we used to use an old Hanovia lamp with a woods glass filter as a Magnaflux lamp. Very dangerous lamp if you're not careful.
That Hanovia lamp is awesome!
Thanks! I felt bad for it being at the store for so long, then the price dropped and I felt it was time to give it a proper home with someone who knows the dangers of it!
G D R=German Democratic Republic
Narva also produced light bulbs that worked for 10,000 hours, but the idea did not spread due to the basic principles of the consumer society. After the regime change, the Iron Curtain came down, Germany was united and the Narva light bulb factory was also closed down.
Nice, thanks for the information!
And what abortus the correct brand Narva?
About
I've seen a lot of old 80w and 125w mercury vapor bulbs in Brazil, specially in rural areas. For some reason, in Brazil, all mercury vapor's are phosphor coated
6:30 That's very weird! Plugging in a fan to the ceiling socket. And very cool of the tab being made in the US. Oh man! I only ever saw one of those sweet-looking diamond shaped light bulb! That was way back in the 80's. Indeed, very cool find.
The Sears Die-Hard bulb is indeed Westinghouse, and is a DC-17 shape Super Bulb. The actual Westinghouse branded version was rated 3000 hours. This one madd specifically for Sears is twice that, so 6000 hours, with a reduction in lumens for the Sears version, obviously. These are filled with Krypton gas, which is the most expensive substance on earth, so Westinghouse designed the DC-17 bulb to reduce internal volume to use less of the insanely expensive gas, compared to regular And “Eye saving” T shaped bulbs. These are pretty rare bulbs, and Super Bulbs are not very common either! I have one of the Sylvania fixtures like this! Mine is well used, and is 70 watt metal halide. Yours is obviously new old stock. Mine only has the wall mount bracket that positions the fixture like a street light against the wall. Got it in 1999 off a store we gutted out for a remodel in Massachusetts. Cheers!
Very cool information about the Sears bulb and your alleykat find! As always, thank you for all the great information!
Yup fantastic collection of lightbulbs & halogen lamp adapters! Cool MV wallpack light & a cool MV desk light you scored there! 🙂🙂
That Hanovia lamp looks like it has a UV-C germicidal bulb, which you have to be very careful with because exposure to it will damage your skin and eyes.
Fantastic video! You found some really neat light bulbs and fixtures. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed!
nice wall pack. i want to see it installed on an arm 😊
Engelhard used to be the world's largest refiner of precious metals.
The blue filter on the halogen bulb is for UV light. This bulb was used in overhead projectors and microfiche machines.
Hanovia was a sun lamp manufacturer.
Bom vídeo like💡
I almost wonder if the Alleykat came from another lighting collector. That would explain why it was installed indoors and came with all the mounting pieces. But then again, why would they want to get rid of such a cool fixture?
I wonder that too sometimes, and why would a collector want to get rid of it? Most of the time I think these unique new old stock fixtures come from lighting stores clearing out older fixtures but you never know.
17:13 i wonder if you could roast some cheap electronics by just plugging them into that socket
Ya turn the wall pack in to streetlight mode that would be awesome
DDR is probably The former West Germany. After WW-2 Germany was divided and occupied. The Russian occupation zone was the eastern half of the country, and they forcibly installed a communist government. The part of the country that was occupied by the British, French, and US became in 1949 West Germany, with a freely elected democratic government. To make sure their products weren't boycotted, they were marked West Germany and in the early years added "Non-Communist". Finally, in 1991, after 46 years, they were reunited.
Interesting, thanks for the information!
