You are the best sewing teacher I have ever watched. Because you take time to explain every step in detail, I am able to follow and create new things I've never done before. Thank you Erica for being so great with your video tutorials. Hugs
I absolutely LOVE this precious little bag and have purchased the pattern and ordered two bundles of fat quarters from Stitches n Giggles. I am the assistant to the Editor of Classic Sewing magazine and have just recently been immersed in the wonderful world of sewing. I'm familiar with the needle arts industry (I designed patterns for Just CrossStitch magazine for years; I embroider, crochet and have recently learned to knit) but have never really learned to sew. I have a Janome machine I purchased years ago but I've NEVER used it. Thanks to you and my new job, that's changing. I'm a newbie sewist and this will be my first real attempt at making something. Thanks so much for your wonderful tutorials - you're awesome and I appreciate you sharing your God-given talents with the rest of us. Your tutorials and explanations make sewing sound and appear so easy - so much so that you've given me the courage to try this on my own. Thanks again! Keep up the good work and keep these great tutorials coming!
I made this and it worked out great. Your instructions were so easy to follow that I was easily able to change the measurements to suit my project. I divided the pocket in two and also added a seam along the bottom of the pocket to avoid losing small items inside the bottom of the pocket into the base. Thank you for a great tutorial.
A beautiful bag and wonderful tutorial. I am a complete beginner to sewing and this was my first attempt at adding fusible fleece and a simple quilting effect (squares). It took me a very long time to make due to the quilting and first construction. Obviously I rewound the video constantly.. I was nervous with the boxed corners and even they were ok. I am thrilled with the finished item. I would highly recommend this to complete beginners and would encourage anyone to have a go. I am British and am very envious of the quilting culture in the USA. Thank you for posting these tutorials.
I made a squishy drawstring project bag with your great tutorial and it turned out adorable! One of the best things is the way you organized the steps, with prepping everything first. That made it much easier to keep a flow, not having to stop and make the handle and casings, etc.
I have made this bag three times, now, and I find it’s easier each time. I really really appreciate your posting all of the dimensions, tools needed, where to get them if necessary, and how you explain everything thoroughly and in such a peppy way! Hope Jack is doing okay. Pat Berne
Your tutorials are nothing short of AWESOME....I check almost daily. You usually have sizes IN your video....should have checked below...lol...thank you - again! One of my granddaughters needs a pull string tote for her Gymnastics....this one "Awesome!"
I love your tutorials! I've been obsessed with project bags lately and I've watched a dozen videos. I'd like one with a zipper top, box bottom and inside pocket. I was watching this and I love it so I thought well just do a zipper and put the pocket on the inside but then wait...lining! I love the little handles you put on the side
I made this bag with your tutorial. It's only the 2nd time I've ever used a sewing machine . Great instruction. Awesome bag! I wish I could share it with you!
I have just made this bag for my daughter in law. She wants to use reusable baby wipes so this is ideal to store them all in. Thank you for a great tutorial. :-)
Another fabulous idea Erica. I am going to make two for my friends little granddaughters who are taking a long plane trip. I will fill it with travelling goodies for them. Just what I wanted. Thanks.
Erica I LOVE your bags and tutorials! I have made 3 of the Squishy Project Bags and just made the Drawstring with a Pocket one! I can't stop making them.
I ALWAYS get excited when its any type of sewing tutorial from you girl!!! LOL Not only do you explain every step, but it's always so cute!! BTW your fabric choices are always the cutest!!!
I absolutely love every video of yours that I've watched so far! I've never been a crafty person, but I've now made so many beautiful things thanks to your easy to follow tutorials and encouraging personality. Thank you and please keep them coming!
Hi, I'm sorry your lining was too large, not sure why it worked out that way. Make sure to do the same seam allowance for your lining as your outside and you should be fine. If it's still too large you can do a bit more of a seam allowance for the lining than the outside bag and that should help.
This is great. Such a good idea to put a pocket on the outside for the knitting pattern. I've tried putting the patterns in with the yarn but they just get a bit screwed up so an outside pocket would hopefully mean that the pattern stays in hood condition.
WOW!! This Is Fantastic!!! I Love It... I Can't Wait To Go Pick Me Some Material Out.... It Looks Fun To Make One.... Thank You... I'm Glad I Came To Your Podcast... Thumbs Up.... !! I Love The Material You Pick Out.... 😁👏👏☝😊☺❤
I have been trying to come up with a diaper wipes bag for the kids when they don't want to carry along a large diaper bag and I think this would be perfect. the pockets would hold any little extras but I think this would be large enough to put in a few diapers along with a wipes container.
Thank you Erica for sharing. Very nice project.. I love the way you did the box corners. Mine have always been off some so I think this should help alot.. 👍👍😊
Very nice. I know what you were talking about when you mentioned those little things that you fold out of paper and you move your fingers this way and that.
Can you please tell me what the little handle is for? I just made this for my wife who recently took up knitting, and she was curious. She loves the bag and was very touched I made it for her. Thank you for the tutorial. Unfortunately, as a brand new sewer, it took me WAY longer than one hour...LOL
I am going to try this.. thankyou. .but I was wondering if you think that cotton canvas fabric would work for this bag as well...it isn't the tough canvas ..it has a little softness to it ..??
Yes, you can use canvas as well! You may not need to add in batting or interfacing if you're using cotton, you'll just want to experiment to see how thick it is with/without then go from there.
The paper game is called Fortune tellers or Chatterbox one site called it. Had so many of those as a kid. lol Love the bag. I will have to make a few of those for the kids for Christmas. It is time after all to start our Christmas projects.
Love the fabrics, I have some of that range. LOVE the drawstring casing , this is best one I've seen! I make these a lot, different methods, but definitely going to try this bag! Thanks Erica. I'm not great at meandering though😂, needing more practice!!
Just made two lovely bags! I would just mention the batting needs to be very thin!!! I could see yours was. But trying to go thru all the layers with regular batting did not work and I ended up having to painstakingly cut the batting out in the corners. But otherwise, it was great!
Aw thanks so much for sharing your awesome tutorial! I’m not into sewing yet, but I will be at some point and I’m really looking forward to coming back to these great tutorials you upload!
Those folded things were "fortune tellers". You'd write a fortune under the flaps and had another person say a number and you'd do what you did in the video by moving the points that number of times. The fortune was under the flap at that end count. Anyway, good tutorial. I'm a beginner so you make it very easy to follow and understand each step.

How fun, I hope you enjoy the tutorial!

The bobbin winding intermission was brilliant 💕
We called them "fortune tellers". The boys used them to catch bugs. Love your videos!

I used your tutorial to make a little camping bag to carry my personal items in. Thank you for the easy instructions.
You are so talented ! Hope your man knows how lucky he is !!
I love your tutorials. One great thing I’ve learned from you (many others) is to cut all your fabric before starting to sew! Gorgeous fabric!
She does have your eyes! What a cutie !!!

The fabric is so cute...your instructions, the info left in print was wonderful!! The best!!
I finished this bag and absolutely love it. Going to make more for Granddaughter’s fundraiser to a missions trip.
I am one of those people who like to stretch my comfort zones..this did..and following you on the video made it a sinch!

Hi Karen, did you see the one I released today? ua-cam.com/video/eVAKOZIN7Z0/v-deo.html
Using skate laces for the drawstring works very well. Thank you for a great tutorial.
Thank you for this wonderful video. I also thought the bobbin winding intermission was brilliant!
Just keepin' it real LOL! :)

I made this bag with your tutorial. It's only the 2nd time I've ever used a sewing machine . Great instruction. Awesome bag! I wish I could share it with you!

I absolutely love every video of yours that I've watched so far! I've never been a crafty person, but I've now made so many beautiful things thanks to your easy to follow tutorials and encouraging personality. Thank you and please keep them coming!
Apart from lining being way too big ( next time I'd change that) I love it and the instructions. Super thanks

@@erica_arndt Decided to redo the lining and take in a bit extra - it's good now.
Great looking bag easy to make
I was in a hurry last week. I quilted the outer and lining together. It worked fine, but better with lining done separately
OMG😊! I love your tutorial! I watch so many and they sometimes skip steps and leave me hanging! Thank you 💗
Great tutorial, very clear directions, and I love the addition of a pocket to your drawstring bag!
Made this today and it turned out perfect! Thank you so much for an easy to follow tutorial!!!

This is great. Such a good idea to put a pocket on the outside for the knitting pattern. I've tried putting the patterns in with the yarn but they just get a bit screwed up so an outside pocket would hopefully mean that the pattern stays in hood condition.
Loved your bobbin break - and of course the rest of the video!

Can you please tell me what the little handle is for? I just made this for my wife who recently took up knitting, and she was curious. She loves the bag and was very touched I made it for her. Thank you for the tutorial. Unfortunately, as a brand new sewer, it took me WAY longer than one hour...LOL
jfinney75 my guess would be so you can hang it on a hook.
I use mine to carry it or hang it on a hook I suppose :) It's just a little addition, you can skip it if you like!
I always forget to add it. They are still loved. It’s actually a "handle" to grab when closing the zipper. Good for you, sewing for your wife
love this bag! will use it for my knitting.
I did it!!! Its so dang cute!!!! I love my drawstring squishy bag...Thank you so much for this tutorial! I wish I could send you a picture of mine!

Can't wait to make one (or more!) of these. Where do you get the fabric? I couldn't find the link. Thanks!
Such a cute bag, btw, we called them "cootie catchers"😄
