Shimano MTB and road shoes with synthetic uppers will stretch laterally using a shoe stretcher, I have done this for years as I have a wide forefoot by 1: removing the liner 2: wetting the forefoot area of the shoe 3: taking the shoe stretcher up to tension 4: preheating my oven to 40deg cel. 5: placing the shoes in the now turned off, but heated oven and leaving over night. I have repeated the process with some shoes putting the stretcher further up into the toe area of the shoe.
I assume the synthetic material in the upper 'gives' under heat/tension and maintains its stretched form once cooled and the tension removed.

Put your shoes on a radiator indoors. When they are hot put them on, it helps the shoe to conform to your foot. Rinse and repeat until they feel right.

I can assure you that many cycling shoes do stretch. Every pair I've owned have stretched. I actually want this (because of feet issues) so I buy inexpensive shoes made of leather (or synthetic leather) and they form fit to my feet relatively quickly. Maybe if you buy really expensive shoes this won't happen, but to say it doesn't happen is just not correct.

I have a bunion on one foot and my brand new Izumi's (same size and style as the old ones, but newer) are causing severe point-pain on the top of the big toe joint. I'm getting one of those shoe stretchers from Amazon and I was wondering if I can stretch the width or perhaps the height just abit at that spot. Should I apply some hair dryer heat? Water?...something to have the material "give". (I just read kiwiauldphart's comment below and will give that a try but will leave my post in case anyone has other experiences.)

Too bad. I am a size 14 Wide. I have been to numerous shops in my area and found nothing but hurt. No one could come up with a size that fit, they all checked their computers, too. Any suggestions?

This video makea no sense...guy is clueless...he doesnt get it...if you have a wide foot and stretch the shoe to fit you will not end up with a loose fit you will have a shoe that now fits.
