  • Former apartheid president, FW De Klerk recently left a final message of farewell. This was released by the FW de Klerk Foundation after his passing at the age of 85. De Klerk died peacefully at his home in Fresnaye earlier this morning following his struggle against mesothelioma cancer. He is survived by his wife Elita, his children Jan and Susan and his grandchildren.

But I forgive him, because I see a human worthy of such.

Apology highly appreviated and accepted. You put your pride aside and decided to do the right thing of asking for forgiveness publicly. For that, I applaud you. The Bible says we must forgive 70X7, meaning 490 times.Of all your sins, this is the one erased from your heavenly record because you have confessed, asked for forgiveness, and repented publicly.."Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin". Psalm 32:5. Rest in peace Mr. F. W. De Klerk.

I am glad that he at last unequivocally apologized for the wicked system of apartheid. Hopefully for example Trump, Netanyahu, Putin, the leaders of the terrorist organizations, Lukashenko, the Cuban dictator, Kim Jong-un, and so many other leaders and ex-leaders will genuinely repent of their sins and evil deeds. R.I.P., F.W.de Klerk.

He's apologized many times since the 1980s and he ordered Nelson Mandela's released from jail in 1990. He ultimately worked to transform the political landscape from the minority White-led government to Black-led rule without large-scale bloodshed and he shared the 1993 Nobel Peace Prize with Mandela for their roles in the end of Apartheid.

    I am truly saddened 😔
It was really thoughtful of him to make this video for us. I know deep down that what he said was from his heart and it was genuine. I forgave him and all our oppressors a long time ago. And yes, when we take over from the EFFANC we will make sure that all South Africans (and that include Afrikaners) are treated equally. Afrikaners are South Africans and South Africa will always be their home.
The EFFANC agenda has no place in South Africa. God has rejected those thugs. South Africans can look forward to our promised land on the other side of this world judgement. That is a promise my fellow South Africans. Just be patient, God must be waited upon. I am truly saddened that Mr De Klerk will miss this milestone - I have always hoped that he would have an opportunity to behold our promised land.
Condolences to his family and friends. Farewell my countryman. May his soul Rest In Peace.

Why was the Video release after his death? If he was a humble man he should have shown himself apologising not in a form of ghost after all he wouldn’t be there to feel the reactions.
He gave in to democracy not because he wanted to but because it was TIME.
Yes I wouldn’t say we should not accept his apology but we not be fooled by his planned emotional speech and open our heart in the name of God for them to hurt us again.
The intention of this message as I see it is to protect the people he loves from the people he oppressed. Because he know we love God and that can be channel to fool us again.
People lets work hard, take what is rightful ours, never forget the past but should not live in the pain thereof.

Comments and mindsets like these are the very reason for the sustained racism in SA. You talj about “us and them” and how you are “people who love God”, but nothing in your comment supports any of your claims. Furthermore, you use your closing statement as a means to try to incite even more hate and division by “taking back what is rightfully yours”. Seriously?

This is more or less simply to protect a legacy, apology is good but sometimes meaningless if there are no visible impacts... you lot commenting on social media are not the ones who will understand what happened and why it's deeper than typing few words on UA-cam in support or against... 30 years ago is just gone around the corner.

He was ruthless in keeping us apart denying us our rights which is still prevalent amongst South Africans and Foreign Whites who have Benefitted from the wealth of this country. He must own up to his wrongdoings of the past, which he did many times over and does here again. He must also be credited as being instrumental in ending Apartheid. Even before he became president, he was influential in reforming the NP. As president, his entire 5 year term was a mission to end Apartheid and hold democratic elections. Many people (black and white) contributed to the end of Apartheid rule, and many have died, were exiled or imprisoned for that cause, but objectively, FW De Klerk was the person who made it happen, and on schedule too, despite the difficulties, including a 'war' that broke out between the ANC and IFP that killed 14 000. Also, when a 'bad man' becomes a 'good man', it commands almost more respect than someone who's always been a 'good man'... It is also worse for a 'good man' to become a 'bad man' than if someone's always been bad. The same goes for parties. Oliver Tambo's ANC became Jacobs Zuma's ANC and the truth is that's where your 'oppression and suffering' is coming from today - not from what was ended by De Klerk three decades ago.

Truly, this man was changed and for that I am glad. Rest in Peace President De Klerk. May your family find peace during this time. most of those who comment here neither lived through, nor at the time that apartheid’s presence put the literal boot on the backs and necks of Black men and women, that all those who were not white were unable to govern themselves. Should he be forgiven? i don’t think so, but it is for those who suffered and still deal today with what apartheid created economically, to choose for themselves if they can forgive.
