From 6:40 to about 6:50 historic buildings were torn down to build a shopping center downtown in an effort to revitalize the city in the 1960s. The shopping center was never built.
Grew up and lived there for 25 years and as much as I loved my home city (it is the smallest city in Massachusetts), the ONE thing that always irked me, and many others, was the terrible condition of the streets and watching this, I can see things haven't changed a bit since the 1960s...for such a well to do and beautiful city, the least they could do is provide the taxpaying residents decent streets to drive on.
That's what I was thinking; I lived close by growing up, and now live in Somerville. The roads all throughout Massachusetts are a disaster. The infrastructure is shot all throughout the Commonwealth and even the rest of America, for that matter.
