The thing about drawing what you like is very profound since, not only do we get discouraged to draw anything in the first place, we also have very critical teachers and viewers that value some styles more than others (like professors hating 'anime' styles) stalling that inner and outer exploration. And it almost feels like you're doing art wrong and slow down to a near halt when practicing.
Hell, sometimes just starting is a challenge now, it's better to have someone finish projects that are so-so but can be helped later to one that's too stumped to try. Jaden from Jaden Animations mentioned in one of her stories how she practiced piano, but not until she found Pokemon sheet music did she really got excited for it, combining it with this it opened my eyes XD;;.
I also for a while did not notice how the value of an active life contributes to your output. Bam Animations also described it as you did more or less ''the best artists are the ones with a story to tell''. It makes sense, we are meant to project or translate reality through the eyes of experience.

Wow! What a thorough reply! Thank you for taking the time to be so thoughtful :)
I do think there is value in having a balance between challenging ourselves and being comfortable. To improve our craft by trying new things and drawing new subjects isn't always be most fun thing, but in the long run, it can be rewarding. But ONLY doing that makes it miserable. And often times, people get into art because they are excited about something they consumed from a show or a game, etc. And to take that away it really dumb! Its taking away the inspiration haha. I believe balance is key. For those in art school, doing your traditional lessons is very valuable, but having a sketchbook to goof off in and just do fun are to keep it something you like I think is SO important.
Yeah for me getting started is sometimes the hardest part for me. I have to fool myself to starting sometimes lol. Like, if you sit down and turn on a movie and draw, then you're doing a fun thing with a thing you have to do too, but it's not as bad. And half the time, I actually like what work I need to do. It's just the initial step of getting started. I heard a story somewhere (probably tiktok lol) about this couple that HATES folding laundry. So to make themselves do it, they turn it into an event. They put on a movie, order take out, have a drink, and fold laundry during the movie and it makes it fun.
I LOVE that phrase "the best artists are the ones with a story to tell". That is SO WISE! I hadn't heard that before but I think that sums up a lot of what I was trying to say with this vid in a nice compact sentence. Ima have to use that in my lessons next year lol

@@sleepyheadkl Absolutely!! There's always a distinction of hobby and professional work. Even so, to have art as a job is taxing too, you gotta LOVE your project. A conviction to get something out be it excitement or a mission. Alan Becker has this video saying how there's that crossroads of drawing what you like v.s. study, very in-depth.
To get to it I've had to be able to see the end of the project before starting cuz I found myself never finishing them. Only recently did I started to upload and study more seriously ;; hahaha. That couple is BRILLIANT!!! It's better when you have someone to help out too
