  • We met up with international Artists to get their first impression on the Yamaha Live Custom drums. Check out what Dave Weckl, Terri Lyne Carrington, Oscar Kraal, Dafnis Prieto, David Garibaldi, Steve Gadd, Oscar Seaton, Kendrick Scott, Neal Wilkinson and Gregory Pataka had to say on the new kit.
Yamaha´s new LIVE CUSTOM series drums consist of 100% Oak shells built to satisfy the demands of drummers performing in a live environment.
Thicker oak plies than with the previous Oak Custom series deliver a sound with greater strength and depth, providing rich expressive power and the punch you need to cut through in live situations.
Dark Silver finished Hardware and Black Finished Shell Interiors not only look cool but make your kit resistant to signs of heavy touring. The newly designed heavy-duty snare strainer operates with a solid feel while providing easy strainer changes and adjustment while playing.

Got my L.C kit a few Days ago and I absolutely love them ! This video makes them out to be super loud but there not there just fuller and better sounding with a quicker response because they are fast toms! These drums blew me away at how easy they tuned up i went with Aquarian super 2s and keep the top head loose and the bottom a lip tighter and they sound incredible for the jazz fusion my band plays!!

It must be nice to be Dave Weckl and just say, "I like em. You'll have to send me some ", lol!

      Hi Giulano,
we did get really positive feedback from artists on the snare for its warm and punchy tone.
Actually, Terri Lyne Carrington now made it her first choice snare for live and you can see her performing with the Live Customs in 2014 when touring for her Grammy winning "Money Jungle" Project.
Maybe you can check with your local Yamaha Drums Dealer and give it a try yourself. The LNS1455 snare does have a wide tonal range and offers a variety of powerful sounds when played more percussive (like Dafnis) or funky (like Oscar). lt is worth giviing a try!
      Thanks for considering,

I am just learning how to play drums and the local music store Is helping me buy this set. My house was robbed a few months back. Tv, computer games movies basically everything I own. Including my guitars. I didn't have renters renters insurance so all that stuff is lost but when rose from the roxys heard about what happened she offered me a really great deal on a brand new Yamaha live custom drum set. I've always wanted to learn a new instrument so that thanks to rose my first drum kit will be a Yamaha live custom :) can't wait.

Oh and by helping me I mean they are selling me the drum set with series 7 hardware and with some beginner level cymbals (high hat, crash and a ride) for 1995.99. They are letting me make small payments since I'm kinda poor but once half of it is payed off I can take it home :3.

+Gary Smith If you are just learning, why do you need a $2,000 drum set? Get the $600 Stage Customs to learn on. I don't understand people that need expensive gear when they are beginners. I learned on a $200 drum set.

I am sure it is - it has to be - a good snare. I wrote that because of the way it sounds from about 2:50 to 3:11.

You're tone deaf and no know nothing about sound. That "bad sound" you're deaf ears are listening to is called "different tuning".The drum doesn't sound "bad", it's just at a different tuning range and tonality. If you don't like it, that doesn't necessarily mean it's bad. It just means you don't prefer that sound.
