- This module describes the challenges in assuming the resilient modulus of asphalt layer in a three layer design of flexible pavements using IRC 37:2017. In the design the asphalt layer is considered for the MR value and in the field the asphalt layer is a combination of two layers namely DBM & BC. Both the layers are designed separately and constructed in the field. Theoretically both the layers should satisfy the designed MR value but due to the change in bitumen content only one can achieve the designed value for a given binder type. The contract specifications or the designer doesn't clarify the MR value consideration in the asphalt layer.
