Fair Isle Postcard #21- A Question About Designing and Spring Arrives
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 лют 2025
- Rachel answers a question about her designing process for creating patterns, including several of the books that she regularly uses for inspiration. The weather continues to move toward spring, and we hear and see how the sheep deal with the fluctuating weather and consistent spring mud.

Loved seeing your design process for the lining of your jacket. Blue spray is a great cure all! 😆
Thank you so much, Janette! Hehe, blue spray is magic! 😄
Wonderful content, as always, Rachel. I loved the previous post re your Barbour lining competition! (I personally think you should have won.) I sure hope you got to keep the jacket. Mine has the boring Barbour plaid lining 😭
I hope you and your sheep are having some lovely spring weather. 🐑❤️
Thank you ever so much, Leslie! Yes, I received the jacket a few months ago, which was wonderful to be able finally to see it close-up! We've had wonderful weather this last week but, sadly, back to rain and gales today 😢
Loved to see this section with Rachel. I hope this will be a lovely Spring for you all to get a rest from the harsh Winter.
That's really kind of you, thank you! 💐
Thank you for sharing your life
You're so very welcome! 💐
So enojoyed the video, can't believe it's almost 2 years since I visited you in Fair Isle for the first time. Must be time for me to come back again! Often see the plane flying overhead one it's way to or from you. Hope the spring is kind to us all in Shetland and especially to you in Fair Isle! xx
Thank you ever so much, Janette! I know - the two years has just flown by! Violet always asks when you're coming back to see her! 😂 I hope you've been enjoying the last few days of fantastic weather - what a difference it makes. Not so much today's rain and gales though! 🤦♀
You are very inspiring. Take care, your sheep need you.
That's so very kind of you, Debbie, thank you! 💐
Hello Rachel. Loved catching up with you and the sheep and hoping the days are getting dryer and warmer for you. Best wishes to you and Violet❤
Love this video, well done. Lots of work in a beautiful country. Hi from Alaska granny.
That's so kind of you, Liz, thank you! I hope you are keeping well 💐
I love all of your podcasts. ❤❤
That's so very kind of you, Joanna, thank you! 💐
Love learning about you and your lambs! What are you wearing? It's beautiful!
Thank you so much, Pamela! The jumper I'm wearing is 'Bluebells' by Kate Davies and the little shawl round my neck is a prototype of my own design in my own Bee Croft wool, which I knit about two years ago and still need to find time to work on it some more and write up the pattern! 😄
Nice to see you again !!! The first time I listened to this post-card, I didn't pay attention to what you are wearing around your neck, I was more concentrated on what you were saying, but what are you wearing' Rachel, is it a shawl or a cowl ? It looks like a flower ruff, collerette, it is so cute.
Thank you so much, Nicole! The little shawl round my neck is a prototype of my own design in my own Bee Croft wool, which I knit about two years ago and still need to find time to work on it some more and write up the pattern! 😄
@@barklandcroft3416 No rush Rachel. I know how busy you must be, especially during lambing season. When you have the pattern out, I will be happy to buy it and knit it. I wish you all good ewe moms for this season so they take good care of their offsprings by themselves and you don't have to bottle feed any of the lamb.
@@nicolelafontaine1720 That's ever so kind of you, Nicole, thank you so much! 🐑💐
Hi, new to this channel. Are there natural predators? Do your sheep shelter some place at night? Your post was very insightful. Thank you.
Thank you so much for watching! No, we're lucky in that there aren't really any natural predators here - the only 'wild' mammals on the isle are rabbits and mice! Sometimes the Great Skuas will try and take lambs from the hill but we don't get anything like the foxes or badgers that will predate lambs elsewhere. The ewes that I currently have in for lambing have access to the byre for shelter and the sheep elsewhere on the croft have field shelters where they can take shelter from the worst of the weather!
Hi Rachel, I recently joined your pateron, but I can’t open any of the videos that you post. Any help is appreciated. Thank you
Hi Connie. I'm so sorry I've only just seen this message - I'll send you a 'proper' reply via Patreon and hopefully we can figure out what's not working re the videos! 🤞
