Great Video - Doing my first photo etch on a 1:200 ship model and in awe of how small some of the photo etch is and the demands it places to both see it and handle it. Your video is the detailed on the topic.
Man I'm getting back into modeling Dr. Orders . LoL but ii have learned more on your podcast I really think you for your details teaching god bless. Chris from NC.
I agree about using the sandpaper over the file. Taking of a little at a time is better to control than taking off a lot in one or two passes. Less chance of taking off too much. Great video too!
OK,thank you for the testing!!I tried using various knives and pliers, but none of them could cut the stainless steel PE well, and some of the tools even had broken blades. I definitely gonna buy this!Xuron cutter!!!
Good video. I would like to offer my experience with a diamond file. I have a Tamiya file that works very well. I find it doesn’t chatter but rather cuts fast with very little resistance. It works much better than any of the 2 dozen needle files I own or any sanding stick. A very fine sanding stick offers little resistance but is slower removing material. Another positive with the Tamiya file over a sanding stick is it is much easier to see the PE part while removing the nub. A sanding stick gets in the way of seeing. The file was kinda pricey but well worth it. I am rarely disappointed with Tamiya tools.
Great video Will. One word of caution, those Xuron photo etch cutters are extremely sharp. I have impelled my finger many times with the point of them.
Those Infini cutting guides are great tools, I use the back of mine with a#16 blade just like you say. Nice video, useful tips. Ive been wondering about those shears for a while.
nibs are easy to get rid of if you hold it as close to the edge in tweezers and run it over a honing stone no chatter and you can wear it right down and dont need to do anything after
@@barpfoto no i understand you were showing the technique to do it so you end up with a clean cut with no need for clean up but every now and then fuckups happen i was just sharing a way to fix those fuckups that gives a good result that is easy on the photo etch at the same time
Will, do you have a public email address I could use to send you a short message? I didn't see anything on this channel's About page. I don't have a Facebook account. Thanks.
The most dangerous situation is when you don't know what you don't know. My 21 minute investment in this video just reduced my danger quotient significantly. Thank you very much!
Mr. Pattison, you probably will come to understand in time what you're looking at down the road; yes, you can claim having a PE nub is a mistake and you don't like to make mistakes, but you know what? No one does, and I guarantee you, as you AGE your vision will play tricks on you and even with an Optivisor on, glasses with high magnification and Xuron PE cutters you WILL have difficulty gauging range of depth as you zero in on a piece of PE. It happens to me every time I go through this and there is NO escaping aging vision, not even by increasing magnification. Misjudging depth perception will be more and more a factor as you do this sort of work. I know you are quite a bit younger than I am, judging on what you look like in your video introductions so accommodating the tools and having the visual capability to negate the nub removal factor is conceivable and even possible. But just you wait...

Love the reference that PE is your friend thanks to Ian at On The Bench podcast , if that was a slight dig 🤣 Love ya work. Keep it coming..

Thanks Will, great use of tools properly to make a clean cut with no additional work on the photo etch piece....
Thats a great one ! Got a bunch of etched rolling stock kits waiting... so thanks a lot for this info.

Brilliant video and so much common sense as always.
Good video.

Great video Will. I have lots of difficulty working with this material.
All logical stuff Will. Tips like these are really useful, as they're only obvious when you 𝑘𝑛𝑜𝑤 about them.👍👌😁
Great video, very informative. Thank you.
Your just too cool dude !
Great video Will, also thanks for subscribing to my little channel. Much appreciated.
Every time I see your face it costs me money 😁
That is sure right, oh a new tool......

Stainless steel is called stainless die to it's resistance to acid corrosion, not rust resistant abilities as is commonly thought
How can I send a message to Will Patinson re models?

I use cuticle scissors. They follow the contour well and catch the nib cleanly.
you just really missed the whole point here, didn't ya?

Cut without making any nibs.....

I use my Tamiya side cutter to cut the brass PE.
The fine pointy one.

304 is magnetic and does rust,316is not magnetic and more rust resistant
Shite...more money spent on new cutters🤬
