They certainly do look good. How big in diameter will they get at the base? I've been told that Northwind gets something like 3' wide at the ground and require constant division to keep them small like what you have there.

We advise dividing them with a sharp shovel in late spring every three years to keep the clump looking nice and tight. Annually they just need a seasonal late winter cutting to encourage new tight growth. Up to 2-3ft wide is correct.
These plants started as one gallon size, they're now at about a three gallon size, this is their 4th season with about an inch of crown growth at the base a year.

@@batesnursery Thank you for clarifying that! Cutting them back every three years would be easy enough. Now I just gotta decide if I like the height. I was hoping to use them for a more "formal" hedge across the front of the property, a single row like you have there, with a clump of butterfly weed between each Northwind just for a splash of color. I'm right on the side of the road, and wonder if a strip of grass that's 6' tall would look "too much". 4' tall, with 2' of wispy flower stalk on top wouldn't be bad, but 6' of solid stem? Not sure.

@@threeriversforge1997 Northwind definitely gets 4-5ft tall, but not really six feet. "Shenandoah" or "Heavy Metal" are shorter varieties if you wanna go 3-4ft range.
