Interesting video, since you were trespassing I don’t think climbing up the signal ladder was a good idea? After all if you had fallen and hurt yourself the owners would be looking at a law suit? Someday that bridge will fall on its own accord or someone will set fire to it and it will be gone.
GCT/Bridge 103 wasn't built in 1919, as the end of your vid states. That was the year the line was completed. GCT was added later - finished on July 6, 1932, built after the March 27, 1932 slide that took out No. 15. (633' long, 185' high)
Great video! Keep up the good work! I have been wanting to make this trip for a long time, as I am an avid railroad fan as well as experienced hiker/backpacker. I just retired last month, although I'm only 54, so I'm still in good physical shape, and I want to make this trip from my home state of Iowa withing the next two or three years. Any tips on where to stay, campgrounds, etc?
Abandoning Rail lines is a big mistake. Rail lines need to be well maintained so that trains can run on them at highway speeds to compete with the trucking industry. When a rail line is neglected and not properly maintained, trains are forced to slow to a crawl. That gives industries the incentive to turn to shipping freight by truck, and that ultimately leads to rail lines getting abandoned. Trucks beat the hell out of our highways, resulting in rutted pavement, and uneven concrete sections, which mess up a vehicle's front end alignment. More truck traffic on our highways leads to more pollution too, which contributes to global warming. Truck drivers get pushed too far, get fatigued, fall asleep at the wheel, and cause accidents. Not only does that result in property damage, injury or death, but it also causes massive traffic jams, that throw thousands of people off kilter, making them late getting where they need to go. We need to keep the freight trains running to reduce the number of trucks on our highways. A freight train, while carrying the freight of 100 trucks, only emits the pollution of four trucks. Each time I'm sitting at a railroad crossing, waiting for a train to go by, I say to myself that each car on this freight train is one less truck on our highways.
thanks Dan!! enjoyed the vid... we went out yesterday and didnt make it to the trestle. we did the Mortero trail to the GC... it got to windy and when we reached the cliff, we had no idea which way to head down, left or right... Ill have to try your route next time...

where did you guys park?
AM G Park near the gas station. Don't park on the private dirt road towards the resort because you could get a parking ticket.
