- Working Equitation. Speed test. Beja, Portugal. April 2008.
The rider is the amazing Pedro Torres and the horse is the fantastic Oxidado - my favorite horse of all. He is a Lusitano.
Learn how to ride this sport with the E-book from Amazon: " working equitation with joao lynce".
He makes it look so easy, no wonder people don't think it's a sport, they have no idea about the years and years of practice behind that....
I never get tired of watching this! I've bin watching since 2008 🤠
Same!!
Very nice quiet, respectful handling. Good job!
Those lead changes.
What a lovely pair!
The reason the horse is working well is because the rider rides well.
i have to watch this video at least once a week, i love the connection between the rider and that horse. makes me wanna go to portugal and learn this. just inspiration for me and my own horse
This is ridiculously amazing! Fantastic!
Wish they had this in the States, it looks like a blast to do.
OMG!!! What a treat.
A genuine collected horse pushing from behind. Watching the horses hind legs as he works, he never stumbles nor gets out of rhythm.
A fantastic rider on a magnificent horse. Thank you for sharing.
Knowing nothing about horses, or riding, all I can say is...how beautiful.
Best precision riding I've ever seen.
@BridgetKroger
as said before. the rider is portuguese, the horse is portuguese. means: from portugal. not from spain.
big big difference. ;)
Wow! The communication between the two is incredible! I wish my horse and I had that kind of understanding, lol. They are truly in unison. Fabulous!
This just looks unreal- like.. animated. And the rider and horse both look so comfortable!!!!!
That is an AMAZING horse.
Amazing. The horse looks so responsive and willing, look at those quick turns and that acceleration.. The rider is fantastic as well, it's almost like he's just sitting there - his cues are so subtle that they're just about invisible, and he's so quiet in the saddle. Fantastic. Amazing horsemanship.
beautiful. He has good forward motion throughout the whole course, very peppy! I only noticed him break stride once & the side-pass was so quick! loved it!
Awesome eqitation and soooooooooo much fun...love it. Wish it was me. So good with his body and subtle movements...his horse sooooo tuned in to him too.
such a quiet rider, really great example of excellent horsemanship
Gorgeous horse! I love how he moves and carries himself. Must be amazing to ride, so responsive! :)
This is really amazing, it seems so easy and the rider and horse really work together. The horse thinks:'What should I do know boss?' He really helps by thinking and trying to do the right thing. I love it.
Absolutely beautiful to watch. The horse, besides being gorgeous, is so well-collected and responsive. It was wonderful to see such a lovely horse and rider.
Both are amazing! Thanks for posting this. The rest of the world has a lot to learn from the Doma Vaquera masters.
Pedro Torres is one of my favourite horsemen. Search YT for videos of him, parts 1,2,3 and 4.
Oh wow! This is one of the best horse videos I've ever seen!
Wow; beautiful equitation! LOVE this work. :)
i am in LOVE with this horse!
Wow. I love the bridge! This is just beautiful!
My friend rode Oxidado and says he rides like a dream. Pedro gave her dressage tips too :)
I would call this PERFECT rideability and perfect training! :)
Unbelievable. So amazing I won't let my horses watch or they'll have self-esteem issues! Beautifully done.
I could probably have done that when I was 9. Now, I am WAY out of practice. Fantastic performance!
wow... I'm stunned... this is just totally amazing and... still I don't know what to say... WOW
That horse is beautiful. He moves like I imagine a war horse to move :P
That's amazing. A real pleasure to watch.
wow thats amazing whata good rider and such a beautiful clever horse. wish I could pull of some of those stunts
Lusitanos are really good at working equitation. Viva Portugal!! The world champion of this art...
OOO that looks like fun, wish they had that kind of show here!!
Wow, he has a great relationship with his horse! They understand each other very nicely.
OMG that horse is incredible!!!!!!!
Simply magnificent!
Wow! This is awesome!!! It would be so cool if this was how we did trail classes in 4-H!
Awesome display of horsemanship - just great to watch!
Wow! I am no expert but love way these horses move. I have Pasos_Spanish horses too. I think headset natural for them. Just awesome control and collection. Seen vid of Lusitano bullfight. They are so agile
that's amazing, what a great pair!
AWESOME!! This looks like SOOO much fun!!!
Thanks for posting this. Nice to see such a well trained and willing horse and an excellent rider pairing.
WOW that's amazing! So cool! I had my first WE lession at my riding school last wednesday, we did it all in walk, and I thought that was pretty hard! This is... OMG! Someday I wanna be as good as him 8'D
Cool as hell! great horsemanship!
Amazing! Such a pleasure to watch.
I would so love to have a tide on a horse with that agility and collection. What fun!
Wow!! Great horsemanship!!
wow amazing wish they had something like this in the states or something similar
I just watched a Regional performance in Portugal on youtube and felt so nauseated at how those horses were handled that I had to come watch my fav. video of the wonderful Pedro Torres gracefully guide his horse through the speed test. *sigh* I am refreshed! :)
that horse is amazing!!!!
@georgiabates Andalusians and Lusitanos are ridden in curb bits when they finish their training, with the left hand, (when rider is right handed) so that they can do the Garocha (long pole rider picked up and stabbed at bull with), the other hand is to lie quietly on the right thigh when not being used for something.
That's cool! It's like a whole other style of riding - which makes me understand one of my horse's training a lot more! Like, just like with other styles, there's good and bad training, and she probably got the lower end of the spectrum on that one, so I understand! Yay I feel so smart!
Well ridden. Very impressive and awesome pair :)
@DaemiaBrandy
yes he is nice. and this is the speed test ( there are 2 more tests they have to pass. like eventing). And the speed test is not judged on the gaits or transitions - only by speed. In the maneability test and the dressage test the gaits and transitions etc. are judged.
Thats a crazy beautiful horse
one word...
Amazing
wow its like all the gymkhana events all in one. we gotta do thishere in cali!
this is gotta be the best working equitation performance i've seen so far! o so wish this sport grew exponetially bigger! it'd mean the salvation of our breed! stupid modern dressage standards are completely ruining the breeding program.
That looks like so much fun. LOTS of training goes into that. What a great team, that horse and rider are!
Nags2bitches, I ride western too, but it doesn't have to be dreadfully slow (unless you do pleasure). I compete in team penning, barrels, poles, gymkhana and obstacle courses. I trail ride for fun. My horse can slow it down when I want her to, but we never go that slow. Western can be lots of fun.
My God that was amazing.
WOW. Amazing horse, amazing rider :0)
Wow! that is sooo cool! i wish my pony would do lead changes like that ;]
Wow!!! Something to aspire to!
Wonderful riding- true harmony, pity we so seldom see this in the dressage arena.
Because, we do it for real. We ride our horses over trails, round up cattle /sheep and encounter the same obstacles out and about as we do in the show ring. The show ring is a reconstruction of what we meet out and about and we are supposedly marked on how we react to it.
What a fantastic pair
Most intelligent horse on the world, the Lusitano!
Stupendi cavalli e cavalieri
They are doing a fantastic job. Lusitanos are the best horses !!
Nice speed test!
He's a star, Oxidado!
@CaliforniaBlonde000
this sport is also for both men and women and all breeds - but this video is from portugal where mostly men ride on their national horse - the lusitano. and as stallions. in other countries it is ridden on all breeds - also cold bloods and ponys. WE is also divided into 3 ( or 4) divisons that each equipage has to do. a dressage test, a meneability test and a speed test. and then an optional cow test.
Yes, IALHA has Working Equitation! Check out more on Facebook, IALHA
Also at the IALHA Nationals!
That´s fantastic , excellent job !
I love the saddle I am willing to buy one that kind
geeez that takes so much skill!!!
great! I love lusitanos.... I wish I were rich and had one ;) K.
@katieskritterskorner Spanish equestrians were once considered the finest in the world. Being a vaquero was the ultimate for a horseman. Look at this riders balance and posture. He is truly one with his horse.
In this video, rider and horse are Portuguese.
wow, this is a lot fancyer than the working equitation where i go! :P nobody bothers with looking smart there :D
Now that is a connection!
Thanks for your answer. 158 cm=62inches=15 and a half hands 500 kg=1100 lbs. He looks bigger in the vid, maybe the rider is a small man?
I agree with you that he's a magnificent horse!
@IronwoodLeather Hahaha!! This comment made my day :)
I'm not going to let my horse watch this either! Don't want to shatter the inflated ego trip he's always on :)
MAGNIFIQUE !!!!
Awesome!!!
Now that is some impressive riding. How ever do you manage to remember the course?!?!
Did this team of rider and horse win? They were by far the smoothest and looked fastest from the videos posted, no breaks in gait, and no mistakes. I never saw a perfect running side pass like that.
beautiful horse
He couldn't have done it any better than that!
@georgiabates Yes it is. Ive done it but not at anywhere near that level.
this makes me want to get up from the computer and go ride my horse!
@EquitationChampion because what you're looking at is dressage. Look at the balance of the horse and rider. Look at the muscling of the horse. It's dressage - just not in a sand arena.
SO COOL!!!
yes he won.
he is fantastic.
that is what I call COOPERATION. awesome! :)
Oh myyy gooosh ! :D
The rider makes it seems so easy !
I know it are´nt x)
that's amazing!
