Seemed to be aimed very low for med. students. And an ileostomy is not a colostomy.

Sure, happy to. It's on our to-do list, but don't know when we can get it out. Thanks for the suggestion!

i think that when the small bowel are opened to the skin its called ileostomy rather than colostomy, colostomy is when the large bowels are opened to the skin. :)

Thank you! As a surgical tech student, this was very helpful to get a clear and simple explanation of this.

can you make a video for bariatric surgery procedures? there's more of those than colon resection types.

    Hi,
We use Microsoft Onenote as the program, but use a pen tablet to draw instead of the mouse. If you're interested in helping out, let us know!

Any tips for long term colon health after surgery? A few years ago, I had about 12" - 14" inches on the left side or sigmoid removed because of diverticulitis. Had complications right after surgery----leaking fluids, possibly the mended area coming apart? They had to do emergency surgery to put a colostomy in----then 10 months later, reversed that. THREE surgeries. Now, it's good for the most part----but with occaisional constipation or if I eat something that doesn't agree with me----I sometimes get pain on the left side and worry that it's starting all over again. Any dietary tips? Also, does straining to go threaten breaking the area that was reconnected? Would hate to have to get more surgery so trying to figure a preventative way to keep things healthy. I can sort of feel that things were moved around in there.

I had the same procedure that you had but thankfully did not have complications after surgery. My surgeon has advised me to eat a high fiber diet along with 2 tablespoons of psyllium husk dissolved in liquid for the rest of my life. He also advised I drink at least 64 ounces of water or liquid every day. So far this has worked well for me with no constipation or pain issues. Good luck and please eat a healthy diet with plenty of liquid and the supplemental fiber for long term colon health. God bless you!
