Great set of iems but they require EQing. I bought these pair of iems and I was very impressed with the sound. I previously owned a pair of Fiio F9. The F9 has a V shaped tuning with a slight extra sibilance. The Soundstage of F9 has great width at the back as compared to depth and height and not so accurate 3D localisation. Now coming to the Fiio FD5: The tuning is a slight V shaped with dark sounding exaggerated bass. I find it to be too muddy. I use the wavelet app to EQ it to the Harman curve and it sounds excellent!! The best part about it is the soundstage. It has equal amount of width, depth and height, a very holographic sound. You can easily pinpoint each instruments and there is adequate separation between them I have the Bose QC35 and the Soundstage of the FD5 is almost comparable to the Bose. P. S. : I have only used the stock wide nozzle.
FD5s are very good in soundstage at this price range nothing comes close, these do benefit with a bit of EQ, but they do not need it like the S12 needs it. Even without EQ it sounds alright, S12 without EQ is unbearable, sharp, lacking sub bass and lower mids. I love the FD5 over the S12 and OH10s, got them as many recommended them to be the best for soundstage under 500
Nice review! Very informative and answers all the right questions. Also, i think of all the reviwers, only you tried and recommended the narrow nozzle which changed the world for me. With the narrow nozzle, i have never experienced sound like this before. Signature-wise, i think these are made for me! Thanks a lot! However, i am facing difficulties finding the right eartips for the narrow nozzle. After testing all included tips, i settled for the small tri-flange. With these inserted right, the treble, mids and sound stage goes to another level! But also when inserted right, I can't listen more than half an hour as my ears start to pain, even after being accustomed with Etymotic fit. Have you tried the tri-flange? If yes, can you please suggest any normal eartips that provides the same level of treble, mid definition and sound stage? Would be great if you can! Cheers!
A seriously awesome iem. It sounds almost like a headphone without wearing a headphone and it's super comfortable. Can't recommend it enough.
I've sold my $3000 iem and kept this. Treble is perfect and so I bass.
and which $3000 iem is that?
I love your intros they get better and better!

they should have also included a narrow nozzle with the same outer diameter as the wide nozzle so all the tips could be used with it !
Fiio did that with the FD3. They’re learning!
Did Fiio design this driver? Perhaps it's the KISS principle at work here that it seems to outperform the more complex FH series.
I don't think FiiO designs its drivers, but like everyone else, buys models from driver manufacturers.
Pretty amazing how they miniaturized so many complex components to build IEMs. Hearing aids are even more complex.
Another they're going 2b like watch components😂
Hi! What's the copper cable introduced at around 13:34?
Would this be a significant upgrade from the FH3s?
Same thing but more premium and a huge flex
If you have money BUY IT
Probably not
How is this compared to the fh7?
Good
