison, and you leave the final question --which looks the best-- up to the viewer to decide.
Spending my Friday night catching up on Alex on Auto's when suddenly a new video appears. And for a car I might actually be interested in buying no less!
Hi Alex your work is among the best out there, thank you. I notice as this segment gets crowded so do your comparatives at the end. I think especially for this segment it would be great if you could do a market recap every so often. And I suggest rating bothe the high end versions you get, and some more middle of the road lower cost options
Hey Alex, Great videos. I really hope you can get to review a 2016/17 ford expedition because it seems like the only full size suv with a proper 3rd row for adults without having to get the longer wheelbase. It seems to always get overlooked. I would love to get your opinion on that SUV since you're quite thorough. Greatly appreciated!
can you do basic model reviews? in in the market for one but I can't afford the top of the line, as a matter of fact I can only spare 20k. it will be nice to see who give you the most for less money. when you do a fully loaded well there's a lot to like and even the ride becomes different. now if you do the basic one it will be more down to earth.
Great video lots of info. Question what do you think about the Sportage being able to comfortably fit 3 car seats in its second row? 1 rear racing and 2 front facing to be exact.
We enjoy your videos very much. You mentioned that it is hard to compare every vehicle, any chance that you can put a table up with the rankings? This way, we can see which cars have moved down or up as each new car gets released (e.g. Your #1 car last year may have dropped to #6 this year).
You mentioned several times the CX-5....I think Mazda have heard you, and I am expecting their next gen CX-5 to rasie the bar again. Once again a nice and informative review. thanks.
Your reviews are great, and the comparison at the end is exactly what I was looking for, thanks! (I have to say, I always thought the sportage was more like subcompact (as the HR-V) and the sorento was the compact one (as the CR-V), but I'm new to this so I was wrong)
Alex, would comment which compact crossover within this range has the quietest cabin for long drives. I am also questioning the cabin noise between the Nissan Murano or Ford Edge. I am looking for the most comfortable vehicle and quietest for my 2 hour work commute. Thanks. I am colossal fan of your reviews. The best reviews are made by you.
Alex, Kia would've put an LED daytime running light strip below the headlamp mogul and install a high beam next to the low beam while still having the LED fog lights.
Would Love to have heard your opinion comparing the top spec Sportage with your prior "top pick", Mazda CX-5 Have driven neither but the standard equip of the SX Sportage is compelling; so too is the reported sportiness & economy of the CX-5
How would you compare this to the 2017-19 Ford Escape? I just got a 2018 titanium and I think it really moves out with 2.0 turbo awd. It also feels like a sporty ride for this segment.
2017 RAV4 LE comes with safety sense (radar cruise, pre collision braking, lane departure with steering assist, etc.) standard, at just under 25k. Do you still think the sportage has more standard equipment? (Btw I didn't see any of those features on the sportage options list, is it standard or not at all available?)
Alex, great video. I have a problem with the Kia in terms of it's fuel efficiency. The turbo 2.0L engine is just not competitive with either the Cherokee V6 or even the Ford 2.0 Ecoboost, which has in the past been a bit of a fuel-pig. In today's market, I can't see buying a vehicle with less that class-competitive fuel economy, when there are so many available that are in that mid-to-high 20's range.
I touch on that in the video, however one should keep in mind that by the EPA numbers the Escape, Cherokee or Forester XT will only cost $50 less to operate for 15,000 miles which is not a huge hit on the pocket book. I look forward to seeing Kia's 8-speed auto spread across the line, that should help here.
Hey Alex! Great review as usual. I was wondering if you were planning on reviewing the Corolla iM and other new Toyotas, which I would like to see. Thanks!
Alex. This is really nice redesign inside and out. However, the fuel economy seems to be the biggest drawback. Maybe if they install a start/stop system and/or upgrade the 6spd to a DCT or 8spd, the eco part will improve.
The whole trunk space thing has gotten completely blown out of proportion. You car reviewers need to CHILL OUT!! Four people do not take SIX suitcases on a trip to the mall. To assume that anyone needs 70 cubic feet of space is just SILLY.
Thanks for the detailed review Alex. What really annoys me is like many manufacturers, the fun engine is only available in top trim that also comes with stuff I don't want. I was looking at this, but eventually decided against it because I don't want leather etc. After watching this video I definitely do not regret getting a Forester XT over the Sportage. :)
You said the sportage lags at being the most fuel efficient in this segment but which vehicles make and model are the most fuel efficient in this segment?
what does "sporty" mean? In it's most practical highway terms, to me, it's acceleration both at speed (when wanting to pass or move out of someone's way fast) and from slow or stop (when wanting to merge onto the freeway). Otherwise, for driving pleasure, "sporty" takes on the sense and feel stuff you describe about the CX-5 over this.. but to me that's not as important as practical performance.
Can't seem to get HD...this is the first time your video comes across as 360......tried other auto channels with good results, so I don't think it is my computer. FYI
I had a '13 Kia Optima and had the same complaint about the headrests in the front seat - their rear-most setting was still too far forward, which became quite tiresome on a long ride.
I have always been disappointed in their gas mileage. I have an Escape with a 2.0, and normally average around 24-26 MPG fairly easily. And similar size, and engine type.
But this is highly annoying intro.please remove it. on Infiniti QX30 First drive intro is ok or nothing like it used to be on your channel for a long time!
1:40 in this video, I'm actually surprised the Sportage you said a foot shorter than a Ford Explorer. I own both and it is actually 30+ inches of difference so check your facts
If you go back and watch the video again I said the Sorento was a a foot shorter than the Sportage. I was explaining that the Sportage is the compact entry while the Sorento is a tweener entry slotting between the Sportage and the Explorer.
Yes, but only a lightweight, travel type. A full size wheelchair can just fit in BUT leaves very little space for luggage. I'm waiting for the new Tiguan to compare.
David Wu if you don't like your mother in law, you put her all the ways in the back in an uncomfortable seat and far back that you don't have to look or talk to her. It's an American joke based on the stereotype that MIL are annoying and nagging.
Thank you for your explanation. I looked at the definition that it refers to the mother of your spouse, then your explanation makes sense. In China we have a similar stereotype albeit there is a slight difference: in most cases it's slightly easier for a man to get well along with mother of wife than for a women to deal with mother of husband.
I've seen this car in person at the Kia lot. I used to think it was ugly too, but actually it isn't half bad. And the more you look at it, the more it kind of grows on you. I think the color of this review car is atrocious, the white/red ones are infinitely better.
Terrible suspension. I regret buying it for almost 2 yrs. Don't spoil your money pls. These guys takes money to say good things. Finally it's your choice. Above all mileage is terrible too.
Sorry to hear. As Alex said, the ride is stiff & fuel economy is bad. Rogue, Forester & Crv (though I will avoid it bc of recent engine oil issue) are safe bets.
That front end design is really bad...nothing but a bunch of shapes thrown in with no real direction of concept...yuck! Kia, go study BMW, Merc, Audi a bit more...this is embarrasing!
Nobody does a more comprehensive review than you Alex, and the production value is second to none.
I have a fully loaded sx turbo awd with every option. I love it more than my previous BMW x5. The only drawback is fuel economy. Im getting 15-16 mpg in mixed driving, but I do have a heavy foot though.

Wow, KIA is stepping up it's game!
I literally said "OOOOOOO yes" when I saw this in my subscription feed
future62 me too ! 😂
Me too lol! I'm always like "OOOOOOO YAAASSSS BISH YAAAASSSS" for these videos LOL!
ARich YAAAAAAAS ! 😂
So much detail...Alex may have outdone himself! Nice review!
I just test drove the 2018 sx turbo yesterday and I really really loved it. It's a world of difference from the Honda crosstour I have now.
Excellent video Alex, you answer every question asked by someone doing a comparison, and you leave the final question --which looks the best-- up to the viewer to decide.
I like the presentation and review of every car you are covering very detailed, one of the best.
I really like how you added some comparison info to the competitors. Great idea!
Spending my Friday night catching up on Alex on Auto's when suddenly a new video appears. And for a car I might actually be interested in buying no less!
Daniel McKone Saturday?
I clearly said Friday. What are you referring to? ;)

Certified preowned. You can get a nearly new one with a long warranty for 15k and get more of the options that way.
im a Chevy guy but my ma just bought this and I gotta say its very impressive.
how does it compares with equinox?
Syed Farhaan Tariq Ali 10 grand cheaper thats for sure
you mean it's cheaper if compare to same trim levels? and as Alex said, is still offers more and better features then equinox for same trim level?
Syed Farhaan Tariq Ali Ya hers is beautiful has everything except turbo but thats really not needed
Goooooo Alex luv you out of all the car reviewers you're the best! Go Alex go go go!
Great video lots of info. Question what do you think about the Sportage being able to comfortably fit 3 car seats in its second row? 1 rear racing and 2 front facing to be exact.

Super comparaison. Excellent info. Very well made video.
Alex, you forgot to compare the Sportage to the Chevy Equinox, Mazda CX-5, and the GMC Terrain.
Matthew's Car Corner we didn't forget, as I said there isn't enough time to compare every entry
Alex on Autos Oh
How would you compare this to the 2017-19 Ford Escape? I just got a 2018 titanium and I think it really moves out with 2.0 turbo awd. It also feels like a sporty ride for this segment.
Hi Alex, what is the quietest compact SUV/compact luxury crossover?
the Exclusive Trunk comfort index gets me every time🤣😅
😂🤣
2017 RAV4 LE comes with safety sense (radar cruise, pre collision braking, lane departure with steering assist, etc.) standard, at just under 25k. The Sorento allows drivers to adjust the headrest up, down, back, and forward. The Sportage could use those headrests.
great video as always Alex. very informative. only need to figure out the dark background discrepancy
Hey Alex! Great review as usual. I was wondering if you were planning on reviewing the Corolla iM and other new Toyotas, which I would like to see. Thanks!
What vehicle is the next step up from this SX turbo, Alex? It doesn’t have many competitors except the Forester XT.
It would be nice to know how you would rate the acceleration and ride feel of the AWD EX trim with 2.4L engine and smaller wheels.
A subaru, REALLY? how much more boring and pathetic can you get.Loving my fully loaded sx turbo with awd.
+DanielSangster A Subaru that can kick your butt all day long, on and off road.
I wished you compared it to the CX5
he did
Alex will this vehicle be always shifting up/down going around minimum hilly terrain?
good work and great effort, I do like your work.
Didn't quite get the part about cabin noise, are you saying that wider tires will have less cabin noise or the other way around?
you should do retro reviews. I had a 2010 jeep commander that I would like your opinion on.
But front parking sensors only come at 30k. HIDs only come at 32k. I wouldn't really call that value, as these things are REALLY important in 2016.
Alex, can you put the timestamps in the video description for mobile watchers?
I'm amazed they still put the rear turn signal in that AWFUL place. At least they are Amber now
LGwasherFan Ageed- i wouldn’t buy because of that!
What about the Mazda CX-5?
You said the sportage lags at being the most fuel efficient in this segment but which vehicles make and model are the most fuel efficient in this segment?
What about the 2017 Acura MDX ? It should've been here around September
what does "sporty" mean? 25:00 The Cherokee should have came with the Aisin or ZF 8-speed. Anyone agree with me?
I don't
Chris Capaccio they would have to use the Aisin 8 speed because the ZF is mated to RWD vehicles only.
I thought ZF made one for FWD cars too. Huh.
Please do a new review on 2019 and or 2020 Sportage!
I had a '13 Kia Optima and had the same complaint about the headrests in the front seat - their rear-most setting was still too far forward, which became quite tiresome on a long ride.
Put the head rest down gezz
I wish you had done this vs cx5. :X
The turbo SX version of this car smokes the CX-5, but it is more expensive and the steering feel in the CX-5 might be better.
I have always been disappointed in their gas mileage. I have an Escape with a 2.0, and normally average around 24-26 MPG fairly easily. And similar size, and engine type.
I would say the Sorento is more like a Murano if it was available in a three-row option.
THAT INTRO MUSIC! I can't stand it
Tech Defender you can't please everyone :) it polled well on facebook
Then skip ahead. It's only 3 seconds for heaven's sake.
But this is highly annoying intro.please remove it. on Infiniti QX30 First drive intro is ok or nothing like it used to be on your channel for a long time!
I think the melody is fine, maybe change the instrumentation? The synth used here is slightly harsh. A smoother synth sound might work better :)
Who knew so many amateur music producers would offer their insight into Alex's intro theme music?
+Alex On Autos were you able to do the car seat test?
please do a full review of 2017 honda civic hatchback thanks
Alex, any chance to review the all new E300?? Please reply
2017 every Rav4 gets standard Toyota Safety Sense-P.
Please upload to full HD!
it takes some time after uploading to reflect as HD
it should be fine in a little bit
very good car...
nice design
Big hit in MPG with the AWD models.
This looks like original Porsche Cayenne turbo from the front
freakincrazy6932 I think that was the intention.
When are you going to review that Ford RS? :)
can you review kia carens 2017 top of the line model?
you’re honda cr-v image is the 2015-2016 one, not the 2017
Sporty is about handling. Mazda is the zoom, zoom brand b#cause do handling, not speed.perhaps a combo of speed&handling= sporty
omg you have nice new Car Prices
You made a typo in the video. You put Droid auto, it's supposed to be android auto
Tech Defender we've abbreviated it in that manner to save space.
Tech Defender He did that on the Corolla video also, a lot of folks call it Droid. I know what they mean, and mist viewers will.
Checking my insurance agent, even the non turbo version cost $1,100 more than the CRV. !!!!!
How is it with child seats?
1:40 in this video, I'm actually surprised the Sportage you said a foot shorter than a Ford Explorer. I own both and it is actually 30+ inches of difference so check your facts
If you go back and watch the video again I said the Sorento was a a foot shorter than the Sportage. I was explaining that the Sportage is the compact entry while the Sorento is a tweener entry slotting between the Sportage and the Explorer.
you mean Sorrento a foot shorter than the Explorer, not Sportage. You had it right in the video.
A 4 ban-her with bad mg? Ill take the mourno wi%h a V6 and:24Mpg combined.
No need for premium gas in the Sportage. Compensating for the lower fuel economy.
I'm gonna give myself until the end of the video to see if that face can grow on me
Everything is great about this car except the gas mileage sux big time.
Can you fit a folding wheelchair in to the Kia Sportage
Yes, but only a lightweight, travel type. A full size wheelchair can just fit in BUT leaves very little space for luggage. I'm waiting for the new Tiguan to compare.
rather to habe the tucson tho...
haha holds the road better than any cx-5? :,D good one
Why mother-in-law backseat? Somebody can explain a little bit?
David Wu if you don't like your mother in law, you put her all the ways in the back in an uncomfortable seat and far back that you don't have to look or talk to her. It's an American joke based on the stereotype that MIL are annoying and nagging.

This intro music is appalling. Can you please stop using it in your videos? Spoiling what are otherwise perfectly good car reviews!
the front looks like it just finished eating your newborn baby and is now smiling at you.
my god kia hit it with an ugly stick hard.
I've seen this car in person at the Kia lot. I used to think it was ugly too, but actually it isn't half bad. And the more you look at it, the more it kind of grows on you. I think the color of this review car is atrocious, the white/red ones are infinitely better.
John Howington I love the Sportage looks!
Ugly is gud numb nuts it's in ya face look at me I don't care , seen lots of gud looking cars that under the skin are shit boxes ,
Porches knock off
It's a shame the front is so ugly ):
Change the cheap cheesy intro music
Am I the only one who dislikes the cartoonish tiger nose grill esp. On this new Sportage? It looks awful.
jowowetan I love it
Joshua Rutter - I agree with you. I went to see it in person and it's beautiful!
Yes
Terrible suspension. I regret buying it for almost 2 yrs. Don't spoil your money pls. These guys takes money to say good things.
Finally it's your choice. Above all mileage is terrible too.
Chris Royale which car do you suggest then in similar price range.
I am planning for a used AWD 2.4, test drive was good.
Sorry to hear. As Alex said, the ride is stiff & fuel economy is bad. Rogue, Forester & Crv (though I will avoid it bc of recent engine oil issue) are safe bets.
@@CRVgarage no, NISSAN products now very downhill, including the rogue
Good God this is an ABOMINATION!
There's worse, much worse lol
KIA sportage VS Lexus NX F SPORT.
P.S, i dont like KIA
I hate toyota/lexus.!!
That looks disgusting
That front end design is really bad...nothing but a bunch of shapes thrown in with no real direction of concept...yuck! Kia, go study BMW, Merc, Audi a bit more...this is embarrasing!
former head of Audi design, Peter Schreyer is VP of Kia and head of design.......and he worked for BMW.
Those ice cubes led really ugly.
