Chevy 454ss Holley Sniper EFI Install - OBS Chevy Big Block Shop Truck Ep. 3
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 тра 2023
- This week we are getting rid of our stock throttle body injection system for... another throttle body injection system? Well yes and no! We're getting rid of the TBI on our Chevy 454ss Big Block for a Holley Sniper EFI system. And while these two system might work similarly, the Holley system is going to give us so much more control when it comes to being able to make adjustments on the fly and monitor all of our fuel readings from inside the cab of our OBS! We're not just dropping on a Holley EFI this episode though; we also have all of the Holley Hyperspark supporting components to go along with it as well to make sure our big block is getting a strong, healthy spark. With the motor back in place, we can make some adjustments to our new long tube headers to get the 454 fitting back snug in the engine bay, so we can then assemble the rest of our drive train! With our modified headers fit up and our fuel system installed, we're just a cooling system away from firing our Big Block 454ss OBS shop truck up! So make sure to like and subscribe so you don't miss out on seeing this truck hit the dyno for the second time!

Again.... NO FEAR, lets chop this brand new Edelbrock manifold ! I love it! We all can't wait to hear this beast roar!!!
We gotta make it fit somehow! And now we're one step closer to getting this thing fired up!
This truck was already cool. I can’t wait to hear it run again with all the new upgrades. Keep up the good work!
We're excited to see how the truck is going to run/handle with all the upgrades!
Thanks for the longer explanation of how to install the new wiring! I've watched the other videos of the sniper ignition install, but I never put 2 and 2 together. Gosh so stupid! 😂 you guys rock Thanks for keeping the vids top notch!
Glad you liked the video! Thanks for the support!
I was just watching the first two episodes and looked for ep 3, just my luck 👍🏻
Perfect timing!
Hell yeah. I expected nothing less! Can’t wait to see this thing on the dyno.
Thanks so much for the support! Step 1: start up. Step 2: burnout. Step 3: back on the dyno! lol
Great content as usual. Nice work on the big block Andrew, it's rare to see a distributor on a build now days, a welcome site for us old hot rodders.
Tryna keep it OG!
The nicest view is the underside.., so much going on.
Mikey you have a bad ass crew bro. dont change anyting about your vids there great and to the point, love them
Thanks so much! We're glad you like em!
You need to show the distributor hold down. If you don’t show the distributor hold. The people won’t know that if you rotate that distributor, that’s how you set the timing the distributor will move if you do not use a hold down. bracket. By the way, the trucks really cool. If I was you, I’d wrap them headers to.
Loving this series so far !
Love to hear that! Thanks for all the support!
My dad had one when I was a kid. Now I’m pushing 40 and want one as a project so bad lol
They are going up in price fast!!! I think it's because they come with a bed full of nostalgia lol
It's good that you guys show how some aftermarket parts need fine tuning. Even if it is a reputable company you can have parts that will clash with one and other. I'm just speculating, if that was an O.E. stamped steel rocker arm, that valve cover would of fit with no issues. With the much thicker aluminum rocker arms, that created fitment problems. This is where you need to adapt and overcome. Not just start blaming the company and saying they made it wrong. This happens all the time when building custom vehicles. Its not just plug and play. Thank you Andrew. You did a marvelous job once again. The truck is looking fantastic.
Thanks so much! Andrew is a killer mechanic and that feedback really means a lot! We've definitely done enough mixing and matching parts and companies in this shop to know that you can never expect anything to fit together perfectly on a custom build without a little elbow grease. The company's job is to make something that's quality and functional. Our job is to make it fit!
I will stop my Volvo restoration to watch this & be inspired
Hope this energizes you to get through the rest of the day!
@@SalvagetoSavage My 240 project also has a blue antique FL tag!
This is so awesome, love your builds!
Thank you so much!
Sure do appreciate you guys perpetuating the internet myth that Snipers need the dual plane divider removed. My next month will be spent telling people that's false now and they don't need to do that or run a single plane on their 300 HP small block. I support these for a living and there is no need to do that. You did gain plenum volume which is never a bad thing, but I sure wish you didn't mention the MAP sensor when doing it.
😂
Awesome!! Thanks Andrew, Mike. Can’t wait to hear this vintage V8 come to life!
Open headers please!
It is a tradition in our community of car guys, first fire up is always open headers!
The O2 sensors can wait!
Well good news is we're definitely not going to have the exhaust ready before the engine is set to fire up. And we don't have the patience to wait either, so you'll get that open header start!
always love watching you guys!! great job on anything you touch!
Loving it!! It's going to be the proper engine it should've came with. Can't wait to hear that big block roar. Nice work fellas!! 🏆🥇🎖🏅
Thanks so much for the support! We're stoked to see what kind of numbers this 454 will be putting down once we get it back on the dyno!
Looks great can’t wait to hear her breath for the first time! That Holly system great, having a shop truck that just starts when someone hits the key is great. One less thing to have to mess with on any given day when you need to make a parts run. Plus who wouldn’t want to make a parts run in that truck!!
Our long term goal with all these holley parts are to never have to run out to get parts FOR our parts truck! lol These sniper systems are pretty awesome when it comes to being able to turn the key and drive away!
This is the type of wrenching I love to do myself, and love to watch. Seeing how others do things allows your mind to expand, adapt and learn some things! Thanks for your consistency in quality videos every Wednesday. Cheers.
Thanks so much for tuning in every wednesday! And always leaving on a comment on top of it. We can't thank you enough!!
Sweet! Nothing sketch about this build.
Except the man in the drivers seat! lol
@@SalvagetoSavage 🤣🤣🤣
It's the little details that set you guys apart, another great build.
Thank you so much!
Excellent eye for details
Thank you!!!
Can't wait too see it running ❤
We're getting so close!
S2S Wednesday is always a hoot.
Glad to make your Wednesdays a little brighter!!
awesome job
Thank you!
What a AWSOME build
Thank you!!!
Nice work lads. This 454 is looking great.
Thanks so much!
“Take your time get it right”
❤ Preach ❤
We'd rather do it right than do it again!
I look forward to all your shows. I love the content.
Thanks so much for the support!
Looking Amazing 👊
Thank you!
Coming along nicely beautiful build 👌👌👌
Thank you!!
I love y’all work bro
Thank you so much!
Awesome job guys. Loving the videos as always
Thanks so much for the support!
2nd that ❤
Enjoying the hell out if this build. This is litterly my dream build
We can't get enough of this 454 either!! Glad you like it!
Love the truck
Thank you!!
Hi guys
This is the third time I've sat down to watch my favourite builders. She's bound to want me to do something in the next twenty minutes,........well here goes.😅.
hahaha! hope you get some time to relax and enjoy the video!
Great job. Love the modernizing of older still viable engine choice.
We couldn't swap the motor and still feel good about calling this thing a 454ss! We know these are well loved trucks, so we wanted to keep it as true to the name as possible!
Love your work boys
Especially this ute
Thank you so much!
A lot of work was done in the engine bay and in the engine itself. keep up the good work guys. For a second, I thought that bracket holding the analogue gauge needed another bolt to be secured properly.
That bracket is going to be painted up and then bolted down one final time nice and snug!
#23 👍🏼 Looking good! Super cool truck build can't wait to hear it
We're so close to getting this thing fired up for y'all!
You guys certainly don't do things by halves... this truck gonna be a beast 🦍
Thank you so much! We're really excited about our new shop truck!
Great video. Good info.
Glad you liked it!
Perfect job 👏👏👏 congratulations 👍
Thanks so much!!
@@SalvagetoSavage welcome Dear Friends 🤗👍👏
Maybe it’s just me getting old and grumpy, but I’ve had to modify more parts to fit than I ever remember. Pushing out junk that takes an hour or two to just make 💩 fit. Great episode looking forward to seeing the fire up!
Even all the kits now are custom fit! lol I think part of it is all the good cars and trucks have been at the mercy of at least a few hands before it gets to us, so nothing is every truly stock!
Yeah, you're getting old and grumpy. I can say that because I am too. My kid even bought me a shirt that says "grumpy old bastard". I love it. When you are old and have worked on all sorts of crap, especially custom stuff, you are always modifying parts to make them fit. How many sets of headers actually bolted right in ? Think about that for a minute
lookin real noce Boyz, great job as always Andrew.
Thanks so much!
cant wait to watch this later, wanting to try a sniper on my stroked LS
They're really awesome systems!
Bad ass videos bro keep up the amazing job 🔥
Thanks so much! We're stoked you liked the video!
My favourite truck. Wishing I didn’t sell my 88. Living through you guys tho.
There's always that one truck that got away! Glad you're liking this series!
Another easy way to make pie cuts is to tac or clamp a piece of flat bar on one side of the pipe that way it will give you a perfect 180 turn when you flip the pipe in the jaws clamps on the saw.
We might just give that a shot next time! Thanks for the tip!
😍😍😍😍
Just found this channel and love it as a Chevy truck guy haha
Well you're in luck cause that's 70% of the stuff we build! lol
These guys are extraordinary. The stuff they build is top notch. There are some very talented guys in that shop. I've been around custom cars all my life. Built a lot of cool stuff, and some things I'm not proud of. These guys are the real deal. I have nothing but good things to say. And no, I don't know them, I've never met them. I can just tell real talent when I see it.
Make sure to keep all of your Holley wiring away from the distributor as much as possible. I’ve seen multiple cases were RFI interference causes the sniper to run very oddly. A shield with reflective tape on it around the distributor also helps.
Thanks for the heads up! We had that issue with the very first one of these we installed. We were scratching our heads trying to get it to run right!
Nice catch on all the mishaps Andrew! I’d be too excited to get it put together and blow the whole thing. 😂 This thing is gonna rip and stick to the road like a mad ape.
Right?! Could you imagine only getting one burnout in before having to rebuild the motor.. again!!
Pure fire🔥 i wish i had some sponsors for my 454 ss widebody project 😩
A widebody 454 sounds sick!
@@SalvagetoSavage yeah i almost done with it, im doing something different, we put a full rear electric window from a tundra on it
Pretty sure you would of, but just check you didn’t miss off the distributor hold down clamp.
Awesome build so far as usual for you guys!
We used it on the final install! Sometimes what we do isn't always linear, but we want to make sure we can show you guys as much of a complete process as possible. We had some other stuff we needed to go back and do before that distributor was going in for the last time, but we didn't want to round out the enginebay part of the sniper install without showing you guys the distributor!
💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Long tube headers? You mean mid length I think. Looking good guys 👍
Looks just like my build.
We're trying to keep the appearance of this 454 as OG as possible!
@Salvage to Savage yeah ours is a 10 bolt with a 383 stroker with the Holley Mid Kit and EFI. We decided to weld on the whole kit and powder coat the frame with our EC rack and Pinon.
finalized...
finalized
A friend of mine wants to get a Holley Sniper EFI units for his LS swapped '73 Ford Maverick, I herd those are really good!
The install and set up is super easy and the adjustments are really intuitive. You can run it and have it build fuel tables on its own, or get more hands on and do changes yourself. Cool little piece of retrofit car tech!
Shop truck? Strait show truck!
If we kept the motor stock, that 200hp would only be winning us a "Best In SLOW" award! lol
"I'm gonna bolt this on for the last time." - the lie every builder/fabricator tells himself several times during a build... 😁😁😇😇🤘🤘
Sooooo true
💪👊👏
Love it ❤❤can’t wait to see the next update video much love guys keep up the great work !! You guys will be painting this rig right ?
We're on the fence about whether or not to repaint it or leave it original!
Going to be sick when it done
Can't wait to get this one fired up!
Pretty sure he finalized that distributor install without mounting clamp and Bolt not going to stay at top dead center very long
Love the content BTW 😂😂😂❤❤
It's not the last time the distributor was installed. We had a few other tweaks to make before it went back on, but we wanted to make sure we at least showed you guys the distributor before the end of the episode!
Love seeing wrenching done on our OBS trucks! That Holley mid mount looks money in there! Will you guys be hooking up the a/c? Curious to see how that turns out as I too am running the mid mount albeit on an LQ4 in my '90 Sierra. Keep it up!
We're doing an AC swap on it. We're going to be going with a Restomod AC. We just needed something that blows a lil harder than the stock AC down here in South Florida!
7 mpg 385 HP
It's a very American ratio
Comment for MORE!!!
MOOOOOORREEEEEEEEE!
So, you are telling me all of these shows that mess up their first start because their distributer was 180 out… just do that for drams?!??!! Lol
Or they do what we've done before and tossed that little clear plastic cap in the garbage! lol
@@SalvagetoSavage haha fair!
No 4L80E upgrade? When does kaleil (?) get his time in front of the camera for a project. Also how long til this gets a twin screw?
In the last video it looks like you ordered a top end kit for a Gen IV but the truck should be a Gen V which has a different head cooling pattern? I ask as I have a Gen V sitting around!
If they got the money you got the time, yeah I just checked them out online and they're like 12 to 15 hundred bucks but sounds like a good deal. Excellent workmanship nice shop lots of state-of-the-art equipment. I wish you the best. Just wondering where you guys are located at.
We're based out of Boca in South Florida!
EFI system, all electronic, electronic throttle, custom ECU, and then a distributor ? Why not modern separate coils ?
The truck came with a distributor from the factory, so it lacks the cam/crankshaft sensors we would need to run a modern coil system because we wouldn't have a way to distribute the spark. The hyperspark distributor works really well and acts a lot like a coil system once installed. We're able to make all of our timing adjustments from inside the cab off the holley sniper screen without ever touching the distributor!
holleys drive belt set up is best looking one i have seen . would you guys be interested in selling the factory TBI and ecu ? im converting my 1/2 ton 350 to 7,4 4l80 .. nice work as usual
Shoot us a message on IG! Not sure if it's already gone yet!
It’s gonna rub on other end of ea head ea rocker as well no? It’s just that the rockers are not in the position to rub atm
We checked clearances through the rocker arm's range of motion as well!
Inlet should of gone black to finish off the murder look
My favorite build so far.
Will you be able to bring it to LS fest?
No :( We are bringing our slammed '62 with us though!
@@SalvagetoSavage awesome build too, planning to see you’s guys there.
Bro where'd did you get the black rims for the truck?!?
You can find similar ones from Detroit Steel Co! They're who we always go with to buy our steelies!
Wheres @TIMMOCERI gone???
He left to work on other projects
@@SalvagetoSavage Keep up the great work guys, loving the content. Peace.
🥊 🥊 🥊 👍🏻 👍🏻 👍🏻
What headers are you using?
They're edlebrock long tube headers!
opps, im sorry they are JBA headers
Wouldn’t a single line anywhere in the pipe be the center line??
Unless the line is marked uneven from end to end. It's also relative to the mark on the opposite side of the pipe
Don't quite understand, why you use a distributor instead of coil on plug system with electronic ignition...
The hyperspark distributor works directly with all of the other sniper components. So once we set the distributor, we can adjust our timing from our in-cab screen along with our EFI system the same way that you would with an electronic ignition system
Why not go with an electric water pump? And why not a 6MT swap?
didn't these trucks come factory with BBC's?
They come with their namesake 454 big blocks!
@@SalvagetoSavage you should document your brackets and offer to sell them
Sell it to me!!! Lol
but then what would we take to pick up all of our parts in?! lol
dont listen to Kyle, send me a check and you can take it home. lol
@@SalvagetoSavage lmaoo. This is great!
Those are shorties not long tubes
Not meaning to be trolling but it being so easy on that header. You could have gone to a muffler shop and throw them a 20 to borrow their bender for 10 minutes and bent that pipe instead of cutting it 8 to 10 times. Jee Whizz... Hope you got paid by the job and not by the hour. Easy would have been to bend it. Your gonna lose the shop.
I promise you, we’re not losing the shop my man! 🤣. Funny thing is we’re not getting paid at all on this truck it’s owned by the shop. 🤙🏼
I wish you guys would just let us hear the shop sounds and not the music.
There are no sounds behind timelapsed videos. If there were, it would only be squeaking because of how the video is sped up!
