When my grandad taught me how to make a ghillie he told me something along the lines of "Nature rarely has perfect patterns, so your ghillie suit shouldn't have perfect patterns. A messy, imperfect ghille suit, is a good ghillie suit." Excellent job on the suit and tutorial. This is an excellent example of an imperfect ghillie suit that'll blend in better than any perfect suit.
Also something important is if your making a ghillie suit from the beginning so without a base take a camouflage like multicam because that’s a lighter colour. It’s easier to adapt a lighter ghillie to a darker environment than to adapt a dark ghillie to a lighter environment
That's awesome. this is the best instruction video for the ghillie around by far. Just FYI, what you called Jute is the burlap and what you called burlap is the jute.
Thanks, Doug, great vid. Even KM hasn't showed this type of video where he crafts and talks about it. This way you can see the result and understand how to do it better.
I agree he's very good at describing the steps and why. Alot like how Josef describes guns. I definitely like this format. Kinda reminds me of Bob Ross as he paints. Always showing and explaining why the steps are useful and how to do them.
I'm literally gonna use this to scare the kids who take more than the set amount of candy on Halloween. Just yeet out of the bushes screaming like a banshee. Bravo six, going dark screaming monster.
I don’t understand why people always make ghillies with bits and pieces spread out all over, with the mindset to just cover it and mix it up. Yes, that’s decent in general, but nature doesn’t grow in bits and pieces, it grows in clumps. I would think it would be better to have a few areas of the suit with larger bundles of one or another artificial materials. Macro vs micro camouflage. If you have micro camouflage everywhere, your suit becomes more of a dark bundle of the hodgepodged material that doesn’t break up the human outline very well. Makes you look more like a Wookiee. Ghillie suits are typically used by snipers, so macro patterns are more important for breaking up the human outline at distance than micro ones, which are more important if you are facing counter sniper. But if that’s the case, you’d want to position yourself behind a thermal sniper veil against a modern enemy, in which case, the micro patterns are less important anyhow. Jute and burlap should be used for creating a fullness to the suit. If you’ve used a ghillie and done your ghillie wash, these end up clumping and looking very unnatural up close, but create depth and shadows that are important. Use different variations of the colors you’re trying to blend with. Artificial leaves are part of the micro because leaves fall all over, while raffia imitates grass and grass grows in bundles, not sparsely (aka macro). One thing for sure that he didn’t bring attention to is breaking up your head and shoulder outline. This is where a macro pattern of raffia with burlap AND jute underneath to give it depth and fullness would be good bundled up particularly heavy on one side between the neck and the shoulder, to round out that outline, and then another larger bundle on the other side closer to the top of your deltoid where it meets the shoulder…. I think people are still focused on the old ways of camouflage with macro patterns, or micro patterns only, when you need both to effectively blend the human profile with your surroundings. One Company’s camo pattern that works EXCEPTIONALLY well in breaking up the human outline without even the aid of nature imitating peripherals is PNUMA OUTDOORS. Their Caza Camo, licensed through Veil Camo, is EXCEPTIONAL. Their use of macro and micro patterns with color is simply a masterpiece. This is something you would want to imitate in your ghillie. If you do go with micro throughout the entire ghillie, you will want to dust or ink the pieces you are hanging off of it sporadically across the suit and then just use natural veg from your surroundings in the field for your macro patterns.
There is one thing you can put on that I'm not sure if it would work or not. So basically you can put just random trash on the suit then put trash around where you are to make it seem more real, but I'm pretty sure that in airsoft they keep trash off the field. Then in real life and paying with your friends (if you have which I bet you don't) it would be more effective.
It seems like this crazy hard thing to craft a ghillie, but this one is almost crafted out of the box AND you can buy quality artificial foliage and raffia.
What i used: Novritsch Ghillie suit (but you can take any mesh based ghillie suit with 3D leaves for that) , cotton fisher net (amazon), burlap strings (helikontex), ink (paint store), textile glue (hardware store), jute strings and jute roll (amazon), raffia , 3D Leaves, brown zip ties, and some natural vegetation
I hate jute. It sheds fine particles for ever, take it out in an apartment and do the floors right after. Also I got a bit of allergy from jute at the beginning. Testing all synthetic ghillie now
So I think this is a good suit overall but you should never make patterns you should randomly attach the jute and other fabrics that way you will be less notable and seem more natural because you don’t have a pattern-I do like how you did it though
Let me paint a little happy ghillie over here and over there just wherever you feel like putting your ghillie! Remember folks this is your creation nobody can tell you what to do with your ghillie just paint a little happy ghillie anywhere you like. And I'll see you folks next week thanks again for watching painting with Bob Ghillie.

Very useful video. Its always better to be taught something by someone who actually knows what he's doing and not just guessing.
Felt a bit like "The Joy of Painting", but instead of pictures, with Ghillie suits hahahah
Lol good show

Doug is really good at this stuff
you could even make a home made ghillie just using the net, the bob ross of ghillies
The video is very good structured
Yay a new vid

Awesome video, like all time
You're my fashion guru ❤
Thank you. This level of information and the insight you provide is fantastic. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge.
Oh look a Ian McCollum (Forgotten Weapons) lookalike
Remind me a old tutorial from "Les frères Hublots" Aka "Gearlocker"

Thank you so much! Very useful!
Bro just use 8 oak leaves in a crafting table
I need to make one in time for halloween
BTW guys you can also sew your leaf's onto your suite but it does take some time to sew
Thank you for this, I HAVE WANTED TO DO THIS FOREVER!!
I actually decided to make my own suit because I saw a guy in an indoor CQB in full ghillie. Kinda funny
But what if your field has piles of leaves everywhere i think i want to be covered in leaves
And that's why you craft according the place you play, I know people with 3 sets of ghillie for different environments and times of year
great vid

How would you craft a pine forest floor?

I want to make one for my cousin
Do you need the net or could one also attatch stuff right onto the mesh of the ghillie itself?
u need sth to place it on
Any lists of what you need to make this?
