Ya no doubt started watching his stuff a while ago can’t remember but I’m a fender guy so the content is awesome dig his music as well 👍nice comments you can see he digs it.
I like your content, especially cause you are easy to listen to, not to mention your monster playing chops. I have 2 1963 Fenders, so it's nice to hear about how to appraise the condition of the vintage instruments. Thanks for your efforts.
Like the videos on "looking under the cover" of the treasures you come across .Your live video , you did a great job . It was a fine performance . Sometimes ... artists can highly critical of themselves .IMHO . ✌
Always love seeing people taking care of older guitars! Especially the older Stratocaster. It is really rare to find some of those anymore. There’s an 1986 bullet telecaster at my local guitar center for only $260, and a couple of 1980 Lead II series strats, along with a beautiful 1990s Fender Stratocaster with a pink with floral design finish on it (my mom really wants it but it’s nearly $900! Insane!) that looks to be in EXCELLENT condition. Had a chance to play most of them and they all played beautifully.
I started lightly playing (and beginner learning), the year these guitars were born. I played my older brother's Harmony, then his brand new 1960 Jazzmaster, until my dad gave me a 1954 Stratocaster for Christmas in 1963 ... Just put a White Blonde American Original in layaway, today.
Another great video, but are you aware that a commercial interrupts it at about 9:30? I immediately deleted the commercial and made a not to NEVER use that product. Hear that youtube and advertiser? Sales are leaving when you do this....
In doing the red stain in the bottom region the finisher ran into some problem and just left it. The rest of the refin seems quite good. Wish this guitar could talk. Very interesting Strat.
Seriously I started following your channel couple days ago due to the Mary Kay Stratocaster saga and that came out incredible hear me out though my name is also Matthew and I myself don't have a 1959 strat it just so happens to be my dream guitar your name is Matthew but you already have a 1959 strat sure the finish on this one looks a little interesting but maybe you could toss that one my way? Beautiful playing and I'm always astounded by your finds for guitars
That's the conclusion I came to as well. Just too much red or It would have came out a lot better. Would be a shame to cover up that nice grain it appears to have...maybe he could do a refinish in the 2 color sunburst of is main guitar! Could be a backup to his main one but one with a new finish for him to break in! ;)
I was wondering the same thing but I believe they just did the Mary Kay color...but other than a 2 or 3 color sunburst I was thinking exactly as you! Like an Aztec gold was my first idea and then I was thinking maybe Sherwood green or fiesta red. Not sure what year they used Sherwood green but it's an interesting color, not my first choice though that's for sure. But funny we were both on the same page with the Aztec gold!
Had the rubber tubing on the pups instead of springs which is nice to have. Most of the time the rubber disintegrates after a few years. So I would use new ones.
10:30 you never mentioned the off-centre seam, quite visible under the pick guard. That seems like an unusual Fifties feature on a trans finish? It's a nice looking strat body regardless, and if refinished a more subtle clear sunburst would be excellent. In the mid Sixties Fender was using more opaque yellow in the sun bursts to I guess hide the wood inconsistencies, would be better if they hadn't.
Hi Matt, I have 1993 American Sandard that was repainted ever before it left the factory. It was a metallic blue and then repainted candy apple red. I found this to be really strange and found out Fender did this to sell it as a more popular color.
Referring back to your Neck Overspray video in May, and this Strat, you need some sort of polymerizing treatment to the wood to prevent oils from your hand staining the back of the neck. So, now that the overspray is off, figure out a good product to use. Maybe add a tint to match the yellow/amber aging of the old finish?
Rick Neilsen from Cheap Trick has 2 59 Les Paul's with consecutive serial numbers. He said he bought them 20 years apart from each other. You almost have that. Having any pair of instruments that close together is not only cool it's probably extremely valuable too.
Interesting. Sounds like you got another winner there! It sounded pretty dang good in your last video to be honest. Hard to say what to do to it. If it was me I'd do a refret, and a refinish in whatever color you prefer, sand the neck and sort that pickup out with whatever you want to do with it!
Mat you are gathering a cool collection and Im sure us you tubers appreciate you taking apart and investigating these guitars .I would leave this one alone ,just fix middle pickup.
So I just thought, your Mary Kay guitar is a 59 as well that is really close to the same time as these correct? Man how freakin cool to have 3 59's that close together. Super rare I'd have to imagine..
Great stuff man - thanks for posting these. Could we get a side-by-side of the bodies from this one and your main '59? There's always a chance that the two bodies (and/or necks) were made from the same piece of wood. I'm really enjoying your channel. Keep 'em coming!
Awesome Matt《☆》Someone did a great re-fin & preserved the date :*: I'm more of a silver bullet 5 way Strat guy but these are cool as well so thanks for sharing & PEACE🤓☻🤠
Love these dissection videos Matt.! You owe it to this beautiful Strat to have it refinished back to a stock 59 Fender Burst color. If you could find original pickups to replace the neck and middle that would make this guitar as close as can be to stock. I say keep this bad boy as your backup 59! You are one lucky guy to have 2 of these. Peace!
Matthew i love your chanel my favorite by far been wondering how you got your chops, lessons, tabs? Also i know you use 11s through 58s are they just a standard set of electric guitar 11s or do you use custom string set to get a lighter g string for those big SRV bends
we Gibson guys are waiting patiently for vintage Gibson project. we continue to watch and support you and Nik just in case the JR. or Special come out to rip us a new one. PEACE
I wonder if fender custom shop would refinish a vintage as they were from the factory new? Such a cool thing to verify it is original. As for being called a players grade, I would definitely call that a serious collector. And I would have it restored as well as it could be to original. It will naturally age again and when you are old it will look like you other one and be worth a fortune.
When you first showed this guitar the other week it gave the impression that it was a guitar that had, had a lot of work on it - home custom type job - but what you showed today, showed that it is still in a fairly original condition and the people who did the respray had the fore-sight to leave the pencil marks in. I personally don't like the finish it has at the moment - I think it would be cool to strip the body and do a tradition finish that was in keeping with the time period but then again - is it worth doing that?
@@MuscleDad420 Not if they're American. Especially not 1950's vintages. They're actually really good investments for his age, granted he doesn't sell them before he's in his 5o's or 60's. 40 years from now, when Matt is going to be in his 60's, those guitars will be a hundred years old and worth tens of thousands.
They already are tens of thousands. This generation is expected to make less than previous generations. Couple that with older boomer collectors divesting and the guitar market is going to be flooded with more and more examples of player and collector's grade instruments, and go through a big adjustment. You also have to keep in mind that civilization as we know it won't even exist in 40 years.
I'd send it in for a chocolate burst refin, Hell you have the real example to work from so who ever does it has a good piece to work from. The center section (ambering) is just wrong. Looking forward to the new Jam track. Peace!
I'm glad you play them and fix them up unlike collectors
@pizza time Same thing with old cars too, its a shame.
Dude...you do realize you have a fanbase now right? Love your content.
If so, I'm grateful. Hopefully you guys will dig the music coming soon..
Ya no doubt started watching his stuff a while ago can’t remember but I’m a fender guy so the content is awesome dig his music as well 👍nice comments you can see he digs it.
She is a great example of a well loved and played guitar. Really enjoy the " guts" reviews. Thanks, from a fellow strat techy.
8:25 He’s got that claw decked out.
I had to watch your live again, incredible. Love that guitar a great slab board on that neck.
New video tomorrow..
this strat is the perfect candidate for a custom color of some kind
PirateDynamics Miami sunrise
Very nice presentation of a classic. Thanks for letting me look!
That's so cool, it's like you've reunited family. Two awesome guitars and another great video, thanks Matt.
She's a beauty player grade. I'd say just try to fix the middle pup and let her be.
When the neck and fingerboard is SO hand worn like that you just know it's a real player guitar with music in it!
I agree that's the right approach
@@MatthewScottmusic for sale? I'm interested.

Cool stuff. Nice piece of Fender history.
Excellent and informative, full of golden nuggets of interesting information 🤓
Thanks Matthew

Happy Christmas and look forward to New year of great content👍
Thank you for another great video. Enjoyed it.
Amazing to find two that close together. You are correct they're getting hard to find. Enjoyed your live video as well.
Thank you very much. New video tomorrow.
Good job, keep them coming 👍
As always, a great video, man.
She's gorgeous.
Thanks for sharing, dude.
Keep it up.

Oh yeah i love the long videos.. Its like a journey
Absolutely stunning guitar bro and your chops are really getting fast very fluid and heartfelt many blessings to you
Nice video as always, man

Man I'd love an old guitar like that
I like seeing the inside of the guitar. Keep it coming.
Thanks for the info.
OUTSTANDING price!! Don't let anyone low ball you!!
Listened to your song mirrors a thousand times love it
More more more originals please
Great stuff!
Always a great and informative video..Keep up the good work.
Great stuff Matthew, I'd love to know where you find them... but in the absence of that, thanks so much for sharing your knowledge.

Wow that's a played in board. Nice to see it's all there to work with.
Well, that was a pretty good find for a "59". Some nice vintage going on in there.
I LOVE the finish

I am trying to learn to play and watching you is making it an inspiration, might be able to do what you do in 20years or so😎

that song "Mirrors" is great, do you have a soundcloud or spotify? couldnt find any. was it even recorded? thanks!
I had a very original late ‘59 R/W - CAR - no neck date - 8 hole 3-layer green guard. So, the lack of a neck date could be right for that one.
New to your channel really enjoy your content 😬🎸🇮🇪🙌

I'm curious to see what you've got planned for this.
Paint it fiesta, have the pickup fixed, raise the bridge, file down the nut and get rid of the buzz out the low E.
