Watchmen is possibly one of the most underrated movies, people went in expecting it to just be an action packed superhero movie, but it was simply so much more. Incredibly written, one of the best movies ever.
There is only one band to make this song and that's the Smashing the Pumpkins. The original version was on The Batman and Robin Soundtrack. A remix was made and used with The Watchmen trailer and possibly its soundtrack

Such a perfect choice for a trailer song. The darker, B-side of a song made for Batman being used for a movie about flawed, morally questionable superheroes.
best comics movie ever, im so sad this is SO underated, probably cause of unknown comics or not major actors, but this is absolute masterpiece, all characters are very interesting, there is no funny jokes like in dc/marvel universe movie, its dark, realistic, a lot of cool historical stuff combined into story, just amazing stuff
I never heard of watchmen before but the trailer with this song made me want to watch it, then I forgot about it lol and when I was at a flea market I saw it for $2 and got it and holy shit, I've been looking for it on blu-ray since then lol awesome movie
Great song, great comic, great film. The only problem are the people in the comments acting edgy and hating on mainstream comic book films to make Watchmen seem better. Moore doesn't need that. His story is good enough. We can like Watchmen, DC, Marvel...
"The beginning is the end is the beginning" is the perfect song for Watchmen. The title itself summarizes the movie perfectly. But "The end is the beginning is the end" also fits the Batman and Robin movie perfectly. It's amazing that 2 completely different movies can share seemingly different songs that are essentially the same song.
I actually went to see them on Thursday... I forgot that I would have loved for them to play this song but they didn't. They did play The Crying Tree of Mercury though. Equally powerful in my opinion.
Saw this movie just a week ago for the first time since I was a kid. Such a beautifully crafted graphic novel film by one of my all-time favorite movie directors.
It still angers me greatly how vastly unappreciated this movie is. Watchmen is one of my favorite books ever. And the movie was as faithful as it could be. yes they changed the means to the end but the over all narrative is still the same!
That's so true the book and the movie were so realistic and similar. The movie was long but it had a good cast and story. My favorite along with Sin City.
The same could be argued about Man of Steel, but ultimately just because a movie does enough things right on paper doesn't mean the execution is there, such is the shortcoming of many of Snyder's works.
I loved this movie, it wasn't simplistic, it had depth which was really awesome. One of my favorite hero movies, the darkness and complication in the plot was brilliant.
I agree! The graphic novel gets all this praise by everyone yet the movie, which followed the comic almost word for word gets criticism. I just don't get it. Watchmen in my opinion is one of the best super hero films ever made.
"The world will look up and shout : Save us! And I will whisper : No " I love this part. From the moment I've heard it in the trailer I connect it with this film.
M Errington You maybe right. It is not listed as one of the tracks in the official soundtrack. Whereas in the Batman and Robin soundtrack, it is the very first track.
@@djeff37a No, it's the last track. The End is the Beginning is the End is at the beginning of the soundtrack, and the Beginning is the End is the Beginning is at the end.
Send a heartbeat to The void that cries through you Relive the pictures that have come to pass For now we stand alone The world is lost and blown And we are flesh and blood disintegrate With no more to hate Is it bright where you are Have the people changed Does it make you happy you're so strange And in your darkest hour I hold secrets flame We can watch the world devoured in it's pain Delivered from the blast The last of a line of lasts The pale princess of a palace cracked And now the kingdom comes Crashing down undone And I am a master of a nothing place Of recoil and grace Is it bright where you are Have the people changed Does it make you happy you're so strange And in your darkest hour I hold secrets flame We can watch the world devoured in it's pain Time has stopped before us The sky cannot ignore us No one can separate us For we are all that is left The echo bounces off me The shadow lost beside me There's no more need to pretend Cause now I can begin again Is it bright where you are Have the people changed Does it make you happy you're so strange And in your darkest hour I hold secrets flame We can watch the world devoured in it's pain Strange Strange Strange
90s were sheer perfection for me as well. I mean, right down to location, weather, the land that wasn't developed yet, I have a few regrets like not exploring more of my own state at that age. But school, girls, friends, teachers, vibe, music, my first car, everything was literally... perfect.
I loved this song when I was a kid, listening to it on the Batman & Robin soundtrack. I was so happy to relive that when the Watchmen trailer came out. Still amazing and better than the fast version IMO.
Rorschach’s journal, October 16th, 1985 42nd Street: Women's breasts draped across every billboard, every display, littering the sidewalk. Was offered Swedish love and French love, but not American love. American love; like Coke in green glass bottles, they don't make it anymore. Thought about Moloch's story on way to cemetery. Could all be lies. Could all be part of a revenge scheme, planned during his decade behind bars. But if true, then what? Puzzling reference to an island. Also to Dr. Manhattan. Might he be at risk in some way? So many questions. Never mind. Answers soon. Nothing is insoluble. Nothing is hopeless. Not while there's life. In the cemetery, all the white crosses stood in rows, neat chalk marks on a giant scoreboard. Paid last respects quietly, without fuss. Edward Morgan Blake. Born in 1924. Forty-five years a comedian. Died 1985, buried in the rain. Is that what happens to us? A life of conflict with no time for friends, so that when it's done, only our enemies leave roses. Violent lives, ending violently. Dollar Bill, The Silhouette, Captain Metropolis, we never die in bed. Not allowed. Something in our personalities, perhaps? Some animal urge to fight and struggle, making us what we are? Unimportant. We do what we have to do. Blake understood. Treated it like a joke, but he understood. He saw the cracks in society, saw the little men in masks trying to hold it together, he saw the true face of the twentieth century and chose to become a reflection of it, a parody of it. No one else saw the joke. That's why he was lonely. Heard joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Says life seems harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world where what lies ahead is vague and uncertain. Doctor says "Treatment is simple. Great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go and see him. That should pick you up. " Man bursts into tears. Says "But, Doctor.... I am Pagliacci." Good joke. Everybody laugh. Roll on snare drum. Curtains.
The Watchmen is by far my favorite "Super Hero" comic/movie because of it's realism. Especially for being made at such a popular time for comics. Everybody always asks me "What's your favorite Super Hero?" because evidently they "love" comic books and Super Hero movies, yet when I respond with Rorschach, they just give me a blank stare. I then have to explain that the Avengers, Batman, Superman and all of the other popular Super Heroes aren't the only good Super Heroes out there. Anybody else feel my pain?
That's true i explained the whole watchmen comic and they still look at me like im some loser. I love anti heroes The Punisher, Dark Knight,Marv from Sin City and in this case Rorschach. Heroes with a dark side that don't just give a shit.
Rorschach is my 2nd favorite hero Spider-Man being the 1st, but my favorite Anti-Hero is The Crow, which surprisingly all the 'comic book' fans/experts don't know who the fuck he is, I like the whole dark theme, even the movie is very dark and dreary and has a depressing vibe to it which fits the whole theme of the hero, its sad people only read Marvel and DC, and suddenly become the master of comic book heroes, I mean shit there are so many good heroes/villains not written by Marvel nor DC.
Yeah, take Batman for example he keeps bringing villains to Arkham only for them to escape and kill again, while The Punisher, The Crow, Rorschach, etc. Kill them which means they can't escape to kill again Anti-Heroes are the ones I'd call real heroes.
I didn't like BVS even after the cut. It was not good at all. And the lord of the rings trilogy was really good either way honestly just the cut is a little better
I saw them perform this live not even 2 years ago now in Sacramento, summer of 2018. Was one of the best surprises of the show and one of the highlights of my life.
It's on the Batman and Robin soundtrack from 1997. Never watched the movie so don't know if it's in it, but this is the crown jewel of that movie's soundtrack
wcw2793 Because it's a shitty concept, and it's obvious Batman will win, despite Superman being the obvious victor, simply because Batman's more popular.
Δημήτρης Κιαπέκος The Dark Knight Returns is a pretty crappy story, despite its (really undeserved) praise. I don't get the hype behind it, it's nowhere near as good as Watchmen or other graphic novels of equal caliber, plus, Frank Miller is a crazy asshole.
"I’ve walked across the sun. I’ve seen events so tiny and so fast they hardly can be said to have occurred at all, but you… you are a man. And this world’s smartest man means no more to me than does its smartest termite". - Dr. Manhattan
Even when I was a kid and listened to this version and its "alter ego" (the end is the beginning) on the very same Batman & Robin soundtrack, I was shocked that this one didn't get any attention at all. Even the verses are different for crying out loud! (With exception to the chorus of course) But both show great poetic aspects of the hero's dilemma in different ways. I wish the movie they were originally for lived up to how good both songs were, but thankfully at least Watchmen recognized this.
Also, for anyone who likes this song and is not familiar with the Smashing Pumpkins check out the other soundtrack music produced during that year(s) with a similar sound- Eye (Lost Highway soundtrack) and the soundtrack from the movie 'Stigmata'. If you really want to get deep check out the soundtrack of the movie Ransom.
One of the best superhero movies I’ve ever seen in my entire life. The fact that it was so faithful to the graphic novel and the character’s personality were tied so close to graphic novel made it so much better in a film perspective. Zack Snyder made a risky ballsy move making this graphic novel into a movie. Hence why he is one of my favorite filmmakers out there
I was looking for this song forever. When Watchmen first came put in '09, the song caught my attention with its gloomy atmosphere and eeriness. Thank you so much!

Great song, great comic, great film. The only problem are the people in the comments acting edgy and hating on mainstream comic book films to make Watchmen seem better. Moore doesn't need that. His story is good enough. We can like Watchmen, DC, Marvel...
3 years later and I absolutely agree brother
"The beginning is the end is the beginning" is the perfect song for Watchmen. The title itself summarizes the movie perfectly. But "The end is the beginning is the end" also fits the Batman and Robin movie perfectly. It's amazing that 2 completely different movies can share seemingly different songs that are essentially the same song.
WiruSenpai The music itself is awesome, slow and tense.
Goes with anything.

Just went to a smashing pumpkins concert. They didn't play this. I cri evrytime.
I actually went to see them on Thursday... I forgot that I would have loved for them to play this song but they didn't. They did play The Crying Tree of Mercury though. Equally powerful in my opinion.
AllThemWitches Was marilyn manson with them when you were there?
They probably don't play it because some of the sounds are made by a cpu
PigInATuxedo Yep!
AllThemWitches I was at the same concert!
"I'm not locked up in here with you, you're locked up in here with me!"
- Rorschach
Saw this movie just a week ago for the first time since I was a kid. Such a beautifully crafted graphic novel film by one of my all-time favorite movie directors.
It still angers me greatly how vastly unappreciated this movie is. Watchmen is one of my favorite books ever. And the movie was as faithful as it could be. yes they changed the means to the end but the over all narrative is still the same!
I think its awesome, as good as TDK but critics are just snobs
And I will whisper : No "
I love this part. From the moment I've heard it in the trailer I connect it with this film.
“Nothing ends Adrian. nothing ever ends”
Dr. Manhattan
I first heard this on the Batman and Robin Soundtrack. Then the Watchmen came out and it was revived as the theme for that movie.
Daryl J I don't think it was ever actually played at any point in the Watchmen movie. It was the song on the trailer.
M Errington
You maybe right.
The only good thing to come out of Batman & Robin (was the OST)
Whats the soundtrack called?
+Gucci Quique it is the reverse order of this, "the end is the beginning is the end"
And Poison Ivy
didnt george clooney come out yet?
This rendition of it's still better.
Send a heartbeat to
The void that cries through you
Relive the pictures that have come to pass
For now we stand alone
The world is lost and blown
And we are flesh and blood disintegrate
With no more to hate
Is it bright where you are
Have the people changed
Does it make you happy you're so strange
And in your darkest hour
I hold secrets flame
We can watch the world devoured in it's pain
Delivered from the blast
The last of a line of lasts
The pale princess of a palace cracked
And now the kingdom comes
Crashing down undone
And I am a master of a nothing place
Of recoil and grace
Is it bright where you are
Have the people changed
Does it make you happy you're so strange
And in your darkest hour
I hold secrets flame
We can watch the world devoured in it's pain
Time has stopped before us
The sky cannot ignore us
No one can separate us
For we are all that is left
The echo bounces off me
The shadow lost beside me
There's no more need to pretend
Cause now I can begin again
Is it bright where you are
Have the people changed
Does it make you happy you're so strange
And in your darkest hour
I hold secrets flame
We can watch the world devoured in it's pain
Strange
Strange
Strange
What's the point of this, you can just look the lyrics up. Or is this the best thing you can say about the song?
@@keeljones2962 umm its here probably so you can hear the song and read/sing along at the same time like I just did 🧐
@@dannykolpack9013 Have you ever heard of tabs. Yeah, they are useful.
@@keeljones2962 good to know.put it on my tab.thanks
@@keeljones2962 You're an asshole!
That initial trailer with this playing made the movie an instant “go see” for me. Saw it opening weekend and I’ve loved it ever since.
Dr Manhattan: Does the New 52 make you happy?
Reader: No- (*Gets vaporized*)
Dr. Manhattan: He was so strange.
HAHAHAHA
In the end, nothing ever ends.
It's so awesome that both versions of the song are so awesome
It really is. Both hit differently too.
This music is, one of the biggest reasons why I miss the 90s so much!
90s were sheer perfection for me as well. I mean, right down to location, weather, the land that wasn't developed yet, I have a few regrets like not exploring more of my own state at that age. But school, girls, friends, teachers, vibe, music, my first car, everything was literally... perfect.
Not a 90 kids but i get it, everything is a clutter of stuff nowdays
Such a great graphic novel...the movie came out as well as it could considering and this song just NAILS it!
Couldn't agree more with that
"We don’t do this “thing” ’cause it’s permitted. We do it because we have to. We do it because we’re compelled."
The directors cut is the most faithful adaption from print to film ever. EVER.
Is it the one it lasts 215 minutes?
Can't beat Sin City, It's impossible.
The Ultimate Cut really beats Sin City. I mean, even the pirate history is included.
MrJmaldo05 dude I bought it over the summer, and I loved it.
if we're talking just comic books, yeah. Including books though? No.
Fricken watchmen was ahead of its time and still relevant in our era, with that i read the GN with this on loop
This song is beyond. A perfect Tribute to all jewels of underground comic-book masterpieces.
I loved the Watchmen movie. This song is originally from the Batman and Robin soundtrack (1997); it was so good then & I still love it
Was just about to write the same thing. You deserves more thumb ups, you!
I loved this song when I was a kid, listening to it on the Batman & Robin soundtrack. I was so happy to relive that when the Watchmen trailer came out. Still amazing and better than the fast version IMO.
"But doctor the man said, I am the great clown Pagliacci."
Good joke. Everybody laugh. Roll on snare drum. Curtains.
I fucking love that line so much
Rorschach’s journal,
October 16th, 1985
42nd Street: Women's breasts draped across every billboard, every display, littering the sidewalk.
I am Pagliacci."
Good joke.
Rorschach is my 2nd favorite hero Spider-Man being the 1st, but my favorite Anti-Hero is The Crow, which surprisingly all the 'comic book' fans/experts don't know who the fuck he is, I like the whole dark theme, even the movie is very dark and dreary and has a depressing vibe to it which fits the whole theme of the hero, its sad people only read Marvel and DC, and suddenly become the master of comic book heroes, I mean shit there are so many good heroes/villains not written by Marvel nor DC.
werewolf914 Cool we both don't go for the "good" guys of superheros. We like the anti heroes.
Yeah, take Batman for example he keeps bringing villains to Arkham only for them to escape and kill again, while The Punisher, The Crow, Rorschach, etc. Kill them which means they can't escape to kill again Anti-Heroes are the ones I'd call real heroes.
Alex Lasker don't forget about Jackie estacodo from the darkness comics
Best trailer ever, this goes perfectly with the images.
Most underrated movie EEEVVVEEERRR!!!!!!
Not true this is right where it belongs, higher than anything DC today and lower than anything that is an amazing movie or masterpiece.
No. No, it doesn't.
No, its pretty bad. Not as bad as people say, but its pretty bad
I never count anything besides theater releases, but I'm sure that cut makes it better
I didn't like BVS even after the cut. It was not good at all. And the lord of the rings trilogy was really good either way honestly just the cut is a little better
The community will shout "Give us Half Life 3!", and I'll whisper "no".

Samestro .........half life 3....the original blach and cm punk
The community will shout "Give us Half Life 3!", and I'll whisper "card games".
I read this aloud in Rorshachs voice and my grandfather laughed.
Hunt Down the Freeman
Universal Studios:
"The community will shout 'give us Hellboy 3', and I'll whisper 'no'.
God help us all.
Not a chance in hell.
And i will whisper"no"
The best DC live action film hands down
This song sums up "Watchmen" perfectly.
Probably the most menacing song I ever heard in my life. But at the same time it makes me feel powerful.
I saw them perform this live not even 2 years ago now in Sacramento, summer of 2018. Was one of the best surprises of the show and one of the highlights of my life.
my mom and dad named me after Billy Corgan because they loved Smashing Pumpkins so much :)
Far out!
Corgan McEachern what a cool name I love it!
Epic!!
That's the bessssst, great name! :)
Thanks! I haven't met anyone else that has my name. Somehow, it gets misspelled all the time! It's so easy, it's just 6 letters lol. ☺️
This song fits excellent for Zack Snyder's Justice League cut
this song just MAJESTIC!
I love them, and this is one of their best
It's on the Batman and Robin soundtrack from 1997. Never watched the movie so don't know if it's in it, but this is the crown jewel of that movie's soundtrack
Tonight, a comedian died in new york
I understood the reference
+Gustavo Castelo Branco i understood THAT reference
wrong. Tonight a comedian died in Gotham
+The ZombieMan wrong. Tonight a comedian died in metropolis
+The ZombieMan i get that refference
honestly, this version of this song got me thru some dark times in my life around 2009-2010. sounds weird but it did! truly grateful.
I understand. It has for me as well.
I really hope this song gets used in another Batman film or for one of the trailers for Batman vs. Superman.
Dylan Burns How do you know?
wcw2793 Because it's a shitty concept, and it's obvious Batman will win, despite Superman being the obvious victor, simply because Batman's more popular.
***** Actually it's gonna be based on a comic,The Dark Knight Returns,so obviously it's not a matter of popularity.
Δημήτρης Κιαπέκος Well, it's still a shitty concept.
Arguably the greatest comic book film ever made.
An absolute quality tune.
Such a delightfully dark song
Watchmen is a masterpiece.
Corgan has a haunting voice
This movie was simply a piece of art.
It's too late... and it always has been.
One of the best superhero movies I’ve ever seen in my entire life. The fact that it was so faithful to the graphic novel and the character’s personality were tied so close to graphic novel made it so much better in a film perspective. Zack Snyder made a risky ballsy move making this graphic novel into a movie. Hence why he is one of my favorite filmmakers out there
Came here after the Snyder Cut!!!! Awesome!!!
I remembered this one and had to piece together bits and pieces of it and the source. So beautiful.
It was never about saving or punishing, or even laughing. It was all about watching. It was always about watching.
Simply outstanding work from Corgan and clan. Deep, complex, and haunting. I think of this song out of the blue now and then, and I have to hear it.
“I’m not locked in here with you… you’re locked in here with ME!!” Best superhero quote
I was looking for this song forever. When Watchmen first came put in '09, the song caught my attention with its gloomy atmosphere and eeriness. Thank you so much!
One of the best comic films ever put to screen.
This was the greatest trailer ever crafted.
My favourite comic and my favourite superhero movie. Didn´t realized that it has this fantastic gem in its OST.
3:00 this is what i call a fucking badass bass
+DarkVortex42 Mm-hm
I knew this song since the late 90s when it first came out!!! It's the last song on batman n Robin soundtrack. I've always loved this song!! 😎😎
This songs talks about stuff mankind is not supposed to know. It was so perfect for WATCHMEN!!!
Love these dark song with this sort of tone
Know any others??? :)
