What kind of 7404 IC are you using? We got the SN74LS04N and can’t get the circuit to work. Help!

Also, what volt battery did you use? I know the diagram shows 6V, but I could only get some function with a 9V battery. Do I need to increase?

7404 is NOT Gate IC, 7404 can't handle 9 volt. I think your IC got damaged. Instead of 7404, you can use CD4049 or CD4069. both of them are NOT Gate IC and can handle up to 18 volt.
