This is perfect for my fishing channel. I never know when a strike will happen. Being able to loop record like this will allow me to save memory space and still never miss the good parts. Its like clipping something that happens on stream, but live!! NICE! Thanks for the clear and concise explanation with no fluff!
@@EatSleep360 Unfortunately now Im reading this camera overheats easily. Ugh. I need to record for up to 8 hours sometimes.
Only one on whole YT who explains it in Detail. Too bad it does not let you choose a) bigger chunks than 1m and b) max length is limited to 30m.
Thanks for the Video!
Thanx Rich. I can always count on you to really break down how functions work. It's a great and easy camera to use, but it's nice jumping into new features with some knowledge from someone who has tested it.
Thanks Rich, nice overview, great to know the limitations as well.. I'll be using the loop record to cover my daily commutes and other journeys on my motorcycle. Great to have in case of accidents or just something interesting happening.
Love the way you explain things! Thanks!
I was wondering if I would ever find a use for Loop recording but now I know!!! I film myself Carp fishing and am always trying to film a surface 'take' of my bait... I can now use loop and save wading thro lots of footage! Thanks Rich , you may have changed my post editing for life!!!
Thanks for the tips on when to use the loop!
Thankyou so much for such easy explanation ❤
Thanks Rich. Your explanation is again the most detailed about a new feature on the web. You answer every single question about the new feature.
Hi Mike, great explanation, can be useful for me during skiing session indeed 👍
I appreciate the info. Definitely will help me with my dashcam footages now💪
Excellent explanation! Now I know what it is. Thanks!
Thanks for the explanation!
Thanks for the good information, and I enjoy the fact that it sounds like Holly from Red Dwarf explaining my camera features to me.
😂 that’s a new one, I’ll add it to the list of people I’ve been compared to. Thanks for watching and for the comment
thank you for this explanation!!!!!
My old Drift Ghosts had a feature like loop recording that worked great for when I’m fishing.
Loop recording will be great too.
Get the bite, fight, and land, then stop to capture the whole thing
My drift had this brilliant 👏
Great video yet again Rich. What is the camera mount you're using inside your car?
It’s a new dashboard mount from Ulanzi and it’s sold by insta360 on their site
May i ask you also to give me the link for bluetooth device to manage insta? I would like to use it for my insta360 x3 incase it is suitable. Thank you very much for the detailed video!
The loop recording is great, I can now use the Insta OneR better on my motorcycle, working as motorcycle instructor filming the new motorcycle pupils, and if I have something to show, stop and start recording... using the 4K mod and basic settings it records max a 1 min file in mp4 format that I can view on a PC by connecting the camera to the PC without having to export it using the app...
Great feature again. it just gets better and better.
Insta360 could complement its features though by having a sort of tagging feature like the drift ghost cameras.. continuously looping and only saving a specified number of seconds before you hit the tag button on the camera or remote, a number of seconds as from the push on the tagging button, and another number of seconds to continue... i.e. when I tag an event, and the tagging is set to 10 seconds; it will record 10sec before, 10 sec now and Continue another 10 sec..
Thanks for the comment, yes the tagging is a good idea. I would love to see a buffer record as you say where it records the past 10-30 seconds - that would be really useful
Do you know why in loop recording I can’t zoom in/out of footage (in app at least, haven’t gotten to pc yet)
Thanks, can I ask is it seamless? Or is there a noticeable jitter when the minute rolls to the next?
My priority is MC & Car dash cam portability, between the two. Must have these three. 1) 360 or front rear. 2) GPS & Date Stamp. 3) Loop Mode. I'm willing to pay for quality. Just too much poor quality out there. Any Suggestions??? Thanks.
I am just wondering about battery life if i use it as dashcam and need to travel for 4hrs journey and it can only record for 1 hr straight then it will turn off right ??
Will loop recording help prolong battery life?
May I ask if you loop record, would it only record up to the preselected duration? If you set it to 5 minutes and come into a moment you wish to record for 20 minutes, would I need to be sure to hit the start-stop button every 5 minutes in order to keep it from deleting footage?
If you set to 5 minutes it will record over itself every 5 minutes - if you want to record longer then set it to a longer duration or press stop and start every 5 minutes
Do you think they will bring out a pre-event recording mode so that it records up to a minute before you press record.
I haven’t heard anything but this is something I would love to see on all their cameras - even a 30sec buffer would be useful
What mount are you using to put it in the car? Is it just 3m tape?
Because when i put mine on the windshield it randomly drops after 30mins due to loss of glass suction
I use the Ulanzi quick release dashboard mount that you get from insta360 and I’ve also got the pgytech single cup suction mount which goes on the window. I’ve made a video on that here ua-cam.com/video/Go95hGHY1Jg/v-deo.html
Cool! I have the Insta360 One X. Will loop recording be coming to that?
I haven’t heard anything - it’s worth posting on their Facebook group and tagging them, the more people they can see want it the more likely it is to happen
If I am fishing how would I set it to loop only to record the hookset and the catch? I can't seem to get my head around this ,,THX
So consider how long it would take the whole process of hookset and catch - say 15min (max). You can set it longer or shorter but set it slightly longer than you think. It will then continuously record for 15min over and over so in theory once you have finished bringing the fish in you then press stop and you will have captured the whole process. You then have to remember to take it out of loop record otherwise you may record over what you’ve shot - I’m not sure if it starts a new clip you’ll have to experiment as I haven’t used it enough. My preference would be to use pre record which records a buffer then as soon as you get a bite you press record and then it will start recording and also record everything that happened 30 seconds before. The X3 has this but I’m not sure on the other cameras. I need to do some more tests on this myself. It’s a great question though - sign up to my newsletter letter and I’ll be sure to include this in a future Q&A video. eatsleep360.ck.page/ You can also reply to the newsletter and message me directly via email. Hope this helps. Don’t reply to this comment as I don’t see replies. Thanks, Rich
rich can you start loop recording when camera is plugged in power supply?
I haven’t tried it but I assume you can as you’d need to do this for long journeys
Was hoping it would already have been added to the One X2 by now.....
At the 0:03 sec time mark, you said that it was coming to the X2. Am I missing something as my cam doesn't have the loop recording feature? It's Sept 2022...?
It was meant to come to the X2 - must have changed their mind for some reason
Hi, ty for the info. One thing in trying to find out about loops recording is...
Say I'm on a 2 hour drive, my loop is set to say 5 minutes, and something happens that i want to keep. Is there a way to save that 5 minute loop and have the camera start a new 5 minute loop so it doesn't record over what i want to keep.. If that makes any sense. Cheers!
You’d have to experiment as I haven’t tried it but I think if you stop recording and then start again it will start a new 5 min loop so you’ll have the previous record me saved
@@EatSleep360 thanks for the reply. I don't know if it helps anyone, but insta just confirmed that stopping a loop and starting again does indeed preserve the previous loop, and you can use voice command to do those actions, perfect for hands free dashcam use
I want to know if the Insta360 One R can be connected directly to a power bank via cable charger so that it can be used to record continuously like a real dashcam? Thank you.
Yes it can and you can then use loop record which records in certain file lengths and then records over the files so you don’t run out of card space.
@@EatSleep360 thank you. I’ll try it. I hope the camera doesn’t get too hot for long rides.
Hi I noticed you haven’t review the insta360 one r 4k and 1inch mod for underwater scuba photography and videography. I’m struggling with how it perform underwater (below 15m). Everything was blown out I wish I still have the video to show you but it was can’t be salvage. I really need a help on the tips and tricks since I feel like giving up already.
Well even at 10m it was really bad. And the aqua Vision is not helping at all.
I don’t do any underwater filming sorry - it may be best to post this question on the insta360 Facebook page
Any idea when this will be added to the X2?
I’m not sure - it’s worth putting the question on their Facebook community page and tagging them
I can't connect to my phone unless I'm at home please help
Not available in x2?
I thought when I use loop recording I would save space on my microSD card because it would only be recording for short time and then recording over it. What's happening with my camera is I am recording using the three minute setting. Let's say I am fishing. When I catch a fish I will press stopped and start again. I might do this three times because I caught three fish. When I'm done I will have short three minute clips of me catching those fish but I will also have very big files where the camera continue to record on the microSD card. So I will have three small files with three minutes on it and I would have three large files with the length of time between when I started and stopped the recording. It's not saving anything by copping over a recording. It's recording everything plus giving me extra short files. Also, sometimes it will stop recording and say I have a slow speed card and need to reformat it. I have the correct card and correct speed. I formatted in the camera. I never had a camera that would stop like this. I had to send the first one back because it would turn off by itself and then would not come back on unless I took the batteries out and put them back in. I love the stabilization and the small size but this is becoming my least favorite camera.
You’re not the first to mention this so I think it must be a bug with the feature or with the one r - I’ll have to do some tests - thanks for the comment
Unsuccessful with trying this new feature.... OVERHEATING shuts the camera down after about 30 minutes....I tried reducing the resolution to 4k but that only increases recording to about 45 minutes. Using as a dash cam in a air-conditioned car.... anyone else with this issue?
Mine gets crazy hot but doesn’t shut down even after 2 hours but I haven’t tried it longer than that
I wanna know what happened to the promised 3D 180° upgrade
@@EatSleep360 that's why I bought it tbh. It was gonna be the perfect set up with that. Hey ho

Have Insta360 commented on why you can't tell if something is recording when using the roadie remote? LED Light?
They are just feeding it back to their development team - it’s not a fault it just wasn’t thought of
@@EatSleep360 thank you so much for the reply!!stay healthy and thank you for all the great videos/tutorials/advice
1 min sucks though
Yeah, it's an odd way of doing it. Some cameras use internal memory, which they then dump onto a file when you press "stop", but maybe Insta doesn't have enough of it? But if the files are seamless (?) it shouldn't matter too much.
Yes I need to check how seamless it is. What would be great is a buffer record so you can hit record and then it records the previous 1 minute as well from the internal memory like you say.
When I do this I get an audio drop out for the last 2 frames if each section. As a result you get a “click” as it plays 🤔
That’s interesting- I haven’t played an entire joined up loop back but that will probably be the same. It’s worth posting that on the camera insta360 Facebook group and tagging videos insta360 - the more people that tag them with issues like this the more likely they will fix it
