The reason model material is added to support material is not to cut down on support material (support is less expensive than model material) but to add a strengthening substrate to make the support more stable. You may have already resolved this but depending on what materials you are printing with, you might have the option to choose what material is being used as your substrate, which would remove the magenta model material.

I have now learned this yes. We switched out elastoclear for white and have more colors now.
But yes it's working well
