Ohtani is just so good for baseball overall. He's brought so many more fans to the sport, especially internationally. I'm a Yankee fan for 30 years but he's my favorite non-Yankee player to watch and I'm always rooting for him as long as he's not doing it against us.
Most DH’s aren’t in conversation to win MVP because there value is lower than position players. Ohtani however is rare exception because his hitting brings a lot of value. The man led the AL in offensive WAR last year and if he does something similar again I think it would be hard not to consider Ohtani for MVP. Granted Mookie is still the favorite but what Ohtani is doing offensively should be recognized.
The top 2 WAR overall in baseball right now is... Ohtani's in 2nd at 2.6, and Mookie at 1st with 3.3. Crazy! If Shohei SOMEHOW has the highest WAR in baseball by the end of the season, how can they not give it to him?
@@nobeardthepirate9172 Ohtani would have higher war if he played defence, DHs get really penalized with war, they wrack up negative defence, and have a negative weighing on offence. If Ohtani puts up equal (or more) WAR compared to his peers as a DH then he can certainly win the MVP. It’s insane the value Ohtani is providing at the DH position.
Yes, there are skate parks everywhere Trev, but the Skate park of tampa (SPOT) has been having one of th biggest skate contests every year for 30+ years. The tampa am and pro contests are HUGE in the skate world. Not just because there is a skatepark.
Not to mention all of the other skate parks that we have in the area, it’s an area that’s very promoting of unconventional culture like skating, music, and art. Thanks for mentioning this!!
It's literally in a Tony Hawk Underground game! Also, St. Pete (NOT Tampa) opened one of the first public skate parks in the entire nation back in the 70s. Big skate history in the area.
I’m wishing for Shohei to make some relief appearances late in the season and end up with a stat line of .330 55HR 130RBI and 5 Saves with a 1.35 era. First relief pitcher with an MVP!
that skatepark in tampa holds a huge contest thats been there since the 90s. its more than just a skatepark its known for the tampa am contest, its a huge event for skateboarders
The Mason Black story is cool. Dude is from Scranton(2 1/2 hours away from Philly) grew up a Phils fan. As a Phils fan part of me feels bad he got touched up late lol but hey he struck out Harper and he got taken deep by Harper.
Shota imenaga is my lwk move, he had some hype but he has been crazy good. Way better than any other Japanese player besides ohtani.( you could argue they are very close in impact, but ohtani is just That GUY)
He won’t win not because he’s a DH but because he’s not that great. He will never win the MVP because there’s others who are far better deserving to win the award.
I like Ohtani as a player, but come on, he has to be in the field in some way to be MVP. I know hitting is exciting and all, but you can't seriously consider someone to be the MVP of a whole team when he's not out there during an entire half of every game when everyone else on his team takes the field. When he's both pitching and hitting like he has before, I think he's for sure in consideration for MVP. But only as a DH he can't seriously be an MVP.

Uh if Ohtani continues like this he will absolutely win mvp as a dh. We're watching what could be the greatest to ever play the game smack dab in the middle of his prime. Sit back and enjoy the show. As for MVP, just depends on how much sabermetrics play a part I suppose. The counting stats will be there, maybe the fWAR wont.

I agree about the home run record with Ohtani. That's the only way he gets it, and I think he will. He has a good chance to even break the questionable records.
I got a big secret for you fellas. Defense doesn't matter in the face of amazing offense . This is baseball. He is contributing to his team more than anyone else. Enough with the lame ass rules.
Will it be difficult for Ohtani to get MVP? Yes, yes it will. But thats true for everyone else as well. Now, I do agree that voters do get fatigued when voting for the same person over and over.
