Just imagine if I moved to Iceland with a Maine Coon cat, I'd be nicknamed Gryla and I would be loved/feared in the community. I'd hire local punks to be my Yule lads and we'd spread mischief and Christmas cheer!

It's a Norwegian Forest cat. We had one and they are the BIGGEST, smartest and most loving cats.

Yay, part of my culture! But it's Jólakötturinn, with the J said like a "Y." Better yet, when you give the new garments, have a rune representing protection on it.

It makes sense that Jack Frost is both benevolent and malevolent. He's meant to be the embodiment of Winter, and although the weather in Winter can be nice and calm, it can also be chaotic and deadly.

In all countries we hear of large black cats roaming the country side that people think are panthers. So there could be large cats around

In the cold winter of 1859, Sant Claus lost nearly half of his gift-wrapping elves to a Yule cat. Be very afraid.

I remembered another movie and story that's kind like this legend and the story is The Snow Queen but the movie is titled Frozen and it's on Disney plus.

The art work is beautiful in this video. Is there a particular place that you found these pictures?

    Pelznickel oder Pelzmärtel.
    Nickel von Nikolaus.
In anderen Gegenden auch Knecht Ruprecht oder Krampus.
    Meist Begleiter des Nikolaus.

OK. i Now understand why gifts are given on or BEFORE Christmas Eve, (the Yule Cat legend). But just to ask out of cautionary curiosity?... What would happen to a single person who had no family? or a single child that was housed in an orphanage with no family? Or a homeless person with NO family nor home to go to for at least some type of warmth (at the very least?) If some strangers felt empathy and care for some stranger that did not seem to HAVE anyone caring, generous, or loving in his or her life, It the caring stranger offered the person little money to perhaps purchase a warm hat and a scarf and mittens, Does the same rules apply in the case the person Had to supply his or her own pieces of warming clothing items, would the person be considered NOT A VICTIM/Sacrifice the Yule Cat would be on the hunt for??? some of these legends TRULY fascinate and intrigue my mind, and Mysterious Curiosities,,,,

1964 we were off to war in Germany 1967 we returned to Canada.
We had to keep the KRAMPUS from pushing us out of our sandbox Hans Trapp, Belsnickle, and the rest we had to scrap with the worst we did we survived those who are still here and alive.
Hindsight is 2020 if we had only known.?

Jack Frost may well be widely known, but it's not universal, it's English. Anything with the prefix of Jack is English, Jack the lad, Jack of all trades, Jack the Ripper, etc.

I'm afraid there is absolutely no evidence to suggest 'Jack Frost' is of English origin.

I think the Yule Cat’s name isn’t pronounced correctly. Many languages give the sound of “y” for the letter “J” (and one even gives it the sound of “h”)…..

  • @stephenmccagg
    @stephenmccagg 10 місяців тому

J is typically pronounced as a y sound, but perhaps I'm wrong in this instance.
