As a father of a young man enlisted in the US Navy, and a father in law of a beautiful soul I can tell you first hand not everyone is accepting of inter-racial couples. I’ve severed ties with some of my own family members because they cast disrespect at my son and his wife. Just because she is a black woman. She fell in love with my son because he’s honest, loyal, respectful and has manners. He’s always referred to his mother in law as Mrs Coleman. Opens doors for his wife. When they dine together, he makes her plate first. I’ve taught by example, to assess people by three criteria: content of character. Courage of conviction. And compassion for others. Her family loves and accepts him because she loves him and because he is loyal to her and her alone. Haters will hate because they hate something within themselves. Racism is a learned behavior, and it is overcome by people having the courage of conviction to see it for what it is: wrong. I’ve lived in the south nearly my whole life. I’ve been exposed to racism all of it in one fashion or other. I disassociate myself with those kinds of people. No matter their race. No matter of blood relation. They can all fornicate their clones. I raised all of my children with the same exact philosophy. Never EVER associate yourself with bigoted people and never fall into the trap of associating anyone else as such just because they are different from you. More than half of the marriages in America end up in divorce. As a result, Kids growing up without their dad and mom. Kids not having both parents at home. Kids having to deal with different dynamics of Daddys girlfriend or Mommys Boy friend who are now the step dad and mom. Both parents having to deal with when and who sees the kids or keeps the kids. Then you see this interacial couple married for 13yrs with healthy and loving kids and parents who still love each other nad having to deal with seperation for months on end and kids not having dad around but Mom seems to do a good job taking care of kids, what more can one ask for. Those disliking this are ones who are just haters and wish their life and family life was as loving as these two couples and their bundle of kids. Kudo to both dad and mom.
That how it was for my family. Each time my dad was deployed and he came how my mom got pregnant. He deployed every two years. There are 4 of us. We were stationed in Ft Hood in the 90s
Hawaii is pretty much this America but better due to the fact that their is no 100% of any one race for any given person here unless you go to Niihau which is a private island where you will find the only true 100% Hawaiians left in Hawaii living as their ancestors did, keeping their culture and traditions alive but for the rest of the islands you will find it very difficult to find someone who is just white or just Hawaiian anymore due to the fact that we are all so intermarried from the days of the sugar plantations that any given person can have anywhere from 2-10 different nationalities. Our family makeups as well can see so much different nationalities that color isn’t even an issue along with our cultural traditions because they have become so interwoven to become apart of almost everyone’s life. The only racism that those still exist in Hawaii though is white due to the fact of the history from the days of the sugar plantations and from the bad experiences brought to Hawaii from those that are white that move to Hawaii who tend to be the most rich whites who think they can do whatever they want and change Hawaii to their way just because they have money creating bad blood between the locals and the haoles, Hawaiian word for foreigners/white man. This is why so many to do come to Hawaii or come into contact with people from Hawaii in the mainland with school trips and see how everyone of every race interacts together and isn’t separated are shocked but in the end love our true multicultural society and day this is the America that we should all have for everyone.

Then the responses get upvoted, all at one time, and youtube suddenly replaces the previous comments with these rapidly upvoted ones, then people are wondering what happened to the hate. It's kind of annoying, but solely due to youtube's poor design.

In my day, for long deployments, we only had letters and the occasional phone call. Even with todays technology and given the fact that when you sign up for the military you know there will be separations from your family and loved ones, it takes a special dedication to endure that. Hawaii is pretty much this America but better due to the fact that their is no 100% of any one race for any given person here unless you go to Niihau which is a private island where you will find the only true 100% Hawaiians left in Hawaii living as their ancestors did, keeping their culture and traditions alive but for the rest of the islands you will find it very difficult to find someone who is just white or just Hawaiian anymore due to the fact that we are all so intermarried from the days of the sugar plantations that any given person can have anywhere from 2-10 different nationalities. Our family makeups as well can see so much different nationalities that color isn’t even an issue along with our cultural traditions because they have become so interwoven to become apart of almost everyone’s life. The only racism that those still exist in Hawaii though is white due to the fact of the history from the days of the sugar plantations and from the bad experiences brought to Hawaii from those that are white that move to Hawaii who tend to be the most rich whites who think they can do whatever they want and change Hawaii to their way just because they have money creating bad blood between the locals and the haoles, Hawaiian word for foreigners/white man. This is why so many to do come to Hawaii or come into contact with people from Hawaii in the mainland with school trips and see how everyone of every race interacts together and isn’t separated are shocked but in the end love our true multicultural society and day this is the America that we should all have for everyone.

In my day, for long deployments, we only had letters and the occasional phone call. Even with todays technology and given the fact that when you sign up for the military you know there will be separations from your family and loved ones, it takes a special dedication to endure that. I salute my brothers and sisters in the military today and that they are serving this country.
