I thought about that this morning. Are the decreases in amount or packaging included in inflation calculations?
      I don’t think so.

the number of people in the comment section who think 1.6% inflation means prices are dropping is disturbing. and what is more disturbing is these people can vote. god bless Canada

That’s interesting. Most stuff I buy is up about 30% than it was 3 years ago.

That is because you were not govt published stats to reach those conclusions.
If the Govt says inflation is down, then it must be down. Govts always speak the truth.😅😅😅

Inflation is how much more prices keep going up
Yes, the extreme price increases cost many products to become more expensive
However the rate at which prices keep moving up is slowing down

I hope the housing market stays sluggish for a real long time so income can catch up. We need a much healthier income to 🏘 price ratio in Canada.

I went to a large chain store that very well known last week for 3 common items, 2 of which items are that stores bands. I walked out with nothing when I noticed they had up the price of all 3 items. Inflation or no inflation, companies are greedy and if the pandemic has thought us anything, they need to be heavily monitored with stricter regulations and guidelines to crack down on price gouging. I literally want these companies to have to show where every single cent goes and it to be regulated because I feel none of them can be trusted anymore. It’s awful to feel costly regulations are needed in place to stop corporate greed on necessities such as groceries. But I do feel that way, unfortunately.

    • @nickstark8479

Because a 1.6% inflation rate means prices are (generally) still going up, not down 😅
To see prices go down, you'd want a negative inflation rate.... which are quite rare.... And technically could be quite damaging for the economy if sustained across many years.

I think buyers are waiting for more rate cuts. and houses are really expensive and wages have not kept up, so maybe the rate cut doesnt really matter. Then there's the stress test, which throws healthy cold water all over everyone.

How about a story comparing MREL and the new kid on the block; RMAX? You had a story on MREL a while ago ( and I own some), and now there is RMAX. I bought the same $$ amount of RMAX as I have MREL and am going to see how they compare over a year: distributions and total returns... Their portfolios are pretty similar.

A lot of commenters don’t understand the reason the items you purchase are more today than a few years ago is that even though inflation % is low it still means prices rise per year. Deflationary is when prices would go down, but this has a massive effect on the economy with lowering GDP and causing massive job loss. This is recessionary. Inflation at a controlled rate is good and means the economy is growing.

  • @cuybueno
    @cuybueno 6 годин тому +1

Yeah, the inflation is decreasing but it is because the economy is shrinking.

heard a similar ( but of course not as enjoyable ;) ) story on CBC today. groceries have gone up ~20%. since covid, basically. That's the one all of us notice. and it's not like groceries are going down in price, just maybe slowing down. I still maintain it is a covid reaction and 'They' are taking advantage of the situation, I've heard 'covid related costs' so may time now....whoever 'they' are, you know...the guys in Black. It's enough to make a government fall...

. Who are we lying to... Anyone use these headline numbers knows the truth... Everyone in Canada feels it.. inflation number is the rate of change... Yet is still changing higher... Everyone is still on prices not long ago . Oh how much it will change in a few years

What is driving an unexpectedly low inflation rate? Decrease in consumer demand. In tandem with the high unemployment rate, the low inflation rate strongly signals for recession.

While both investments promise significant returns, I prefer mutual funds for their liquidity. I recently read about an investor who made $350,000 in just months from stocks, and I’m eager to learn which strategies he used.

You need to understand how inflation is calculated and reported. Inflation down doesn’t mean prices are lower
