Omg I'm a August kid too and i'm 17 about to turn 18. Honestly life is way better as im turning 18. I'm still interested in my "childish" hobbies and have friends who are interested in the same stuff as me. I matured a little more but haven't lost interest in the things that are pivotal to me. It is scary and expressing some of that fear definitely helped me overcome it.

Girl, I have the same feeling, I'll be 18 in October and I constantly feel like I didn't enjoy my early teens too much (for different reasons) It's so crazy to think that the life I knew until now will slowly fall apart, without me being able to stop it. I don't think I ever celebrated my 17th birthday, but I'm glad my childhood war is over.
At the time I was 17, I was barely surviving as I was suffering with two abusive parents that barely fed me. At the time I weighed around 70-75 Ibs. I also went to juvie that year for trying to move out but because my parents needed someone to take care of the house they classified me as a "runaway" and forced me to come home. I turned 18 a couple months later and moved out of state. Haven't talked or seen my father in 7 years. 😌
If anyone is wondering what freedom sounds like, it's this playlist. ✨😁

4months left to be 18 and this playlist made me think of how fast my life changed. I did things that my younger self would never do. I stopped being clingy to my best friend after she broke my heart many times. And it seem now that she is happy that i stopped loving her that much and she said that's good that i changed. I became closer to my mom and i finally realized her love to us. I stopped hating my younger siblings and Blaming them of not having things i've always wanted and started looking how to bring it instead and how to make them proud of their big sis. I know being mature is so hard but we must keep going guys. We have only one life so we must enjoy everything in it ✨

I wasn't in the best head space when I turned 17 so I wasn't experiencing that freedom and joy your teens years are "supposed" to feel like. Years later now at 23 I feel that now, so if you feel behind, excluded, isolated, don't worry you'll get there. I promise you stick around, it's worth it.

Hey girlie! As a little girl, I thought my 21 year old self would have it all: the best apartment, the best car, the best job, etc. but here I am, still a college student, working a job to earn money to continue college, living with my parents to save money. Most of my friends are in the same predicament.
Don’t be so hard on yourself because you’re not there yet. I am not either. Instead, focus on the little wins, and let go of the losses. Because you can learn from your losses.
Winners are a byproduct of many losses. Do you know why? Because they never gave up. Also, if things don’t go your way, let it go. Things don’t go your way in life, and sometimes you can’t do anything about it. What you can control is how you react to your situation. So whatever your situation is, find the blessings in it and keep a positive mindset.
I know that when everything looks dim we tend to think negative. This is an opportunity to not only look at the positive things in life, but also how to use your creativity to make your situation better.
Someone older once told me, as a young person, we tend to pursue instant results and put ourselves on a timeline, (by this age, I should have this, be doing this, etc.) but some things take great effort and time. Sometimes, you can see the fruit of your hard work 10 years later!
It’s like planting seeds. You may not see the results of hard work, after watering and fertilizing it. That little seed is still taking root. We are at a stage where we need to grow roots. Strong roots. Because what is a tree without roots?
Find yourself good soil. Meaning, a place where you can grow. A community that inspires you and also encourages you to do better. In a loving way, of course. Surround yourself with those people. Pursue God. Im not trying to push religion on you, that is your decision. But lemme tell you, He has great plans for you, to prosper you and not harm you, to give you hope and a future. I believe pursing God is one of the best things you can do to yourself. Again, that is your choice to decide.
Continue to work hard by watering and fertilizing yourself. And be patient. Your hard work will be rewarded later. Don’t be discouraged. Water yourself by eating healthy, exercising, reading good books, and maybe even taking a social media break. Journal. Therapy is also an option. I highly recommend it.
Fertilize yourself by listening to wise advice from people older than you. They have lived longer than you and know the nitty gritty of life. Of course, listen to those that love you and want the best for you. Surround yourself with peers that can lift you up and encourage you even when things get messy. And also be an example to those younger than you or even look up to you (you might not even know it! I think that is so cool) and help them grow as well.
Don’t be afraid to ask questions, even if they feel stupid. There is no such thing as a stupid question. Continue learning, even when you’re 120 years old. It keeps life exciting and your brain sharp. Pick up a new hobby that you’ve always wanted to try but you’re scared to do. Read an interesting book. Take that hard class. Talk to someone you’ve always wanted to talk to but you were scared to do.
Get out of your comfort zone. Because when you do, you will realize how much you’re truly capable of. Try and keep trying. You miss all the shots you never take. If you did it, and you miss, that’s alright. Give yourself grace, then try again. Keep doing it till you get it right.
I know it was a long letter, but I’ll leave you with this:
“How big would you dream, if you knew you couldn’t fail?”
Think about it for a second.
