Kelvin Harrison did a great job as Taka. Did anybody else notice the physical and vocal change? Before he felt "betrayed" his voice was lighthearted and he had a funny like personality. I feel like it makes sense having them be adoptive brothers, I mean as a kid I didn’t think too much why they look unrelated, I assumed back then could be because one of the parents could be a dark lion and therefore Scar must been born like that too, and that maybe his parents chose Mufasa to be king, but now over the years I feel like this makes sense. I have yet to see it, but it honestly looks promising, I really hope it’s as good as the positive reviews say, despite the negativity.😄
The music was one of my favorite parts. The songs are so catchy and keep getting stuck in my head. I predict Miranda will win an award “I always wanted a brother” and maybe even “tell me it’s you” but we shall see. I love a good origin story. They are my favorites because I like knowing the story behind how someone became the individual they are. I’m a masters level social work intern, and my education and experiences have taught me that instead of judging someone for their behavior, we need to ask the question “what happened to you?” Meaning we ask someone about the trauma and hurt and pain from their past that’s lead to their behavior. This causes us to be more empathetic and understanding. Of course, this doesn’t excuse someone’s bad behavior. Rather, it leads us to be less judgmental. I love origin stories because we get to learn about what happened to that character. Scar, for example. The first factor leading to his behavior is a poor father figure. Obasi actually treated Taka very poorly and set a bad example for how to be a king and leader. That’s one issue. The other is Taka feeling a profound sense of betrayal from his parents and adopted brother. Now, these problems of course don’t excuse Scar’s behavior, but rather give us a better idea of why he is the way he is. This story is a good example of what can when trauma and profound suffering go unchecked, though not everyone with a history of trauma or suffering goes on to be a villain. If therapy existed their world and someone intervened early in Taka’s life, would he have turned out the way he did? Maybe. Anyone, I love talking about these things.
the lion king has been my special interest since i was little, and though i really disliked the 2019 remake i have honestly been kinda looking forward to mufasa😭 all the reviews i’ve seen have been negative so it’s nice seeing someone who also loves the lion king have some praise for it, definitely gets my hopes back up about it ^_^
You should see it. I enjoyed it as well, MUCH better than the remake - they improved on the expressions and character of the lions and made the environments colourful and interesting. I hope you get to see it!
I loved it!! I agree that it went back to Rafiki a bit much. But I think it was just to release the tension a bit for younger audiences. Very tense !!!
As a fellow lion king groupie, I have to basically agree with your assessment. All except for the "bye bye". Gotta say, I chuckled every time I heard him say that. It was a hilarious twist that you wouldn't expect. I cried, I laughed, I couldn't leave the screen until the end.. I was so throughly irritated by their addition of kion that I am glad it didn't happen until the very end. Not a fan AT ALL of the lion guard. But at the same time, I understand (abet distastefully) why they did it. I feel like it was an attempt to encourage the younger kids, who were first introduced to lion king through the lion guard, with someone who is familiar with them. I also loved the fact that they addressed the whole "simba and Nala are siblings" things by having Nala as a tiny cub from the pride Mufasa took over. It was a cute surprise to see. I think the story really helped to boost the original lion king, and aside from minor distraction with the cuts and the kinda "fill-in" songs, I think it was a decent movie. Do I regret seeing it in theaters? Absolutely not! Would I see it again in theaters? Nope, and only because of the kion thing. (Can you tell I really don't like lion guard??) It mainly disappoints me because I really was looking forward to a simba's pride remake, and with kion, that's probably not going to happen now as that's a totally different storyline. I will also add, the relationships between Mufasa, scar, and sarabi makes a bit more sense with this movie.
My only issue with that tiny cub being Nala, is that she and Simba look to be a similar age, and Mufasa would have been around 3yrs old with a short mane like that. He is probably 5/6 with his adult mane when he and Sarabi have Simba, but then the original question of Nala's father still remains 😆 It could be that Nala's mother came to the Pride Lands a few years later while pregnant after losing her pride (like Sarabi) and they took her in? Male lions will "steal" females from other prides and take in lone, outcast females but probably kill any resulting cubs, as the males know who they have or haven't mated with.. 🤔 Now I just have more questions 😆
Hmm.. I didn't really think about that. Lol I guess Disney will never let us know that answer. There are rumors involving the outcasts aka zera's pride of lighter colored lions...
Hi! I love seeing other lion king groupies out here. I think with the lion guard yes we adults might not like it but it is canon and a good thing to add.
@natashter I apologize, but where was lion guard cannon? Honestly don't remember it being remotely mentioned in any of the 3 other movies (or remake), the video games or anything until the recent generations. Did I miss something somewhere in my teens?? I must know because lion king was my entire childhood, and literally fueled my fascination with animals, specially big cats. Like, we're talking about wearing out numerous copies of the vhs. Lol I even had the golden books around the lion king. I didn't hear anything about the lion guard until my son was watching Disney Jr one day and was like "absolutely not!" and had to educate him on the real lion king.
@ lion guard is a thing and made by Disney just like the lion king. The same people made both. It’s part of the official story no matter how much people don’t want it to be. Personally I love the lion king to the point where it’s weird and don’t care for lion guard. But it is still official. I’m not sure why you’re so pressed about a tv show but no amount of complaining is going to change anything. Nobody is telling you to like it but it’s always going to be part of the lion king but you are an adult so you are going to have to deal with disappointment and accept it.
Thank you for no spoilers. I love Lion King just as much as you do, and I have very similar opinions to you, and you loving it, makes me feel better 😊.
I loved the 2019 remake, and I loved Mufasa too. Great review. I can understand the criticisms of LK19 & MufasaLK and I respect people’s opinions that don’t like them.
I loved the movie way more than I thought I did. I’m surprised at the number of people I’ve seen after the film who kinda thought Mufasa was the bad guy though. I personally thought he did everything in his power to help Taka and it just didn’t work put
I liked this better than the 2019 film but I wasn't a fan of the music. The animated film had some iconic tunes but Mufasa's songs were kinda cringe (I'm not the biggest theater fan). I agree with you on the Kiara scenes. I loved the scene where Sarabi convinced Mufasa that he is the one.
I’ll admit as a lion king fan. The movie wasn’t as terrible as I thought it was going to be. Heck seeing Rafiki I felt the voice performance was very close to Robert Guillaume( 1994 Rafiki) so that’s a win in my case And if I could change something maybe the motivation of Taka turning to Scar could be handled better. But a separate continuity from 1994 lore it works for what it was
I just got back from seeing Mufasa, and I too enjoyed it. It was an interesting take on Mufasa and Scar's origins, I like how they added more facial expressions to the characters (which was great, considering that the lack of those expressions was one of the 2019 remake's biggest problems), and it was really cool seeing the chemistries between the characters develop and change. Also, I'm so glad they put in the tribute to James Earl Jones in the beginning of the film. When I saw that, I was like, "nice, we're off to a good start". Timon and Pumbaa's moments in the film, meanwhile, were a mixed bag. Like, I like how they were brought back for this film, but some of their humor wasn't all that funny for me, but the moments that were took me by surprise. Also, I'm so glad Rafiki got more to do in this film than in the 2019 remake. Rafiki's role in this film was truly awesome with a lot of his wisdom speaking lots of volumes to how much of a great character he is. Rafiki, you're the real MVP. As a Lion King fan, I'm definitely proud to have seen this film. It may not be as good as the original 1994 film (which was a no-brainer), but it was still pretty solid.
😂😂😂😂 me to I was like yeah the bye bye song was pushing it but the rest wasn’t bad with my Hakuna katana wallet and long live the king hat and Mufasa popcorn bowl 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm from Argentina, and here there was a good round of applause when the movie ended. I honestly thought everyone had enjoyed it as much as I did (I even watched it twice and I’m listening to the soundtrack on spotify). There’s a lot of harsh criticism about the movie, which I think is unnecessary. I feel like many people might have been expecting something epic, just as impactful as the first one. But you know what? I remembered that the first time I walked out of the theater after watching the original back in the 90s, I was just humming 'Hakuna Matata' and fascinated by the lions. This time, I walked out humming 'I Always Wanted a Brother,' and 'Milele' feels more beautiful to me every time. Honestly, I feel like people just need to give it time to grow on them.
I was pleasantly surprised with how well the plot changes fit into the original animated film as well as the animated spin-offs/sequels. My main criticism was just the timing felt off, especially the beginning, it felt very rushed and I really wanted more time spent on both Mufasa and his parents while he was a cub as well as more time on him and Scar together as cubs. The visuals were stunning, and the music was good especially “Tell Me It's You” and “Milele”, everything about both those songs and their scenes was genuinely stunning. The odd thing with the music is it seems you really have to listen to each song at least twice to truly get into the lyrics and the melodies, at least that’s what I’ve found. Kiros’s song was good but the bye-bye definitely felt a bit too goofy or too much like a childish villain song to really show the sinister side of him. Definitely enjoyed the film and will watch it again, I almost wonder if it’ll be like the music and get better each time you watch it.
@@Alejandroigarabide Mufasa got washed downstream. No way his parents made it past the point taka found him Best course of action is to backtrack in my opinion
I think (and correct me if I’m wrong) Mufasa partially believed his parents were dead, and that the river flooded, meaning it could have washed him down a different stream or something
Gosh, you voiced everything I love and thought could be a bit stronger. I’m a bit sad with how many are saying it’s a terrible movie because it’s not. Is it the best I’ve ever seen? No. Did I enjoy it and watch it again? Absolutely. And I’ve fallen in love with the love song. Small Spoiler alert below!! I’m also a big fan of Kiara and Rafiki’s talk about outcasts. Because that’s such a nice set up for the sequel and fits her character completely.
I quite liked it. It wasn’t perfect but it was an actual movie and not a corporate copy of a film like 2019. The animals had expressions, the colors and visuals were actually beautiful and vibrant this time. The songs were all great besides the last one. Story needed some work and Timon and Pumbaa weren’t that funny but I liked it.
im honestly just annoyed that lin manuel miranda didn't cook with the music. i mean like one or two of the songs were ok but there was always some random thing in them that ruined them
I completely agree with what you said. I went in with low expectations and it was better than I thought it was going to be. I was super happy to see Kion at the end, however, Timon and pumbaa were really annoying. I thought they were alright in the first but they took too much freedom in this. The expressions were a lot better than I expected. The many places where they paid homage to the original movie made me really happy. 😊
I wasn’t a big fan of the live action remake, but I LOVED Mufasa. It had unexpected storylines, and it was a nice take to answer questions one may have from the original movie.
You saw both on the same day? I mean Mufasa and Sonic The Hedgehog 3 I'm sure one is better than the other. Sonic The Hedgehog 3 is out in the UK now but yeah........
I’m with you I loved it! I saw it in theaters. I would say Mufasa earned his King- hood. It was amazing story telling. It makes sense to me looking back at the 1994 movie like you did. The visuals were Gorgeous!
The bye bye song made me cringe in the movie theater 😂 I also didn't like how scar got his name.... It was weird and I felt his villain side was rushed
Yeah it felt rushed, I think had it been any slower it would have been wayyy more emotional, so maybe it was done this way with younger audiences in mind? I found the song cringe to start with but now I think it's a bop!! 😂
I went and saw the movie with my dad on my birthday. I grew up with the Lion King as a kid, and it’s still my favorite movie, so naturally, I was super excited to see this. I honestly didn’t mind the references to other Lion King media. I thought it was pretty funny.
I don't know.I have to completely disagree on most of your points None of the songs were catchy or memorable. Nor could they show the true talent of the voice.Actors it was just crazy as the only reason it was remembered
Yeah Admiteddly I havent seen it but to me that's just not fair to scar to be born royal and then some orphan urchin usurps UR THRONE! No wonder he's so bitter in the OG story.
I think this film definitely felt like it had way more of an single vision than the 2019 film. There were multiple shots and scenes in this film that had a more artistic flair to them and the film as a whole of course looked phenomenal with the CGI. "I always wanted a brother" absolutely slapped, loved that song but tbh that's about it for me. The rest of the songs weren't great at all and I just didn't like this story being told the way it was. The premise of seeing the origin of Scar and Mufasa is a really good and interesting idea but I think it would have been way better and more effective in the classic 2d animation style
So basically this film is like Lion King 1½ except with Mufasa & Scar? Not gonna lie. That's a bad sign for me. As someone who ADORES! the original Lion King and enjoys Simbas Pride. I have never enjoyed Lion King 1½
As a fellow Lion King fan who grew up with the original film, my thoughts are about the same as yours, Brian. My buddies (who I often think of as my brothers) and I enjoyed Mufasa tremendously. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! 🦁 👑 🐾
Yeah they did rush Mufasa and Taka growing up and becoming brothers. Taka considered Mufasa his brother right away but they spent months together before leaving Taka’s Pride even though it didn’t feel like it. But I still loved the movie. I can’t wait to buy the 4K
Wait a second... if Mufasa and scar aren't true blood brothers, why was Mufasa pissed off when scar didn't attend Simba's ceremony? Isn't that the whole reason he cared that scar wasn't there?🤔
In the original Scar says "he got the shallow end of the gene pool" clearly stating they were blood brothers. If what they said in Mufasa was true Scar would've never said that.
This was a great movie. Personally being a huge fan of the entire Lion King franchise and knowing about the original story, this was a Great Movie. The way they changed the original "Tale of Two Brothers" story to fit into live action. The expressiveness of this movie is just amazing. We had much time bonding with the characters. One problem I saw with this movie was that it was a bit too fast-paced and it was just trying to get to the main story which I wouldn't say is a bad thing but it felt like it was going too fast. For one instance the amount of time we saw with Mufasas original parents could have been longer and therefore could have had a greater impact on the audience at the time he loses them. Also, we could have gotten more time with Mufasa and Taka's Pride. Other than this pacing issue the movie was great and I would suggest watching it in the theaters as it will give you more time to encourage the visual story this movie tells. Everything from the Direction to the Voice Acting was spectacular and I would watch it Again.
Hi Brian my name is Braelin and I’m 14 years old and a fellow Disney nerd I’m also known as the youngest Disney historian because of my knowledge of this 100 year old corporation. The one reason I wasn’t fond of the idea of this movie is because it doesn’t make sense, for instance Disney doesn’t follow up their past adaptations like the tale of two brothers scar was said to have gotten his scare by a wildebeest and in the lion guard he got it from a snake so the concept wasn’t truly a hit for me but I will say this I’ve watched clips and songs and trailers but I haven’t seen the actual movie so I’ll go watch it and then come back. Hope you see my comment
I'm a Lion King superfan as well (I'm even an adult Lion Guard fan) and while I enjoyed it, I do wish they would've named at least one set of parents Ahadi and Uru to keep with the widely accepted fan canon from the Disney non-canon books. Even if they kept the entire plot the same, it would've been nice to see that homage via namesakes. Very unrelated, but I really hated the "bye-bye" song too; that was cringier than anything in TLG.

I have yet to see it, but it honestly looks promising, I really hope it’s as good as the positive reviews say, despite the negativity.😄
I really thought it answered the questions better than having some other reason why Scar wasn’t the king
I LOVED MUFASA!!! I saw it last night and it was amazing! I'm also a huge lion king super fan and I loved what you had to say about the movie too
I loved it!!
He is probably 5/6 with his adult mane when he and Sarabi have Simba, but then the original question of Nala's father still remains 😆
It could be that Nala's mother came to the Pride Lands a few years later while pregnant after losing her pride (like Sarabi) and they took her in?
Male lions will "steal" females from other prides and take in lone, outcast females but probably kill any resulting cubs, as the males know who they have or haven't mated with.. 🤔
Now I just have more questions 😆
Love you Brian, your content is amazing and I LOVE MUFASA ❤❤❤
Nice to hear. I'm a big Lion King fan myself.
Ok Brian Hull. which film is better, Sonic movie 3 or Mufasa: The Lion King?
I had a good time with it. I really liked the change of scenery and how vibrant it was.
Heck seeing Rafiki I felt the voice performance was very close to Robert Guillaume( 1994 Rafiki) so that’s a win in my case
And if I could change something maybe the motivation of Taka turning to Scar could be handled better.
I'm so jealous of your Mufasa theater merch! There was only Sonic stuff in the UK 😭
Loved the movie!
Waited for so long for his mufasa lion king review and its finally out and i agreed on everything he said 😅
😂😂😂😂 me to I was like yeah the bye bye song was pushing it but the rest wasn’t bad with my Hakuna katana wallet and long live the king hat and Mufasa popcorn bowl 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@ashleypray4612😂
The only thing that didn't make sense in the movie is why Mufasa didn't follow the river up stream to go back to his family
the flood took him so far from his family
@toluwaseolaoyewilliams3846 during the pan out scene, you can clearly see a river path he can follow
His parents didn't live up the river. They were just passing by in their way to Milele.
@@Alejandroigarabide Mufasa got washed downstream. No way his parents made it past the point taka found him
Best course of action is to backtrack in my opinion
I think (and correct me if I’m wrong) Mufasa partially believed his parents were dead, and that the river flooded, meaning it could have washed him down a different stream or something
Theory on why they’re making Scar and Mufasa not related is so they can make Kovu Scar’s son, why else introduce Kirara?
Story needed some work and Timon and Pumbaa weren’t that funny but I liked it.
im honestly just annoyed that lin manuel miranda didn't cook with the music. i mean like one or two of the songs were ok but there was always some random thing in them that ruined them
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
Man i LOVED it. It filled in the details i was eager to see, and i was a tearball from the opening.
I also loved this so much!! Can't wait to watch again and own
From the way you review this, it makes me so excited to go see it! 😂😅❤
Brian Hull is a Super Lion King franchise fan 🦁
I agree that “Bye Bye” is a bit silly, but then I remember that Scar had a Boy Scout motto as his maxim.
I grew up watching the lion king and the the new version does look good 👍
You saw both on the same day?
I loved this movie! It was so good. ❤ had me crying.
I went and saw the movie with my dad on my birthday. I grew up with the Lion King as a kid, and it’s still my favorite movie, so naturally, I was super excited to see this. I honestly didn’t mind the references to other Lion King media. I thought it was pretty funny.
best nap I had this year.
I loved the soundtrack so much!! I cant lie the song 'tell me it's you' is coming for 'can you feel the love tonight's throne.
On a big dog, this movie was fire idc what anybody else says
Great Review Brian I Can’t Wait To See It In Theaters Hopefully Christmas Eve or on Christmas Day 🦁🥰 Merry Christmas To You and Your Family ✨🎄✝️👼🏻✨
TLK was the first movie I ever watched I LOVED THIS MOVIE SM
Well that’s good. I actually saw those theater merch. But I haven’t bought any of them. But I did bought one from Sonic 3 and I still have it
Kiros was friggin phenomenal villain
Taka: I always want a Brother
“2 Years Later”
Scar: Long live The King
I don't know.I have to completely disagree on most of your points
None of the songs were catchy or memorable.
Nor could they show the true talent of the voice.Actors it was just crazy as the only reason it was remembered
Watching this in 3D was sureal
Yeah Admiteddly I havent seen it but to me that's just not fair to scar to be born royal and then some orphan urchin usurps UR THRONE! No wonder he's so bitter in the OG story.
Not quite
I love what you do
I was waiting for you to do your review on this! I know you loved the 2019 remake.
Have you played sonic adventure 2? It really helps you understand the movie better.
Now that I have finally seen it, I also really love it 😊 I agree with everything you said
Love your content Brian!!❤❤❤❤
WAIT A SEC JEJ DIED???? WHEN? HOW? I don't keep up with Hollywood news as im just not interested in the drama of it all but I had no idea he had died!
The Disney Adults in this comment section is insane
@@ChuckE.CheesesIllinois Fr, it's sad as hell
Happy sunday morning, Brian, take care and God bless you. Greetings from Colombia to you as well
So basically this film is like Lion King 1½ except with Mufasa & Scar? Not gonna lie. That's a bad sign for me. As someone who ADORES! the original Lion King and enjoys Simbas Pride. I have never enjoyed Lion King 1½
Its a prequel though! :) I watched it today and was apprehensive, and absolutely loved it.
As a fellow Lion King fan who grew up with the original film, my thoughts are about the same as yours, Brian. My buddies (who I often think of as my brothers) and I enjoyed Mufasa tremendously. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! 🦁 👑 🐾
@@PhillipNeumeier Glaze
Yeah they did rush Mufasa and Taka growing up and becoming brothers. Taka considered Mufasa his brother right away but they spent months together before leaving Taka’s Pride even though it didn’t feel like it. But I still loved the movie. I can’t wait to buy the 4K
i just hope Disney doesn't remake ice Age and Rio
It definitely works. It IS perfect and people wanting Scar and Mufasa to be actual brothers should be side eyed. 😅😅
It’d be cool if you can make a voice impression video of the characters
I actually really liked it. And loved the music. I wished there was more music!
Wait a second... if Mufasa and scar aren't true blood brothers, why was Mufasa pissed off when scar didn't attend Simba's ceremony? Isn't that the whole reason he cared that scar wasn't there?🤔
Scar is still an uncle to Simba even though not blood related.
It's like if a best friend didn't attend a baby shower
Thank you for doing your Sonic 3 review next week because I'm not watching it until the 26th! 😃
Brian, you need to do a ranking video of all the Lion King movies!!!
This film has got me back into the fandom!!
This would be dead last fr
@ I think it was definitely better than 2019
i was so happy when i heard that they added kion into the movie
What a coincidence, I'm going to go see it today! I really hope it's good, I love the music.
I liked the movie…I’m going to see it again in 3D
Excellent shirt for the video. Did you plan to wear that shirt for the video or was it just random?
Love your content Brian ❤❤❤❤❤!!!!
Will most definitely check out this movie! It looks gorgeous!
Yes soundtrack on repeat !
A lion is a king of the territory he claims. Sometimes its a large area sometimes its a tiny area. Mufasas dad was a king in his own rite.
Well I involuntarily said “Bye Bye” when Kiros was defeated. Then I laughed at the pay off that my mind made up.
Will they ever make a Mufasa cartoon?
I like your channel so much my name is seivion fisher I have a autism I like the lion king and the lion guard
Kind of a bummer you liked this lazy cash grab more than Sonic the Hedgehog 3. 🙁
Long live the hull!
hey brian hull how does stitch and palpatine sound together
