I have anemia too. It’s very scary! I was supposed to get blood transfusions but I never went back’ I’m worried that now I’ll end up with something else.
I took a blood test yesterday, was called in 5 hours later into A&E because my haemoglobin was 68 and I was severely anemic, stayed overnight and was given blood in the morning. It was perfectly fine tbh. Don’t be scared if you need one!
I tried to do it once, but it made my eyes blurry, felt light headed, and couldn't stand because of the fact that I have small blood vessels. Now my friends think I don't do it because I'm a scaredy cat.
Yes we prefered to use large bore 18 or 2o Gage cannula size, because with small cannulization , blood transfusion will be slow and even stopped after some time.
How are you doing now and how did it go? When I had mine done the hospital gave me plenty of Benadryl incase I had a reaction. When it started, because blood is thicker I felt it going in. It was uncomfortable for me but they were able to wrap my arm up in a bandage to help not feel it
I didnt know how my relative died from blood transfusion.. any ideas? We’re not close as our mother have different father, so i dont know anything but i still want to know what went wrong
In my 14 years of experience I didn't see that any patient expired due to transfusion, if blood transfusion done according to the blood transfusion policy according to the JCIA.
I went in today and the doctor gave me the option of getting the transfusion or building up iron. I chose iron which was prescribed 3x's per day My level in the ER was 5.5. Maybe this is a possibility for you? I went in thinking I was going to get a transfusion.
They take a tiny bit of donor blood first in a separate pack to test for all manner of diseases including STIs. Only once they've cleared the test will the blood be sent to hospitals for people who need it.
as they say in the toubyou video', you're more likely to be struck by lightning in the next month than getting an infection of any kind from a blood transfusion delivered by the NHS
Really, getting your blood drawn doesn't really hurt. As long as the needle is in the vein and not the nerve, you'll hardly feel it. Doctors have been doing it to me since I was 8 to test my medicine. The only problem with donating is it takes over an hour to get it done (again, it doesn't really hurt, it's just really boring).
