Being an English footy fan and just stumbled upon RTE, how have I missed all this great punditry? I made a box set of South Africa 2010 and all the best analysis I found was from RTE.
Now you know why Souness loved working fro RTE. He was hamstrung by SKY, not being allowed to say what he wanted until he went to RTE, and was sat being Eamonn going mental hahaha
@@derekrushe Honestly it was an eye opener. Proper blokes talking properly about football. Compare it with the celebrity focused drivel you have today.
Bill is actually right here and he's not the 'expert' that the other 3 are supposed to be. The football Ireland played under Trappatoni was absolutely appalling and terrible to watch. That's why the stadium was half empty because it wasn't worth paying in to see
Idiotic... you take a manager used to coaching Baggio, Del Piero and Totti, and you give him an international team without the basics, of course he is going to play negative football.
Brady does nothing but stand up for Trap!Bill was spot on here.I think this game was on the same week as the All Ireland Final,so Bill should of asked Brady "how come the Croke Park(85,000 seater) would be sold out at the weekend?
Can anyone direct me to a comment Liam Brady said once on this show... been trying to find it for years. He was talking about either "The gaffer's" assistant or else trapatonis assistant and he just turned to Bill and he said " who is he Bill, did he even plaaayy foorball" it was hilarious they way he said it. Been looking for it for years but no joy so far, would love to find it, me an mate are always talking about it so it be cool to find it.
Finding it hard to be excited about Ireland qualifying for the Euro's next summer. In Jack and Mick's day I was really excited. Is it because I am 20 years older or is it because this team bore me shitless with their style of football. I'm struggling to understand it.
i was listening to strawberry alarm clock with Bill o'herlihy getting interviewed few months back...he loves winding up Liam brady and this clip is prime example of getting him wound up haha
If the stadium is half full because there isn't the money around to fill it, how does the club sustain itself? I'm assuming television rights, sponsorship deals etc. But balancing that with the running costs of a club, and that most clubs (nearly all) show debts on their books (Arsenal an exception - I'm a fan of Brady and Arsenal), what's happening? Are we going to see clubs go bankrupt or are ticket prices going to come down along with salaries and all running costs? Where is this leading to and how are they staying in business?
@WhackARat i would not mind if we we did not qualify but we actually tried to play instead of hoping robbie keane scores but he only scores 1 in 5 chances per game
I always watch the games on RTE.British sport pundits are so boring and reserved. These guys tell it like it is no holding back and fair play to Bill always stirring them up.When is the last the last time you seen Gary Linekar stirring up Alan Shearer or Alan Hanson?
Exactly Trigger777 The Aviva is packed to capacity for Ireland rugby international and Leinster Heiniken cup games at €80+ a ticket. Despite the recession there is a market for football in Ireland. I dont condone the prices for tickets to be anything the way they are at present and I agree with the argument Liam, Eamo n John are making. However I think Bill is spot on wih the reason for the stadium being so sparcely full. Money was even less plenty in the 1980s but we still pulled in big crowds.
Haha, Liam looked like he wanted to leap over the table and knock Bill the fuck out! Ye never get this kind of quality in the British commentary lol. Get in there Liam, tell it like it is son! 8)
it is definitely a bit of both. i dont have the money but even if i did i dont tink i wud go and watch most of the games because the football on display is shockin.
Celtic fan, Liam Brady is spot on here, the working man or woman is being priced out of the game, was at a Dortmund game recently, the Germans give a fk about the supporters.
People would think nothing of blowing it on drink and junk food and the like the fact is if we had a great team to watch people would cut back on crap to buy a Ticket the Team just does not inspire , last night it was full because we qualified suddenly people find the bobs .
Real football supporters in Ireland go out and support their local team, they don't sit on the couch or barstool and gaze at the telly. The real supporters weren't there because they spent their money in Inchicore, Phibsboro, Drumcondra etc...
@goonert82 It's always been seen as a bit offensive to call the country Eire when speaking English. It's Ireland. I'm sure you didn't mean to offend. For example, you don't say Deutschland unless you are speaking German. You say Germany. The term Eire is often used by certain sections of the British class to belittle Ireland by implying that we are not really a proper State. So only say Eire if you are speaking Irish in future! Just wanted to clear that up for you!
the fai are in debt for a reason bill, people will go to support their team whether the football is bad or indifferent. i have to agree with liam here, its down to the fai lynching everyone and the working man not having enough money. the fai don't do themselves any favours. why didn't they just close the upper stand for this match and have everyone in the lower stands. it would have made it look much better on tv rather than havong everyone dispersed
I think Bill has a valid point here. I have decided to watch the Euro championship on the TV in the summer. As I am not prepared to fork out a thousand quid to travel and pay to watch this team. They play shite football ! I suppose its a case of having to be careful what we wish for !

Bill O Herlihy was pure gold as a presenter. Sadly missed, it's never been the same and i dare say will be ever again.

Yeah the new guy daire's a pussy
They should have given the job to Peter Collins, at least hes got a backbone
The glory days of Bill, Eamo and Gilesy! RIP Bill.
@@bigdogtabooya5426 Peter? Jesus Christ he just follows his script that RTE gave him before the start of the game and nothing will make him veer off.
No presenter would have taken as much abuse through the years with such grace haha
He just threw grenades in and new how to get rows going without it being self evident. Looking back he was so clever
Bill could wind up a battery clock 🕒

Poor old Bill. Sadly missed. What a legend he was.
Lovely grenade thrown in there by him knowing exactly how the lads would react. Can't buy that these days.
Theses 4 were the best
Miss these four together so much. I used to look forward to the analysis before and after almost as much as the football itself, even more.
The little smile from Bill just as Liam was starting
Brady was a legend on the pitch -looks like he's a bit of a legend off it too!
Well said Chippy absolutely spot on. It was below the belt
Liam setting into coolant mode at the end lol

It's a pity you never see such debates on other soccer channels.
Instead of listening to rubbish like Lineker, Shearer and Ian Wright.
Brilliant, best commentary ever "Do not go there girlfriend !!!"
It's even worse under O'Neill
