Just before Christmas we get this chart from Our Cloud View. Nice Tune handles so cool and hep from our Buddy. Ofcourse Buddy did more than Soft Winds he demonstrated a Full Wind Storm. nice and above all it showcases our Buddy with his talented musicians. Merry Christmas to our Cloudview. keep the Buddy Coming your Buddy. BOOM
Buddy, great as always here showing he could support the band as well as dominate. The bassist (Chris White) really tore it up! He really pushed that upright to the outer limits here very progressive...I have to look him up he's fantastic and looked like he was really diggin' jammin' with Buddy. As a former bassist (now drummer) I can't imagine how awesome it must have been to jam with Buddy trading fours especially in this smaller group where the interaction is more musically intimate. One can only imagine...
Having heard/seen "I Remember April", I'd love to see whatever other videos exist of this series. Hope that becomes possible. Thanks for posting this one!
According to the BR discography Buddy first appeared on Mark of Jazz 9/18/74, and played Billie's Bounce and Four, plus did a vocal. I have never heard of any collector that has it unfortunately.
Awesome stuff. Thanks for posting. On the Mike Douglas Show, it is amazing how plays impeccable and so effortlessly. Do you have any videos of Buddy Rich from Buddy's Place in NY. I think Count Basie and Illinois Jacquet guested there when the second club first opened.
I was @ Buddy's Place when Basie and Jacquet sat in. My friends dad slipped the maitre d some bucks to seat us. We were 15 at the time. I'll never forget it. Amazing night.
Yes. Also saw Buddy @ Barney Google's around the same time. Was blessed to have seen Buddy perform at least 30 times in NY between 1974 and 1986. Met him twice.
Thanks. Full details: Sid Mark's "Mark of Jazz" WHYY-TV, PBS Philadelphia, PA December 11, 1974Buddy Rich- d Kenny Barron- p Jack Wilkins- g Chris Woods- as Chris White- b
Hey Andy. I just heard back from Ralph Cooper. Unfortunately this audio track will have to just remain as it is, can't be fixed. It's sad because I feel almost certain my copy of this video was deliberately sabotaged. The collector I got it from many years ago became known (notorious) for being of the "elite collector" mindset, where he would make sure only he had the pristine copy.
Kenny Barron, (p) Jack Wilkins (g) Who is on alto and bass? Seems the original Buddy's Place lineup changed. No Nistico, Fortune, or congo player JImmy_____?

I agree Ray. This video is a wonderful example of our Buddy laying it out beautifully with talented musicians to deliver a smooth groove!
Always love watching Buddy in small group settings. Thanks for putting this up.
I too enjoy seeing Buddy in small group settings. It demonstrates that he was about supporting, to create great music, more than anything else.
I was there in Philadelphia WHYY Studio ‘ Public Broadcasting
Do you mean living in Philly, or you were there in the studio when this was filmed?

I figured only hardcore buddy fans would know stuff like that. Thanks again cloudview!!
My pleasure.

Beautiful! Thanks! :-)
I agree! And you are welcome.
The version of "I'll Remember April" on the BR Jazz Legend video isn't complete, although as you might expect the video and audio quality are good.
Great 👍
😊
I remember buddys album the cinch being similar to this.
Yes.

That had to be some night. That video would be priceless. Do you remember what tune they played? That's like recreating Jazz at The Philharmonic.
I remember they did jumpin' at the woodside and at least one other but I can't recall.
Thanks cloudview for all you do posting vids of buddy. Have you heard of the cinch album?
Yes, thanks, I know about the Cinch album!

Pretty sure it's Chris Woods on alto
One of my favorites I have literally worn out CDs listening to that recording !
Isn't it 'I remember April' in the documentary?
Yes it is.
Interesting Slingerland drumset.
Looks kind of silver.
How is it the bass player got to not only wear a different shirt than the rest of the band, but a color that stood out more than Buddy?
