I am swelling with pride every time I hear this song. It was written by Nancy Jo Pinkston at Ball State University during the 1965-66 school year.
Nancy was a member of Kappa Tau Sigma , an AKA interest group , of which I was a member as well. BSU already had one Black sorority and it seemed that the administration thought that was enough (lol) The summer we graduated , 3 of us ( Carole Armstrong, Connie Jones and myself Susan Chavis were inducted into the Alpha Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The following year I appealed to National to help us navigate the bureaucracy and charter a chapter at BSU. Soror Ordie Roberts answered the call.
The outcome : The notable Beta Phi Chapter 💖💚💖.
