Found a bone stock '14 2.0t r-spec this last november and scooped it up so fast. So far I've only added an intake, bov, LED lights, oil catch can, and good tires but it still puts a smile on my face every morning and each evening of my commute. It's my first RWD & my first turbo'd car, so far it handles very predictably (grew up on racing sims) and am so glad I went this route rather than the gt86. I plan on doing wheels, exhaust, downpipes, dual diff mount, tune, and suspension over the next couple of years. Eventually I'd like it to go from being my daily driver to weekend track machine. My wallet hurts just thinking about it 😭
That's exactly how my story went with my 14 R Spec except I got mine in 2019. Now it's got a big turbo and I'm tracking it. In the end I'm in like 30k including the car but I did buy high end parts. I'm faster than my coworkers R8 around the track by a few seconds so it's no slouch! Good luck with your build and definitely track it!
@@tommylee4135I'm currently in the market for one and leaning more towards the bk2 2.0t. How much whp and wtq you have? How has the reliability been? I'm planning on it being a autoX maybe 4 or 5 events and 1 to 2 track days a year car.
I still have my stock 2016 Genesis Coupe 3.8 with automatic transmission. I got it in 2017 or 2018. I am going to be at 70,000 miles this coming weekend or next week. I did lots of research on cars in 2020 and 2021, and learned more about what the Genesis Coupe is capable of. From what I gathered, the 3.8 is not worth doing Remnant Performance turbo kit without a built motor. Therefore, in the far future, I plan to get a built 2.0 engine and transmission, or have it all LS3 swapped. Those seem to be the only options. My goal is 500 to 550whp as a daily driver.
@@hollow4109 my bk2 3.8 has been running for over 20k miles boosted just fine with 0 issues, just about 22k miles boosted to be more precise, I’d say it’s lasted pretty long and still pulls and boosts to this day on completely stock original engine
Thank you so much, I was mainly here for the trim level part of the video. There are soo many different options displayed on different websites and its unclear what really changes.
I have a 2010 Genesis Coupe Spec R 2.0t 6 speed manual, the car was highly modified by the previous original owner, I will admit the car can be very difficult to drive with the amount of horsepower it's putting out another issue is finding a mechanic willing to work on it, they keep telling me to take to someone that works on race cars, other than that it is an awesome car that I almost didn't buy, this car has become a very popular car with people of all ages in the small city I live in, not a day goes by that someone isn't pulling up next to me asking questions about the car or just wanting to take pictures of it, if I could share a pic of it on here I would, I recommend buying a Genesis Coupe they are fun cars
If you are taking off from a Stop, & if you have to turn your head to look at oncoming traffic, the turbo is very dangerous if the vehicle in front of you stops suddenly. I wrecked mine like that,,was unable to stop on time.
my 2011 Canadian version 3.8 BK1 base manual came with LSD and non brembo...reminded me of the 70's when you bought a car with the bigger engine without all the extras when I bought the car new. It is still a fun car to drive today if you want to get on it...
If it’s not ur daily than u can have tons of fun on the track and out drifting….if it is ur daily than u have a fun car that looks great still! I don’t think the base model is that bad for these cars most things are going to be changed out and u already have LSD😏
I'm living in Korea now, and ended up buying a 2011 380GT (BK1 w/ a BK2 front end, hood, and headlights) for a steal... you can probably guess why, based on all the replacement parts 😅 But it looks good, rides smooth, has a very well-maintained interior, low km, and is mechanically in great shape. Love that car
Im just curious what trim package is on the 2010 2.0 manual. It comes with upgraded audio, sunroof, powered seats, but no brembo brakes or Lsd so im confused on what I have…

4:08 Quite interesting, because I heard a couple of times, that even with the stock turbo and power figures the engine can easily pop after 90-120k miles, similarly to the Volvo/Ford 2.5L T5. Are you really sure about your statement?! 🤔
Yes we’ve literally have done 100s of genesis coupes with turbo upgrades. Bigger turbos are safer than small oem turbos. We even have a separate video explaining that as well
So I'm Canadian and I have a 2013 3.8 gt what has the lsd and brembo brakes and I haven't seen a track is there different trims for different countries?
I found a 2013 2.0t with 18k miles for cheap, i was lookin for a 3.8 but debating in instead gettin the 2.0t and doin possibly a tune 1 stage at most, or wpuld it be better to wait for a 3.8? Its so hard finding 3.8s in canada thats not having problems
I have a 2013 Genesis coupe 2.0t r spec manual and I just hit 37K miles on it. Got it a year ago but definitely got a lot in mind. If anyone has specific modifications they love on their gennys, send me links!
Question!! I am looking at getting a bk2 3.8 ultimate. I did some deep research and finding that engines blow at some point. In the 75k-120k range. Is that really the case? Because most used gennys are around that range now and days.
Internet only shows negative cases so you will see that often. As long as the previous owner took care of the car, It will have no issues. I would definitely do a timing chain service as soon you buy it though
I have the automatic with 67k miles it's not my daily driver but from the small amount of time that I've had it, the only issues I've had is water entering the trunk from the tail light gaskets and you have to be careful with what oil & coolant is used. Jiffy Lube put the wrong coolant & my engine almost over heated. Since then, I only take it to Firestone for service. Other than that, you have to be careful not to accelerate too hard when making turns otherwise power to the rear wheels shuts off.
Beware it’s somewhat true some people are lucky mines started knocking at 72,000 got it at 21,000 was bk2 3.8 2015 really good car sad cause the samething happened to my friend and he was at 102,678 so now im looking into non GDi 3.8 coupe or non GDi 4.6 heard they were reliable even kept up on everything still went still would love to have one but sense I’m seeing a trend with GDi engines it’s making change my mind 😞
2013 3.8, Ultimate, Automatic, 107,000 miles and still running strong. Its currently my daily driver and I haven't had any mechanical issues with it. Just make sure you stay on top of your maintenance and if your beating on the car more often, change the oil sooner and you'll be good.
If I buy a Genesis coupe, can I do a coyote engine swap? And then maybe a suspension/chassis swap with say, a 67 mustang fastback? And then a body swap too, 67 mustang fastback would look good I think.

@@novachrono2236 yea i bought BTR's gt3076r turbo kit for my 2.0t AT, pushed the injectors the limits with boost making 350-370whp prob and no real big issues, it does hang when shifting under full throttle but that was only after the bigger turbo. I had everything but a bigger turbo, including a dyno tune, and never had any issue from the transmission, i think it made like 285whp on a hot humid day.

Besides the option of the automatic transmission, what does the Track have that you dont get in the R-Spec
Heated seats I think. The 2016 models that got rid of the Track, gave all the nifty stuff to the Ultimate: heated seats, sunroof, etc
@FatalFist so, just heated seats, so slightly more weight??? Doesn't sound like a "Track" trim to me
