We would she the popular girls (Rachel and her squad) showing up at the pizzeria and seeing how is famous for stopping a mafia man, that she would want to hang out, but Ellie would decline since she's happy spending time at her mom's pizzeria with her best friend, Gia.

Also i feel that Gia was also afraid of letting go of Ellie if she started haning out with Billy whic is why she acted this way.
