    The Hyundai Kona Electric is all-new for 2024, designed as an EV first from the bottom up. It's available with two battery configurations, with the long range model claiming 261 miles of driving range. And, while it's slotted as an entry-level EV, it brings some nice touches like a roomy cabin, heated seats and a modern infotainment system.

      I noticed at the end that there's a white 2024 Kona ICE there. Looking forward to seeing that review, even though I'm leaning towards the EV for my 3rd Kona lease this year.

    I own the 2022 Hyundai kona electric. Terrific car exceeds the advertised range, zero costs in repairs and maintenance. Thanks to very low overnight electricity costs (2.7cents/kwh) very cheap to operate. Previously I owned for nine years the Nissan leaf also an amazingly frugal car but highly limited range. EVs are the way to go if! You can charge the. At home

    should be noted that the Kona does not qualify for the EV tax credit. But Hyundai has been offering a factory rebate for 7,500 since the start of the year. So out the door price is even less. Tough typical dealership problem I've noticed a few trying to pocket the rebate for themselves.

    • @razorrich

      Hyundai builds all its EVs outside the U.S. That’s a qualifier for the tax credit.
      To my understanding, they’re in the process of constructing a EV factory in U.S.

    Some of us just like SMALL vehicles. I dont WANT to 'upgrade' to a larger SUV. this is actually slightly bigger than I want.
    The seat was NOT comfortable for me at all - i had to use 2 cushions because the 'bolstering' was too deep for me and the headrest too far forward - I'm small-framed and 5'2.
    with the cushions, though, i really am loving it.

    I have a limited ICE 2024 kona and love the shifter placement-only took a week or two to get the right muscle memory but was still easy from the start. I’m 7700 miles in and really like the car overall. Thankfully the limited trim get a few less hard plastics on the inside

      I remember when I got my 2019 Kona (now driving a 2022). I kept turning off the car (push button start/stop), then reaching for the keys on the side of the steering wheel (which weren't there, because it's a push start/stop). Took me almost 6 months to break 45+ years of that habit!! 🙂

    4/18/24 UPDATE: I test drove the KIA Niro PHEV and the interior was extremely comfortable (SX Touring) and similar to the Kona. Will test drive a Kona EV soon. Only thing I didn't like with Niro is the Infotainment and Ventilation buttons are the same. There's a switch to go back and forth between audio and ventilation settings. Plus it's all tough screen, while Kona has physical buttons. Also, the center console is roomier on the Kona over Niro. Which to get? Good question, as I don't have an answer yet.
    I am leasing a 2022 Kona Limited ICE (and leased a 2019 Kona Limited ICE before that). Now that I'm considering Kona #3 this fall, I did some math and the Kona Limited EV would be CHEAPER than the Kona Limited ICE because you DO get the Federal tax credit off the MSRP when leasing!!! Plus, I get reimbursed from my local utility company for installing a Level 2 charger. Really considering going EV this year as I am finding it VERY HARD to deal with Toyota dealerships in getting to check out a hybrid, and the Corolla Cross hybrid at that. Plus, for the money, Kona gives you MUCH MORE features than Toyota. As Toyota may have a better reputation for engines and hybrid drive trains, their sales teams are a-holes and still charging above MSRP because, as one told me, "they can sell hybrids at whatever price and people are willing to pay for it".

  • @aquaticko
    @aquaticko 2 місяці тому +1

    I will say about the lack of storage space in the interior, I do appreciate that the center console is--as a consequence--very low. Yes, storage space is nice, but so is the perception of SPACE, which a lot of modern cars lack even though cars are as big as they've ever been. Giving the driver's position a "cockpit" feel has been en vogue for a long time now, but feeling like you have room to relax is highly underrated.

    Surprised that CR would say that having the charging port at the front is a good thing so you can just drive into a charging location. It’s safer to back into a spot then you can drive out as it’s easier to see around you.

    • @sircompo
      @sircompo 2 місяці тому +1

      Totally! That inexplicably common logic is flawed. The perceived convenience of 'driving right in' applies to 'driving right out' if the charging point is on the back, except without the added danger of poor pedestrian/vehicle visibility.
      I suspect it's just something said by people who aren't comfortable reversing a car because they're bad drivers! 😁

    • @VMYeahVN
      @VMYeahVN 2 місяці тому

      It's not really that important when cars have all the sensors and back up cameras these days. Having the port up front is good for charging stalls because some cars have it on the "wrong" side of the vehicle and it makes a car have to take up two spots at certain charges and it causes a congestion issue at charging stations.

    Just a few seconds in to the video and I've already dismissed this as an option. I absolutely hate having to reverse out of charging spaces with my Leaf (it's so much more risky than reversing in), so a front-mounted charging socket is deal breaker for me.
    Who's with me? Who's not, and why?

    • @VMYeahVN
      @VMYeahVN 2 місяці тому +1

      I don't see how that's an issue since the car has auto breaking and sensors and what not. Especially when the odds that someone might run into you are just the same if you pull out of a spot the other way anyway. Parking lots suck and there's always a chance of a collision and no matter what direction you pull out, you still have to pull out 2 to 3 feet before you can see something coming. This seems like a kind of silly thing to be a total dealbreaker to me personally.
