Nathan Lane is one of those people who is Always on stage, wherever he is; he oozes theatre. Voice, expression, everything. I can totally relate to that, because when you're like that, life never gets boring!
Him, Titus Burgess, and Michael Caine. I would happily die inside that conversation.
Karan Gera yes, it makes him such a great guest.
My friends, you absolutely right...200% with you.
Offstage, I understand, he's actually very quiet.
The best thing any Karan has said in recent years.
He really should have gotten the Oscar for Birdcage.
He got robbed for sure
He managed to overshadow Robin Williams. That alone deserves an Oscar.
@Dave Mathews Yeah, stealing the scene from someone like Robin, who immediately takes over any scene, is pretty amazing.
Absolutely amazing actor
I love that Stephen likes theater so much that he constantly dedicates airtime to highlight interesting plays.
Nathan Lane is great in theater productions, but I do wish he’d do more films. His comedic timing is always sharp.
@@Diana Mitford I was going to reply to you with something equally churlish and vulgar, but I see @Madhatter 41 has taken care of your trash self. Do better!
Birdcage or Producers.... people may debate. For me his best filmed role was on 30 Rock
@@susanburke1854 Birdcage!
@Susan Burke - He and the late Robin Williams were brilliant together in ‘The Birdcage’, but it’s hard to forget him as Timon in the Disney animated ‘The Lion King’.
Madame Chairwoman I love The Birdcage
I love how Stephen stays quiet and allows the guest to tell his story.
He didn't?
FUN FACT: In 49 states it is illegal to not like Nathan Lane.
The fiftieth state you didn't ask? Florida.
theCoffinSeller Rhode Island. Everything is “Void in Rhode Island”.
What are the two exception states?
I'm betting Montana is the holdout.
If not it should be. 💞💞
That's one of the few, true Broadway stars right there, folks. Always great to see him as a guest.
"When riding the Matterhorn takes on a whole new meaning" ROFLMAO! 😁😁😁😁
I have to say every time I see Nathan Lane I think of Birdcage. He made that movie a success and he out shown Robin Williams in it.
Birdcage is a yearly watch for me. On schedule
For me as well.
Is it Coleman or Goldman?
Have you seen the original French version?
Him, Robin Williams and Hank Azaria were quite the trio
Same!
Nathan Lane is a comic genius. The Birdcage is one of my favorite comedies. He and Robin Williams were brilliant in it.
I love when a guest acknowledges the adulations of the audience....some people come out and don't even look at the audience.
"Betty White [...] She's 99." That's cruel. The girl's a youthful 97 and you make it seem like she's old.
I never noticed this before, but Nathan Lane is the gay, shorter version of Stephen Colbert. Or, since Mr. Lane came first, Stephen is the taller, straight Nathan Lane.
Straight? Ehhhh... maybe just straightER
I thought Hank Azaria's shorter, stocky brother.
And, sometimes, Nathan doesn't come at all...
You are absolutely right Baritone45.
Nathan Lane is gay?
Nathan Lane... Robin Williams... tears, sadness.
Edit - Then I hear Nathan's jokes and laughter is back!
The way he and Robin played off each other in The Birdcage was magical. We will always miss Robin til we take our last breath.
“Hakuna Matata what a wonderful phrase. Hakuna Matata ain’t no passing craze.”
“It’s just a mouse.”
“I wish I was a boy.”
- All Nathan Lane quotes from great movies of my youth.
Is he Timon?
s21972012145525 yep in the cartoons.
@@KamoseMills & in the original movie.
He said that one of his favorite pranks to do after the movie came out. Was to stand behind a young kid in line with their parents in the supper market check out line. & 'do' his Timon voice & watch the kid spin round saying "Timon!" eagerly looking for his character. 😂
Amethyst I meant except the live action movie.
@@KamoseMills Ah I see. Sorry. But it's cool Lane's a great actor & funny as Hell too.
Nathan Lane is one of my imaginary dinner guests😅♥️
Yup! Absolutely!!
Nathan Lane is ALL of my imaginary dinner guests!
If you want him to be with your husband sure
Nathan Lane could host a talkshow with easy. Love him on Modern Family as Pepper.
‘clean up the panic room and put up the preserves’ 😂
Nathan Lane is a legend - what a great man
I saw the QE guys and then Nathan Lane, and my mind went, "Somebody at CBS ordered the Gay Combo."
Nathan Lane is a brilliant actor and seems like a lovely man. Always hilarious.
I very much like to watch your Late Night show and I have never posted a comment here, but in my opinion this is the best interview you've ever done Stephen!
Props to Nathan!
Cheers from Portugal
Such a class act! The world of today is bearable because there are (very few) people like Nathan Lane in it.
Just sit back and watch Nathan Lane go!
Queer Eye AND Nathan Lane in one show? I feel so blessed💜
nathan lane is the most delightful person ever, and it's a shame hollywood doesn't over use him
Technically overuse isn't a great thing is it. It's 'over' what the 'use' should be.
Thank you Nathan, you are a treasure. Always a ray of sunshine.
Need to see him more on tv shows and movies
Stephen and Nathan look like they could be brothers
Love that Nathan cracks himself up
"Meow meow" is so much of a thing that it's not a thing.
I'd pay to watch Nathan read thee phonebook.
My phonebook?
@@axeljong7958 LOL
It's just "the". "Thee" means "you" in olde English.
This guy is so bloody funny.
Next Tony award winning parody play "Trump, A Midsummer's Nightmare "
That shirt and tie combo, I love it so much!
the man looks good
Timon!!
Oh really you Mook
everytime he talks i just imagine him
me too
Nathan lane dropping not so low key shade at buzzfeed 😂
Nathan Lane is such a gem. He could even make Jimmy Fallon’s show watchable...
Nathan, you are looking good!!
"Can we take the tragedy and turn into a comedy?"
Tragedy TOMORROW....COMEDY TONIGHT!
I like how he waits until he knows the Camera is on him before he take a swig of the mug...seasoned professional makes sure to get the Colbert mug in frame lmao
@ 7:01 Nathan Lane looks at Colbert like he thinks he's having a stroke. lol
I love Nathan Lane! I've never laughed so hard in my life at his comedies, a true talent.
"We are shooting for a very specific demographic tonight" - Yep. People who have great taste.
My husband makes fun of me because I get my news from Stephen Colbert 😅😅😅
I have to watch Stephen every day, too, regardless of whether I have seen the news. We all desperately need to laugh, these days!
Only way to hear the news without crying.
@@pkswanable yes thank you 🙌💆
I don't mean to get news from him but I do
Me too best news at Stephen colbert
Kia Ora USA; Aotearoa New Zealand here.
I watch Colbert just to make sure you're all okay over there .... and still laughing ! 😁
*Especially after last Christmas when Melania went all "Handmaids Tale" with the frigging decorations!!!
(I've never heard #CadetBoneSpurs laugh btw. Like a deep belly laugh. That's suspicious don't ya think?🤔)
Trump only laughs at differently abled people and the poor. So the answer to your question is "Yes."
Jesus! Nathan hasn’t aged a bit!
Jack Jammen he totally has. Get your eyes checked
he is always old
i LOVE you both dearly. You both truly brightened my day...
He's looking great.
I love that Nathan laughs after his jokes sometimes.
Those are THE best eyebrows in the business. LOVE Nathan Lane.
I see Nathan Lane and I think: I want to have dinner with you.
The perfect talk show guest. He is always prepared, and HYSTERICAL. A true national treasure.
Love Nathan Lane. Mousehunt is a criminally underrated comedy gem.
Andrew Wood Yes!! Thank you for recognizing a true masterpiece! Haha mousehunt is secretly one of my favorite movies of all time 😂
Agreed! One of my favorites!
i bought that movie on youtube a while ago and been watching some parts of it and love nathan lane in it and lee evans! such funny guys!
THANK YOU.
You absolutely right.
Yes!!! I proudly had Mousehunt in my DVD collection for a long time. Those friends who would get excited about it? Keepers. He left the pit!
I love him so much.
Nathan Lane is so underrated in Hollywood, shame.
Brillant actors : Birdcage, Mousehunt, The Front Page, The Iceman Cometh, The Nance, The Producers, Angels In America, Penny Dreadful City Of Angels, Good Wife
"The only show that can make incest seem trendy." Oh sir, you need to see some more anime then lmao
Nathan is such a criminally underrated actor. I wish he would do more films. His comedic timing is genius.
A liberal only has to have a liberal agenda. Sad.
Saw "Gary" on the first preview night. Interesting concept. First NY trip for my 16 year old granddaughter, and perhaps not the most appropriate show. She was shy to ask, but her autograph was the last Nathan signed that night. He was obviously tired, but gracious to the end.
Is that old Colbert. Like a time travel interview
always fun to listen to this guy!
ah someone that can take the reins and run the show as a guest 😆
Nathan Lane looks like an older Stephen Colbert. They could be brothers.
Huzzah!! I am not alone in the 'meow-meow'!!!
He [Nathan Lane] needs his own show!! He’d make a great late night host!!!
I’d absolutely watch a movie with these two as brothers.
Revenge comedy indeed. Shakespare would have been impressed. But then again he didn't have access to the cloud or the military grade spying satellites. I am not sure if he would have included the almonds. But you never know when it comes to black comedy :-)
I honestly don’t know why he wasn’t casted in the 2019 Lion King, Timon is his natural voice 😂
His best role was as a distraction for Foxy Cleopatra!
Birdcage.
Nathan Lane is a national treasure. Great comedic timing, quick is a whip, a great talent and master storyteller. The only wit quicker than Nathan is the late great Robin Williams...his partner in crime in "The Bird Cage." The brilliant Bird Cage. His walk as John Wayne is comic gold.
Nathan Lane--always hilarious!
Just looking at Nathan Lane brightens my day!
Nathan Lane is always a hoot!
Nathan hale /Stephen. Two witts unbeatable
dian kreczmer
Nathan Hale was hanged during the Revolutionary War😂😂😂
These two are gold together.
He puts up preserves In The Spring? We always do it in Fall. Hmmmmm
I think it was a joke. However it's done in the summer when fruit is ripe. Unless ur doing apples. Lol this is the dumbest comment I've ever left. Lol
Everything's better in the Springtime. Even Hitler thought so...(Just so there's no hate at the potential Hitler reference, I am referring to "Springtime for Hitler" in the remake of The Producers, in which Nathan Lane is in)
paladonis LOL good point!
He's one of my favorite actors!
I love this guy!
Nathan's reaction to meow meow was so amazingly adorable lol
Why the hell they replaced him in the new Lion King makes no sense. It's like replacing Robin Williams as the Genie... Oh wait...
I can’t un-hear Timone from The Lion King
I hope he knows how much he is loved.
"...He forgot to add: the first time as tragedy, the second time as farce."
some number of people at Central Michigan University disliked the CMU joke.
whenever I see Nathan Lane I think Nathan Detroit from Guys and Dolls, but he's done so much more than that!
sogracious of him to acknowledge the audience. very few do. johnny depp is the other i have seen often do it
He needs his won show. Seriously.. He's always the sharpest wit in the room. Give the man a show.. We need him to host a show.
had his own show; it flopped
Please tell me I'm not the only one who gets all the references to literature?
No, but you seem to be the only one self-important enough to mention it.
Stephen and Nathan look like father/son or big brother/little brother!
Wtf I was just listening about Nathan lane yesterday in Conan's podcast with Ben stiller and now I get him first thing on my home page...
*WHAT KIND OF SORCERY IS THIS*
ᎶᏕ gαмιиg Me too!

@@gowthamsiddarth20 Yeah, big fan of Conan.
Ladies and gentlemen, our generation's Jimmy Durante. He's got a million of 'em-
Keep in mind if you have trouble getting Nathan Lane then get Dana Sydney instead.
So I'm assuming this is the guy that does Timon's voice from Lion King lol
Yep that's the guy alright. He said that one of his favorite pranks to do after the movie came out. Was to stand behind a young kid in line with their parents in the supper market check out line. & 'do' his Timon voice & watch the kid spin round saying "Timon!" eagerly looking for his character. 😂
Watch bird cage & the producers
Hi-ho Stevearino :D
I have no idea what just happened but I loved every second of it
If you cross your eyes right, you can see Nathan Colbert interviewing himself in perfect 3D
It was so nice to listen to an intellect being interviewed who actually appears educated. He certainly showed up Colbert and how little he really knows. Nathan is witty, he is intelligent and he knows how to entertain people!!! Bravo!
Nathan Lane is a genius! Amazing talent. 👏
Hearing him talk makes my brain think about dozens of different musicals I've listened to.
i love nathan lane, hes just such a sweet man. i volunteer to be adopted by him :D
