Basset Hound, Blue Gascony Basset and Norman Artesien Basset are the three short-haired Basset breeds that exist today.
All three have a common origin and come from short-legged dogs in France that were used to hunt rabbits and hares.
From these original Basset-type dogs, the different Basset breeds were generated.
The Basset Hound originated in Great Britain from Basset hounds imported from France.
The Norman Artesien Basset originated from the union of the Artois Basset and the Norman Basset.
Finally, the Blue Gascony Basset originated from its ancestor of greater size, the Blue Gascony Hound and therefore comes from the ancient region of Gascony, located in the south of France.
